New Start, New Beginnings, New Seasons, New Opportunities, New Day, New Experiences, New Life. It never stops, we all live in a permanent state of change – change is here to stay! Here at New Life we are always looking for new ways to connect with our community, to invite people to our church, to help people find and follow Jesus. How we communicate this historic, yet relevant Christian faith needs to change with each generation. Communication is such an important part of what we do as a church and we are keen to represent New Life well in both the way we communicate and how we communicate. So, we have decided to replace our weekly photocopied newsletter and instead create this short magazine 3 or 4 times a year to provide a snapshot of who New Life Church is and what we do. The desire is that in each issue of the magazine there will be stories told that will bring to life our faith and our mission as the people that make up New Life Church. Lastly, all communication is only successful if it works two ways – please do let us know what you think!
Sim and Lottie Dendy p.s. If you are a ‘Partner’ of New Life Church then you will receive a monthly email providing more up to date details of the various activities of the church.
We love our children and want to provide the best possible activities for them to enjoy week in, week out at our Sunday meetings. Whether your child is a newborn baby or in their last year at Junior School we have a group designed especially for them.
In recent months the children’s work at New Life Church has gone through a number of changes under the direction of Lottie Dendy.
To complement the excellent weekly program on offer, Lottie and team have also created a special event 3 or 4 times a year where all the different age groups join together from 10.30am. During these events wonderful activities such as crafts, bouncy castles, puppets, dance and music are all likely to make an appearance as a unique experience is prepared for our children to invite their friends to.
We have a fantastic team of volunteers who can’t wait to serve the large number of children that join us each week. Dressed in their red t-shirts they are easy to find and always willing to help. Each week they prepare a funpacked programme of activity and learning to ensure your child has the very best experience.
The next “FunDay SunDay” event is going to be on Sunday 29th June 2014. Book the date!
New Life Church hosts a variety of men’s events, including bi-monthly Men’s Breakfasts and Men Only events, as well as weekends away and more. These give opportunity for men to explore their faith, form friendships and connect with the community. The Men’s Breakfast takes place on a Saturday morning, every other month at the Old House at Home pub in the centre of Romsey and is open to all friends and family. A great opportunity to catch up and enjoy a full English breakfast (cost of £7pp). Our Men Only events are free and open to all 16+. We have had some really inspirational speakers, from fire fighters to footballers. All sharing how the Christian faith has changed their lives. Great evenings and not to be missed! Please contact Trevor Clewer, Dave Ritchie or Tim Parker for more details.
summer sundays Church changes slightly during the summer as many of us are out and about on holiday or visiting friends and relatives.
For those of us staying in Romsey, we will be holding exciting and creative all age meetings led by different people each week. There won’t be any separate children’s work (our team get a well-earned break!) but don’t worry, our younger members will be involved throughout the meetings with lots to keep them interested! Always fun when the puppets are around…Refreshments will be served after the meeting throughout August so you can still catch up with friends, or even make some new ones!
On the 10th August we are holding a BBQ at the Cypress area, Royal Victoria Country Park (SO31 5GA) from 12 noon, instead of our usual morning meeting at Romsey School. We will be arranging things a bit differently this year – no more hanging around the BBQ to see if you get your premium burger back. Just bring a bowl to share, some drinks and the burgers and sausages will be provided by us. Can’t wait!
24th August there will be no morning meeting but we will be going for a walk together. Bring your friends, families and dogs and we will meet at Beachern Wood car park (SO42 7QD) at 10.30am. Simon Hunter is organising the walk so speak to him if you need more details. 6
Woodley Fun Day began in 2008 under the banner of Hope ’08, whose aim was to show Jesus’ love in the local community. Originally aimed at youth, it has grown into an amazing family focused day. This year it takes place on Saturday 7th June, 2-5pm with bouncy castles, climbing wall, face painting, free BBQ, games, tug of war and more… We need your help to make this another really special time for the local community. If you want to get involved let Dave Knight know or just bring your family and friends for a fun day for all.
We provide youth services for those in year 7 right up to year 13.
Our fantastic youth Connect Group meets on a Thursday evening, 7.30 – 9pm. This alternates between Tim and Ruth Pitman's house and Tom and Ellie Fairbank's house and involves fun, food and frenzy – aka games, chilling out and chatting about life and Bible stuff! Throughout the summer there be plenty of socials to enjoy the good weather by way of barbecues, beach and forest trips, outdoor cinema and, of course, the annual time away at Soul Survivor...
Soul Survivor is known for putting on one of the biggest Christian events each summer. They seek to equip young people to worship God and follow Jesus with their whole lives. The summer conference is held over five days with big main meetings that involve times of worshipping God, learning from the bible and space is given for us to pray for each other. But that's not all, there are loads of extra seminars every day, cafes to hang out in, gigs to listen to, venues to dance away in and all sorts of other stuff too, from football tournaments to creative workshops. Everyone camps and there's a real festival type vibe to the events! Our Youth Leaders, Tim and Ruth Pitman are organising a group to attend week B, 12th 16th August. Only £110pp for an amazing experience you won’t forget! Please email our administrator firstname.lastname@example.org to book your place (before the end of July!). Check out the website www.soulsurvivor.com/summer for full event details. Loads of stuff to read on there and if you are a parent/guardian then there is a section especially for you as well!
BUS PROJECT The youth workers also work within our local community on a weekly basis providing a bus for the young people to hang out and chat in the warm, and a one to one mentoring service.
For further information see Tim and Ruth Pitman 8
We call our midweek groups Connect Groups as a reminder of the opportunity they present to:
connect to God connect to one another and connect to the community
You are welcome at Connect Groups Dierent groups meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and one meets in the daytime. Venues vary, giving a chance to meet in each other's homes and share hospitality. There is a wide variety of content to the Connect Group meetings, maybe looking at the subject that was taught on Sunday, or other subjects, carrying out a care project, or just meeting socially. These activities present a great opportunity to make friends and grow in faith. New people are always welcome at any of the Connect Groups and as the church continues to grow new groups are being formed. This also presents opportunities for those who want to grow in leadership to have a valuable place to serve. If you would like to join a group you are most welcome. Please contact the Connect Group Coordinator, Trevor Clewer on email@example.com
making a difference New Life Church has a history of traveling to various nations seeking to make a difference in any way that it can whether that is providing education for children on the dumpsites of the Phillipines or setting up a Bible School for church pastors in Nepal.
One of the projects that we are closely associated with is the work of ServeDirect in Uganda. ServeDirect have helped build a secondary school called Wobulenzi Town Academy that houses 600 pupils as well as a Health Centre, Library and Resource Centre for primary aged children. This November we are planning to send a team of people from the church to help serve Wobulenzi Town Academy. The team will provide 2 weeks of activities for the secondary school including Bible teaching, worship, games, crafts and music.
If you are interested and would like more information about the trip or to discover how you can join the team please speak to Nick Allen who chairs the ServeDirect charity or email the church office.
