Streetlights retrofitting project saves Cag. de Oro Php7.0 million a year by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental – Cagayan de Oro City is expected save Php7.0 million a year, due to the completion of the Retrofitting of Street Lighting and Light Emitting Diode Traffic Lights (RSL/LEDTL) Project.
This was explained by Director Evelyn N. Reyes of the Department of Energy (DOE), during her recent visit to the city, for an ocular inspection of the project, together with contractor FUMACO Inc. Reyes said the project can also result to an annual energy savings of 900,720 kwh, and a payback period of 2.3 years with Carbon Dioxide emission reduced to about 486 tons per year. With a total funding of Php16 million to cover installation of fixtures and necessary accessories and controls provided by DOE, the project replaced the existing mercury vapor lamps, in 27 barangays of the city, with newly installed lamps which are found to be more energy-savings efficient, Reyes said.
