Walpole St Andrew & Walpole St Peter Walpole is a civil parish in the county of Norfolk covering an area of 19.27 km2 (7.44 sq mi), including the villages of Walpole St. Peter and Walpole St. Andrew. Having a population of 1,707 in 654 households as of the 2001 census and falling within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council. Walpole St Peter & Walpole St Andrew are rural villages and situated between Wisbech, Kings Lynn & Sutton Bridge and are popular with commuters wanting the rural village life but good access to the A17 & A47 roads. The Norfolk Green bus service number 63 goes from Kings Lynn to Wisbech via the Walpoles approx every 2 hours Monday to Saturdays. Walpole St Peter has a Primary School and in 2011 had approx 156 pupils. There is a small convenience store called Lion Services. A particular feature is St Peter's Church, the Grade 1 listed parish church located in Walpole St Peter. Known as "the Cathedral of the Fens", the largely Perpendicular building is often regarded as one of England's finest parish churches. Due to its proximity to St Peter's, St Andrew's Church was declared redundant and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. St Peter's was used as the parish church of the fictional village of Fenchurch St Paul in the celebrated 1970s production of Dorothy L Sayer's novel The Nine Tailors, starring Ian Carmichael as Lord Peter Wimsey. West Walton The village and parish of West Walton is located in the western part of the county of Norfolk. The western flank of the parish is also the county border between Norfolk and Cambridgeshire and is also the course of the River Nene. On the southern flank is the parish of Walsoken. To the north is Walpole and to the east is Marshland St James. The name West Walton is thought to derive from the Old English meaning of the settlement by the wall which refers to the village's proximity to a Roman sea wall or defence. The parish of West Walton, in the 2001 census, has a population of 1659. Saint Mary's dates from the 13th century built about 1240 and is unusual in that the church's Campanile, or Bell tower is detached some 60 feet from the main building of the church. The tower is supported at its base by four open arches. At each corner stands a buttress which climb to the pinnacles with gabled niches in the first, second and third storey. The tower is topped with delicately carved parapet walls. The west doorway to the church is flanked on either side by massive buttresses, a result of remedial works carried out here after the foundations failed not long after the church was built. The south porch is arched with arcaded buttress on each side. The nave is arcaded with six bays on each side. The arches are supported on pillars which are encircled by detached shafts crowned with capitals of stone carved foliage. The hammer beamed roof dates from the 15th century and is supported by 24 carved angels holding shields. The bell tower, and the church itself, have been separately designated by English Heritage as Grade I listed buildings. The bell tower is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The Norfolk Green bus number 46 passes through from Kings Lynn to Wisbech.

Legal Advice: Divorce & Separation Get advice – know your rights. By Jo Wheatley-Johnson, Fosters Law If you are seriously considering getting a divorce, it is important to consult with a specialist family solicitor as early as possible. This does not mean that any divorce is certain, it is just better to understand your legal position from the outset. The solicitor’s advice will cover such considerations as rights over family assets, including personal possessions and property, arrangements for the children and the financial implications for you and your family. Their involvement, and the administration of the divorce process itself, will be largely determined you and your partner’s ability to reach agreement on these matters. If you find difficulty in agreeing on these or other matters, mediation can save you time and money. A mediator is an independent person who will work with both of you to reach an agreement. They won’t take sides and will keep your discussions confidential. Once you know your rights, you need to understand the divorce procedure. When getting divorced, you need to prove to the Court the reason or reasons why you want the marriage to end. There is strictly only one ground for divorce, which is that the marriage has irretrievably broken down, this must be based on one of five facts: 1. separation for two years with the other party consenting to the divorce; 2. separation over five years where consent is not required; 3. adultery by the other party; 4. unreasonable behaviour; 5. desertion. These must be proved by the person seeking the divorce. It will speed things up if your spouse agrees with the reasons that you want to use. With the facts established, you or your spouse will need to make a formal divorce application to court, this is called the ‘divorce petition’. Once the other party (the one that didn’t initially file) has informed the court that they agree to the divorce, you can apply for a ‘decree nisi’, this is a document that says the court sees no reason why you can’t divorce. Having obtained this, you look to get a ‘decree absolute’. The ‘decree absolute’ is the document that legally ends your marriage. Once you have it, you are officially divorced. If you started the divorce, you can apply for a ‘decree absolute’ six weeks after the court issues the decree nisi. If your spouse started the divorce, you can apply for a ‘decree absolute’ after an additional three months. It is not possible to petition for divorce during the first year of marriage. This does not, however, prevent you applying for an annulment or judicial separation action. The Court fees are currently £300 for the issue of the Petition and £40 to apply for the Decree Absolute. There is a small fee to swear an affidavit during the proceedings, this will usually be £7 (or possibly a little more if there are more exhibits attached to the affidavit). The fee is payable by you if you ask another solicitor to swear the affidavit – the rule bring that a firm other than that which is acting for you must swear the documents. Alternatively it is free to swear the affidavit at the court through which the divorce proceedings have been issued. Legal Advice: Lasting powers of Attorney – don’t wait! By Nicola Firth, Ward Gethin Solicitors
It has been said that everyone over 18 should make a Lasting Power of Attorney, or at the very least, give it some thought. As a solicitor, I frequently get calls from elderly couples where, sadly, one has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimers and their Doctor has recommended making Lasting Powers of Attorney. Often this is the first time they have heard of them. This article may be the first time you have. However, please do not make the mistake of believing that Lasting Powers are only for the elderly. So what is it? A Lasting Power of Attorney (or LPA) is the legal document by which you can choose whom you would trust to deal with your financial affairs and property on your behalf should you ever become unable to due to physical or mental incapacity. An LPA must be signed while you still have the ability to fully understand it, so it’s never too early to consider making one. People of all ages have accidents that result in coma or suffer from strokes. Generally, banks, insurance companies and utility providers will not talk to anyone other than the person named on the account. An LPA enables your Attorneys to cut though the Data Protection Wall and sort your financial affairs out for you. Many people believe that their Will is enough. However, it is no longer unusual for someone to lose mental capacity and live on for many years. Wills do not come into effect until you have died. Executors appointed under your will have no power to assist you whilst you are still living. Attorneys appointed under an LPA, however, can do just that. An LPA is a powerful document which should not be executed lightly but with serious consideration. For more information you can contact the Office of the Public Guardian. Rightmove are to bring home-hunting onto the nation’s television screens with the launch of a new TV app. The Rightmove TV app allows users to search all properties listed on the Rightmove site, including maps, floorplans and property details, through an internet-enabled television. The app has been initially designed for Samsung television sets with further versions for additional manufacturers expected over the next 12 months. Rightmove director Miles Shipside comments: “The TV app is an ideal addition to Rightmove’s range of home-hunting platforms, and as the UK’s number one TV brand Samsung were the ideal partner for us in developing this exciting new property search tool. Consumers want to carry out their property search on the electronic devices that are most convenient and effective for them. As the largest and most communal screen in the house the TV app will be a great enhancement to the Rightmove home-hunting experience.” The TV app will link with a user’s My Rightmove account so that properties and searches can be fully synchronised between Rightmove’s desktop, mobile and TV platforms. Convergence across these platforms means home-hunters will be able to save the properties they prefer while searching on a desktop or mobile device, and show them to family and friends when they get home on their TV screen. Shipside adds: “Rightmove have always taken the lead in bringing home-hunting to new platforms, such as our award-winning mobile devices, and we are confident that internet-enabled TV will grow to play a key role in the property search process. This latest home-hunting investment will be of huge benefit to Rightmove member agents by extending the reach of their properties even further. The larger viewing screen that a television provides means that agents can make the most of visually presenting properties on behalf of their vendors and landlords. Quality property presentation will be more important than ever.” The Rightmove TV app is free to download now on all 2011 model Samsung SMART TV’s and smart Blu-Ray Players. It will be pre-installed on all Samsung Smart TV’s and Blu Ray Players purchased from the 20 December 2011 onward.
