PRESS RELEASE STATEMENT For AW12, BOY Couture has collaborated with up-and-coming accessories designer Nasir Mazhar. Located in London, he draws influence from fetish, mythology and religion, all of which are given a street culture twist. With a background in theatrical hat-making, Mazhar challenges the conventions of ‘wearing’ as we know it. Inspired London’s ever prevalent subculture, Mazhar designs for a new tribe of men and women- the sea-punks, pastel Goths and space grunge enthusiasts. With technology and globalization enabling a new wave of youth culture, Mazhar also looks to new centres for alternative music inspiration such as Montreal. Claire Boucher of critically acclaimed Canadian act ‘Grimes’, inspires a new generation of experimental music and is a fashion muse for the collection. The exclusive range of made-to-order backpacks takes alternative accessories to a new realm. Traditional 90’s backpack shapes are fused with controversial, yet importantly functional, elements such as bondage for the cutting edge fashion design. Intended for everyday use, the bag is also practical and stylish. BOY’s branding remains central to the bags’ design, with the iconic eagle design embossed into the luxurious leather base. High quality silver nickel trims, including rings and studs, link back to the brand’s punk roots whilst remaining current and covetable. The fabric body of the bag comes in a variety of textures and designs, including black or white mesh, studded, leather or plain. This addition to the BOY Couture range, first established in February 2012 in collaboration with DJ Munroe Bergdorf, is a natural progression for the brand which has seen demand for over 40 years. The backpacks complete the brand offering in a way which is fashionable and edgy yet importantly, attainable. BOY Couture affirms the brands status, bringing a new, high-fashion edge to the modern punk scene.
