AUSTRIA

Vienna based Andreas Franke is a passionate diver as well as an award winning commercial photographer. When not shooting for clients, Franke has been creating his one of-a-kind under water art projects for over 5 years, and hopes to continue this work indefinitely. Andreas Franke is a traveler. He travels through the world and between the worlds. His job frequently leads him to several countries on several continents. So does his passion the scuba diving. In his pictures Franke crosses the borderlines between fantasy and real life. “With my photographs of submerged shipwrecks I try to create illusionary worlds far from the typical commercial photography and seduce the observer with new, unreal, foreign worlds. The mystified scenes from the past take place in a fictive space. These are dream worlds that one can get lost in but with which one can also identify. They breed a novel and unexpected atmosphere”. Andreas Franke is in the business for more than twenty years. For Luerzer‘s Archive he is among the “200 Best Photographers”. He worked for great brands like Ben&Jerry's, Coca-Cola, Ford, General Electric, Gillette, Heineken, Nike, Visa or Wrigley‘s. His still lifes and his surreal effects are famous. In his pictures every little detail is planned precisely. There is no space left for fortuity.

The Sinking World With his underwater project “The Sinking World”, Andreas Franke brings strange, sunken, forgotten worlds back to life and presents them in an entirely new context. Shipwrecks are strange places. Their mysterious emptiness haunts the mind of passionate diver and renowned advertising photographer Andreas Franke. In the realm of the mute sleeping giants, places almost surrealistically alive, Franke saw the potential for an entirely unique stage. He took studio photos representing scenes from everyday life or the life style of an era and superimposed them on the absurd, peerless, submarine background formed by the ship and its ambiance. Franke’s work forms strong dichotomies: the soft, mysterious underwater emptiness of resting shipwrecks matched with real scenes from above, full of vitality and exuberance. 05

This creates an entirely new world, bizarre and disturbing, yet irresistible. But the resting giants do not only serve as fascinating and unique settings to Andreas Franke’s stagings. They also make for magnificent venues. An underwater gallery does not only hold divers spellbound. The ocean leaves peculiar and impressive traces on the pictures. The weeks and months under water bequeath Andreas Franke’s works with a special, unique patina, which beautifies them and leaves a strange touch of impermanence. The sea has dressed the pictures in strange suits. Salt, algae and microorganisms from below have gathered to adorn the pictures from the world above: the signature of the ocean. Finally the surfaced, mysterious and oddly ennobled beauties are to be seen on land. And in the meantime everything is once more dark and silent. 06

EGYPT

Amr Elshamy from Cairo, Egypt is a self-taught artist who practices all styles and techniques of art including filmmaking. With spectacular conceptual thinking and technical skills, Amr develops some of the most iconic and impactful visuals around. An artist, illustrator, designer and filmmaker with a love for Photoshop, Amr is passionate about his work and seemingly inspired by absolutely everything. He has an eclectic portfolio encompassing different styles. “I had Photoshop on my first computer. I had no idea what it was or what it was used for. One day, I visited my cousin’s photography studio to pick up some photos and I was waiting in the editing suite. I watched someone change the colour of a subject’s eyes and decided I wanted to have a go! There was no internet in Egypt at the time, so I had to teach myself. One of my biggest artistic influences is van Gogh; his story was really amazing and though he wasn’t technically the most gifted artist, he created something no one else could. I’m inspired by his work ethic and passion”.

How I Turned Rescued Animals and The Magic of Solitude Into Art My photographs exist in that space between dreams and waking. At the age of 32, I am currently working on my art collector’s book in occasion of 10 years anniversary of my career. My passion for nature brought me the idea to make a collection of conceptual photography with wild rescued animals. I admire people who dedicate their time to rescuing stray animals, these are one of the best kind of people! I work 10 years as a freelance photographer and I could meet people who saved wild animals. It was always a magic moment to see their devotion to this issue. I met rescuer who saved young female roe deer who’s mother lost her life to hunting games. She took care of her and gave her shelter among other rescued animals. Few years ago I visited a forester who took two wounded wild foxes into his care. I am grateful I had the opportunity to capture them for one of my photos. Another amazing experience was a case of young deer who was rescued during summer harvest. Many of these creatures are hiding in corn fields, which is dangerous and fatal for many of them. Most stories have happy ending and some of these animals were able to return to wild nature when they got stronger. 19

Wait A Little Longer © Martin Stranka

Solitude is my often topic in my work as well. My photography project called “I Found The Silence” is like a diary during my last 8 years. When I am alone I may fear that I will somehow live a life of loneliness or I may discover some truths about myself that can be scary or hurtful. Being alone is not bad. In fact, it is a time to meditate, discover yourself. It is time for inner peace. In this world of chaos and distractions, we have gotten into a habit of not stopping, being busy and surrounding ourselves with things that are loud, disturbing and continuous. Being alone in the silence is actually one of the healthiest moments you can have with yourself. The series “I Found The Silence” shows us in different moments of our inner peace and discovering yourself. 20

UNITED KINGDOM

I’m a conceptual photographer from the UK. I started experimenting with compositing in Photoshop 4 years ago after becoming frustrated at how difficult it was to create truely original images in London; where myself and 10 million other people with access to some kind of camera live. As soon as I saw my first photoshop tutorial it opened up a whole new world of possibilities, and ever since I’ve aimed to create original work that makes people smile.

POLAND

Jelenia Gora is a petite and picturesque town in Poland, surrounded by wild and scenic mountains. It is also Sebastian Łuczywo’s home, where he has lived his whole life. He studied economics, has 17 years of working in a corporation and he has been taking photographs for years. Over time this hobby has turned into a passion to which he has dedicated himself completely. 2011 was a breakthrough year when Sebastian started truly expressing himself through his photography, and his work immediately gained appreciation, as he developed his own unique style. With the encouragement of his friends, in the same year he sent through a number of his works to the world-recognised Sony Awards. He received two prestigious accolades. This turned into a confirmation of an idea that had been trying to break through to the forefront of his consciousness – that realizing his artistic visions and not work in the corporate world, is his true calling. Between 2012 and 2013 while he was on his family holidays in rural Poland he created possibly his most important and unique project – to date – entitled ‘Rural Series’. Sebastian is an incredibly versatile photographer who creates in black and white as well as color, and shoots landscape and portraits. Despite the diversity there is a perceptible uniqueness to Sebastian’s photographs – they carry a message, a story.

POLAND

Jarosław Wasek hails from Poland and is a digital artist specialising in photo manipulation. He creates amazing surreal landscapes with little characters from his imagination and manages to blend the real with the digitally altered in such a way as to make the two barely distinguishable from one another. The atmospheres created are very impressive, with a recurrent feeling of isolation. His art works bewitch and you, amazed by their greatness, loose the ability to think rational. This is world you should definetely visit.

ITALY

Carmine is a self-taught photographer based in Rome, where his passion for photography started in 2014. His work is a depiction of reality as he perceives it. Constantly wondering not only about what he sees but especially about which image lies deeper, he tends to engage himself with the picture before looking for friction, distortion and movement. Carmine uses Photography as a means to portray his own reality.

INDIA

Anil Saxena … well, let's say he's different. He started out doing conventional darkroom photo composition and retouching before moving these skills over to creator and then photoshop. Having moved to Mumbai to work as an illustrator he became interested in retouching as a way to utilize his eye for creating striking imagery. Drawing from his technical background in graphic design, CGI and his trained creative eye, Anil enjoys developing stunning imagery. He believes color grading is paramount. For him real work begins, when we lesser mortals might think that the image is just perfect! In his own words "If the image is a success but my work goes unnoticed, I'm doing my job well."

ITALY

I live in L'Aquila, a small town in Abruzzo (Italy). I started taking pictures one year ago and gradually I began to build my way of seeing the world. Photography is the way I express myself, the way I see the world and the way I live. I do every kind of photography, it doesn't matter if it's a portrait, still life, landscape or conceptual, I think the most important thing about every picture is the emotion it gives. “LOST” is my first series. This is an introspection and it represents a mental journey, the emotions that the loneliness and the emptiness give. My ambition is to tell my life and communicate the way I see through this beautiful world of art.
