1923 use of KGV 1d violet BW #76 and 3rd wmk Kangaroo 3d olive Die I tied poorly struck Melbourne slogan for 1924 Empire Exhibition and paying 4d foreign rate on envelope to Bratislavska, Slovakia. Attractive bi-coloured franking. 1930 cover (stamp washed off) to London with boxed ‘DAMAGED BY FIRE/ON/S.S. COMORIN’ in purple on large OHMS label on back. (On 12th March, whilst in Colombo, a fire in No.3 hold was extinguished by flooding the hold with seawater. On arrival at Tilbury docks in April various cachets and labels were applied when processing the surviving mail.). - 1½d red KGV cover to London with boxed ‘DAMAGED BY FIRE/ON/S.S. COMORIN.’ in black on front. Very nice example. 1930s 2d Red KGV accumulation of covers/postcards emanating from NSW PO’s, wide range cds and slogan cancels, unchecked for varieties, noted advert covers, appear mostly solo frankings on standard-sized covers, some mixed condition, would seem largely average commercial quality. Unusually large quantity. (c.750) 1930s Group [1] 1938 (Jul 27) 1/4d KGV (cat $250 on cover) & 2d red KGV on air cover from Sydney to England. The rate was reduced to 5d 6 days later; [2] three covers with 1d green KGV varieties sloping crown top & Y. x2. (4) 1930s-50s Accumulation appear largely commercial, good range of stamp issues noted, mixed condition. (c.600) 1931 (Apr 2) Switzerland: International Labour Office use of Bulletin d’Expédition form to Melbourne bearing remarkable franking of ovpt 90c pair, 10f, 5f (blemishes from slight overlapping) and 3f, tied by Geneve cds. Probably unique franking to Australia. 1931-36 Range of Covers including 1931 K.Smith 3d pair on registered cover to Dutch East Indies, 1935 cover to France incl 9d Macarthur, various to GB incl S.A. Centenary 1/-, 1931 cover Roos 6d, 9d, etc, with ‘TOO LATE’ handstamp, 1935 Jubilee set on registered cover to USA, 1935 cover to USA with ‘POSTED SHIPSIDE/SYDNEY’ cds. Mixed condition. (12) 1935 (Jan 30) with KGV 2d scarlet CofA wmk tied Melbourne slogan ‘PREVENT BUSH FIRES’ addressed to crew member of Matson Line SS Monterey in Honolulu, redirected to the SS Lurline and ultimately returned to sender. Very colourful with plethora of postal and other markings including 2x ‘NOT WITH COMPANY’ in blue (one for each ship?), large violet ‘REBUT’, violet ‘NON RECLAME (UNCLAIMED)’ on back, 2x ‘Returned From Consignee’ (front and back), Sydney DLO in red, Melbourne DLO in black tying returned label. 1940 1d Australian Air League scarce usage of this unofficial envelope postmarked on the back with ‘CLERMONT/ 1?MR40/QLD’ cds. Small peripheral faults. 1940s & 50s ex dealer first day, commemorative with exhibitions, WWII censored, flight and other covers in mixed fair to fine condition with range of KGVI and QEII £sd frankings. Includes 14 illustrated 1950 ANPEX envelopes (2 design types, many colours) with either pair block or strip of Stamp Anniv pair BW #278-9 special show cancel. Good variety overall and originally priced to sell for c$500 - good value at estimate. (c45) 1940s Censored Cover Range with Army, Navy and R.A.A.F. markings including several to or from New Guinea, noted cover to ‘H.M.A.S. Basilisk’ (land base in Port Moresby), also 1942-43 covers (2) to ‘H.M.A.S. Shropshire’. Interesting lot. (24) 1940s Censored Covers to Overseas destinations including ‘Bermuda’, ‘Canada’, ‘GB’, ‘India’, ‘Ireland’, ‘New Zealand’, etc, range of Censor markings and tapes, few advertising and airmail covers noted. Generally fine. (42) 1940s-60s Pre-Decimal Accumulation commercial covers accumulation, includes large number of multiple rate 1960s items addressed to Mobil Oil, some unusual rates with useful frankings such as Zoologicals, Flowers, Birds, three with coil strips of QEII 3d, scarcer solos, etc, some mixed condition, generally good commercial quality. (460+) 1941 (May 29) use of KGVI 1938 1½d red-brown ASC #P36, slogan ‘BUY/WAR SAVINGS/CERTIFICATES’ cancel; on the back the scarce illustrated label in blue and red for ‘GUIDE WAR APPEAL/FOR/EVACUATED CHILDREN/AND/MEN OF HIS MAJESTY’S MINE SWEEPERS’ with the same slogan cancel alongside hand-stamped note acknowledging a contribution. 1943 (Sep 15) Censored Commercial Cover from 7th Day Adventists Conference in Sydney to Pitcairn Island, with bold arrival cds on the front. Roughly opened at base. Scarce wartime destination. 1946 (Nov 6) envelope with hand-stamped cachet and return address of The Van Diemen Cover Club (of RK Dalwood) registered to HD Rohrs of Oregon, USA franked 2/9½d by Mitchell 2½d, and 2x 3½d & 1/-. The registration label poorly affixed otherwise fine. [For another RK Dalwood cover see Lot 1729.] 1947 (July 10) illustrated envelope with special cachet of The Van Diemen Cover Stamp Club and return address of RK Dalwood, 89 Macquarie St., Hobart, Tasmania, addressed to HD Rohrs of Oregon, USA franked KGVI 3½d Blue. [For another RK Dalwood cover see Lot 1728.] 1953-67 Range of Rotary Covers from clubs in Australia (6) plus selection to Rotary in USA (7), frankings include Coronation 7½d, 2/-, Tas Sesqui 2/- (2), Cobb 2/-, 1956 Olympic 2/- (2), also noted Tiger Cat 1/2d on up rated postal stationery item. Generally fine. (13) 1958 Officially Registered cover from Padstow to Sydney, only 4d paid but contained coins and therefore compulsorily registered, also overweight so total deficiency 1/5½d and postage due of 2/11d paid with 2/-, 7d & 4d Postage Dues. Officially opened & sealed label plus all sides officially repaired. Rare. 1960s-2000s Accumulation Of Australia Post envelopes, some registered, etc, noted range ‘MESSENGER DELIVERY’ envelopes, ‘DLO’ postmarks, various pictorial or commem postmarks, slogans, cds’s, etc, also range of AP advertising material. (100s) 1960s-2000s Covers decimal era accumulation of single franked mostly smaller size envelopes to domestic destinations. Range of rates including registered, odd undeliverable and returned, booklet and coil stamps, postmark types including pictorials. Majority commercial use, variable condition. (c380) - decimal accumulation of single franked envelopes (various sizes but majority smaller types) and postcards to overseas destinations. Range of rates and postmark types including some taxed, odd undeliverable and returned, uprated 9c aerogramme. Frankings include AAT, destinations majority GB but also USA, France, Germany, Switzerland, India, etc. Majority social use but some commercial noting one to Germany with handstamp ‘JOINT DEFENCE SPACE RESEARCH FACILITY’.
