Introduced in 2008, reference 5139 is the successor to the previous reference 5039, from which it diferentiates mostly for the larger 38mm diameter compared to the 35mm of the previous model. The model is a quintessential example of Patek Philippe style, employing the 3-counter dial layout for the display of calendar informations which frst appeared in reference 3940. It manages to efectively convey the complex amount of information in an intricate but at the same time uncluttered way, a true achievement of dial design. The reference follows an evolution: the frst series was released with silvered dial and with only a sapphire case back. The subsequent evolution launched in 2011 and available until 2017 - featured a black dial and two case backs.
