DONKEY PROJECT DONKEY 4.0
DEVELOPMENT A small storage in the style of Isokon’s Donkeys. Made from plywood and laminated aeroply painted in matt grey and varnished in clear matt wax. The pale grey colour makes it suitable for both genders and all ages, making it the only Donkey the customer will ever need to buy.
DETAIL All the shelves are offset from the edges to create a more refined look. The lamination is at 50mm radii to create a smooth curve.
CLOSE UP All the corners in the Donkey are curved making it child friendly but sophisticated. The handles are at different heights for ergonomic use.
LIVE BRIEF: UMBRA and JOHN LEWIS PROJECT Working in groups of two for a live project with Umbra to sell in John Lewis’ shops in which I am currently short-listed for a design to be produced and sold.
RESEARCH LED PROJECT In a two part project, firstly researching into an environmental cause to then go onto producing a 100% recycled birds nest for endangered birds in the UK.
POSTER This poster was made to raise awareness of the effect we as a society are having on the environment. UK bird species that have diminished due to agricultural farming became a priority in this project.
DEVELOPMENT Sketches to show a variety of ways that dog rose plants can be held and grow around the nest. Provide coverage and producing flowers attracting food for the birds. Different features have been concidered that would benefit the birds ergonomically, such as a perch and the texture of the nest.
DETAIL Four feet made from repurposed cardboard will be buried underground and decompose, allowing for the rose roots to take place. The nest is made from PVC brown up-cycled rods, weaved around the metal structural skeleton. Parasites will die in the plastic so no need to clean it out every year.
UP-CYCLING PROJECT After experimenting with waste materials I created a jean shag rag rug textured seat on an up-cycled piece of furniture.
DEVELOPMENT Designed for FLEXA, a company that doesn’t up-cycle already. I chose FLEXA as this product fits well with the Scandinavian children’s furniture that they already produce.
DETAIL Within the shag rag rug, qualities of the original product such as the seams, buttons, and zips can be found.
CLOSE UP To produce this unique piece of furniture I acquired Hessian and threaded through strips of the jean material. Folding it in on itself on the end allowed a secure finish to the cover so that it wouldn’t fray.
DEW DROP PENDANTS Hand made ceramic pendants glazed in an unique dewdrop glaze of all different colours either on a white of black slipped earthenware clay. Every one of the pieces is unique in shape and colour. Sold through online websites and through a small pottery I volunteer at.
ART FOUNDATION FINAL MAJOR PROJECT
DETAIL This public furniture is designed to improve the well-being of others. By having a pair of perpendicular seats that are joined this allows the users to feel connected without touching and allows them to have their own gaze whilst talking. The green roofing allows a coverage for privacy and to feel more connect to the world through nature. Made from balsa wood, re-purposed carpet from insulating and a metal frame to hold the trailing purple flowered plants.
