Emotions run high as two Odissi dancers leap in unison in an ecstatic dance move on temple grounds in Orissa. As one of the oldest forms of traditional dance in India, Odissi mixes a variety of drama, emotions and moves to enact scenes from mythology and life. It originates from the Indian state of Orissa and remains one of the most beautiful classical dance forms in the country. Traditional Odissi dancers like these are known to practice in the courtyards of temples that are scattered all around the state. As evening approaches in the capital city of Bhubaneswar, it is still common to see young girls and boys make their way into the local cultural center or to temples to learn this beautiful art form and keep tradition alive.
