Š Gwen Wagner-Adair, 2017

Everyone can knit - and enjoy it! Knitting can be really relaxing and there’s always more to learn and try. My workshops are fun and friendly - a great way to meet new people while trying out something new or perfecting a skill. I have been teaching workshops freelance in the North East of England for the past 8 years, with regular bookings at Baa Ram Ewe, Wool N Stuff, The Yarn Barn and several knitting guilds. I am a qualified teacher and bring this experience to bear when designing workshops and notes. For all workshops, I provide descriptions and photos to assist you in advertising, both in print and on the web. Got an Idea? I’m always developing new workshops so happy to create something bespoke for your shop. Contact me: Gwen Wagner-Adair; 07803841608

Skill-Building Workshops

These workshops are all good follow-on workshops from the ‘Learn to...’ ones. Only skills required: casting on/off, knit and purl. The * shows which ones are particularly good following Learn to Knit. Learn to Knit Lace* - 6 hr Make a lace scarf with a beaded picot edge, whilst learning the basics of lace knitting - yarn overs, different decreases, chart reading, and blocking too.

It’s really hard to define workshops as intermediate or advanced, as knitters all learn different skills at different points in their journey. For these workshops, knitters should all be confident with the basics of knit, purl, casting on and some pattern reading. It is helpful if they’ve tried a project using the skills in the workshop before - for example, some colourwork, socks in general or making a sweater - though it is not a requirement. All welcome!

Learn to Cable: Celtic Mug Cosy* - 6 hr Learn to knit cables - big, small and twist - as well as reading charts, by making a cosy cowl. Can be taught as: Cabling without a cable needle.

Colourwork & More - 6 hr Get beyond the basics of fair isle. Explore fair isle in the round (two handed!) using 2 (and more) colours. Try some different edgings like i-cord or vikkel braid.

Learn to Knit Socks - 6 hr In the workshop, learn to make a sock (using aran weight), covering all the elements of construction - cuff, turning the heel, and toe. Covers knitting in the round from scratch. Follow on: Toe-Up Socks Master Class.

Professional Finishing Techniques - 6 hr Learn how to give your knits a professional finish. This workshop covers: seaming, picking up sts, lifted increases, wrap & turns and short rows, buttonholes and tips to make your knits easier to finish. We’ll cover all the basics of sweater making including: fibres, swatching, taking your measurements, picking the right size, elements of a sweater, good practice for pattern reading, and basic modifications to perfect fit for you.

My First Sweater* - 6 hr In this workshop, students will make a mini jumper either knitted flat or in the round, depending on preference. Some basics of jumper construction will be covered, including swatching and blocking. Knitting in the round can be taught from scratch as needed. Can be done just as My First Sweater in the Round. Follow on: Sweater Fit.

Toe-Up Socks & Master Class - 6 hr Covers: construction of toe-up socks, Judy’s magic cast on, several different heel methods & reinforcement sts, a super--stretchy cast off especially for your cuffs, & different ways of knitting your socks (magic loop & two circulars at a time).

Leave the Basics Behind: Beyond the Basics 2 - 8 hr Add to your treasure trove of stitches - learn entrelac, bobbles, mosaic st, blackberry st, smocking, carried sts, herringbone, and how to do the pinhole cast on (in the round). Follow on from Beyond the Basics. Yorkshire Flowers: Beyond the Basics 3 - 8 hr By popular demand...another stitch pattern cushion. Learn 9 new stitch patterns (all different from previous cushions, of course!) as you celebrate Yorkshire’s flora. Shawl Knit-A-Long - 6 hr Bring a shawl pattern and yarn along.
