from the grotesquerie, a kind of decorative art that was widespread in Florence and the rest of Tuscany, between the 15th and 16th centuries. In the stylistic traits of the figures, then, formal artistic similarities have been recognized with minor artists from the Florence and Pistoia areas, like Gerino Gerini, an imitator in the style of Perugino, and Fra Paolino of Pistoia, a pupil of Fra Bartolomeo, and in particular with the latter for a somehow ostentatious Savonarolian devotionality and the revival of compositional models inspired by the great masters of the Florentine Quattrocento (Ghirlandaio, Pollaiuolo, Verrocchio).
