to do list tick off your list... Your top ten must-see list  1. ANGKOR ARCHAEOLOGiCAL PARK The number one reason why you’re here,

we’re guessing. Dozens of intricately carved and constructed temples are scattered over 400 square kilometres, giving you a unique glimpse into the life of an extraordinary empire. Entrance is $37 per day, $62 for a three-day pass, and $72 for seven days. Map on other side

 2. TONLE SAP Thanks to its extraordinary ‘flood pulse’, the Tonle Sap lake is home to one of the most diverse and rich inland water ecosystems in Asia, including large numbers of critically endangered bird species. Check out the floating communities of fishers living on the lake for a fascinating insight into another challenging way of life.

3. OLD MARKET AREA Plenty of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants and, of course, 

the Old Market itself make this area ripe for retail exploration. Take your time, haggle a little (enjoy the gentle banter), before finally sitting down with an ice-cold beverage to check over your souvenir purchases. Map ref’ D4

4. SENTEURS D'ANGKOR Come visit the workshop to be enriched by the flavours 

and fragrances of Cambodia. Admire the know-how of local craftsmen and discover the production of natural cosmetics, the treatment of spices, and the art of roasting coffee beans from Rattanakiri. Map ref’ D4

5. PHARE THE CAMBODIAN CiRCUS Don't miss this professional Cambodian theatrical circus show, which mixes both traditional and modern culture. It's fun and emotional, and on every night from 8pm. 6. KHMER CERAMiCS CENTRE Visit this fine arts centre to watch trainees, master 

potters and stone carvers at work. You can even attend a pottery or a stone-carving class, and make your own piece under supervision of Khmer artisans. They will deliver your finished artwork to your hotel or guesthouse within 24 hours. Map ref’ E6

7. MUSEUMS Discover more of Cambodia’s ancient and modern history at the Landmine Museum ($3), or the huge Angkor National Museum ($12), which has eight galleries leading you through the spiritual, cultural, social and architectural aspects of the Khmer Empire. Pay an additional $3 for an audio guide. Map ref’ F6 8. NiGHT MARKETS There is now an abundance of night markets to choose from 

in Siem Reap. The original Angkor Night Market was a pioneer of nocturnal commerce in Cambodia, and has a friendly atmosphere and attractive layout. Map ref’ B1

9. GET SOME WHEELS Whether you fancy tours by bicycle, electric bike, scooter, 

dirt bike, quad, or pretty much anything on wheels we can think of – all are possible in Siem Reap at really great prices. They offer a fantastic way of getting out to see the stunning countryside. Perhaps not by rollerskates, though.

10. ANGKOR SiLK FARM Enjoy the beautiful rural setting while learning about the traditional process of silk-making. Free guided tours will allow you to get more information about mulberry tree cultivation, silkworm farming, cocoon unwinding, preparation of silk threads, ikat technique (tie-dyeing of threads) and silk weaving. For more ideas on what to see and do, check out the leisure section in our POCKET GUiDE. Or you can go to the nearest travel agent or ask at your hotel for some recommendations.

TRANSPORT: A tuk-tuk will cost arou nd $15-20 a day to cover all of the main temples, and your driver can also act as a tour guide – this is a good option for a group of 3-4 people. A taxi will cost a little mor e ($20-25 a day) but you might appreciate the air-con duri ng the hotter periods of the day, and the shelter during sudd en, violent downpours. If you’re alone, consider hiring a moto and driver, though you will have much less protectio n from the elements. If you’re feeling energetic, hire a bicycle from just $1 a day – drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks.

Make sure to keep hydrated during your visit to the temples, even on cloudy days and especially if you are not used to the tropical sun. It’s a good idea to always carry a bottle of water with you, and there are several refreshment stands located around the temple complex selling water, sodas, fruit juices, and snacks.
