Palestinian Cabinet Meeting Statement (22) Cabinet condemns Israeli raids on Gaza, continued settler aggression against our people Cabinet demands Israeli government ends continued violations against prisoners During its weekly meeting in Ramallah, chaired by Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, the Cabinet condemned the continued Israeli attacks against our people and their property in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip, including the assassination of five citizens and injury of others in various air strikes in the Gaza Strip in addition to firing at at citizens collecting their olive harvest in the northern Gaza Strip this morning. The Cabinet also warned from the implementation of the decision by the Israeli Defense Minister to hand over the Rajabi family home in Hebron City to settlers, which would create a new settlement outpost in the heart of Hebron. Moreover, the Cabinet condemned the organized settler terrorism committed against our people under the protection of the occupation military, which recently escalated in an unprecedented manner especially during the olive harvest season, noting that settlers destroyed and burned more than 800 olive trees since mid-September and 7,000 trees since the beginning of 2012. In this context, the Cabinet denounced the continued international silence towards the on-going settler crimes against our people and stressed the need for immediate and decisive intervention to end those Israeli attacks, which constitute a blatant violation of international law, create tension on the ground and undermine chances for peace and stability in the region In addition, the Cabinet also demanded an end to all attacks and violations against prisoners in occupation jails, which include beating, abuse and continuing raids of prison cells under false pretexts. The Cabinet also demanded an end to the policy of willful medical negligence towards ill prisoners, stressing the need for international intervention on this issue to end the Israeli violations against prisoners and compel Israel to abide by its legal obligations as an occupying power. Equally, the Cabinet called on the international community to intervene immediately to save the lives and work to release of prisoners Ayman Al-Sharawneh and Samer Al-Issawi, who have been on a prolonged hunger strike and who's health conditions have gravely deteriorated. The Cabinet also called for the immediate release of prisoner Samer Al-Barq, who renewed his hunger strike on Monday. Finally in this regard, the Cabinet affirmed that it holds the Israeli government fully responsible for the lives of these prisoners, and called for the release of all prisoners, particularly the ill, long-term prisoners and Legislative Council Members. The Cabinet welcomed the USD 13.6 million agreement signed between the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Planning Ministry and Government of Sweden to support the social development program in “Area C” and East Jerusalem, indicating that this step is part of the government's action program aimed at increasing international awareness and Tel.: +970 2 295 4064 Fax: +970 2 295 4035 Ramallah, Palestine info@pgmc.ps www.palestinecabinet.gov.ps
