some that believe rawhide is bad for dogs,” said Tony March with Pet Factory. “These thoughts could not be more false. The truth is dogs chewing hides have been healthy for decades. Rawhide has been the No. 1 chew for more than 60 years. Pet Factory has successfully sold more than 3 billion. They are the very best for dental health and overall
well-being for dogs. We are also focusing on educating customers and the new generation of buyers that may not know the history of our safe, successful beefhide products.” Stephen Prange with Savory Prime outlines the company’s unique process of making rawhides. “At Savory Prime, we only use USA Beefhides and we take them to our company owned facilities in Mexico, and the big part about what we do is the processing. When we get that hide, it needs to be cleaned and processed to rid it of bacteria. We only use three ingredients: fresh water, hydrogen peroxide and a surfactant which is similar to a dish washing soap. Those are the only things that we put into our products. After we do this process, we rinse these hides two or three times, which is more than other companies, and this rinse makes it taste better for the dog. From there, we hand roll or press into a bone, and then we bake the product. We are very specific on how we process our products.”
