Dear PAAL Members and Supporters, As always, the summer months have passed quickly and autumn is upon us. This summer was filled with exciting activities and events at PAAL! The free Art Park Summer Concert Series has been very successful with a variety of bands and strong attendance. The two Summer Art Camp sessions exposed 46 young students to a different artist each day; it was amazing to see the students working in the styles of Vincent Van Gogh, Jackson Pollack and even pre-historic cave artists! The highlight of camp was a field trip to Studio 23 in Richmond. It was there that students were introduced to screen printing and were allowed to make prints of their own. All of this was made possible by your continuous support and the support of the Titmus Foundation. This summer, our galleries have also had great exhibits with the Members’ Miniature Show and now a nostalgic show of works by renowned Petersburg artist, Bell Worsham. PAAL also had the excitement of another movie-making adventure: a film documenting Lincoln’s assassination was partially filmed in front of PAAL’s Art Park during the first week of August. (We’ll keep you posted on when the movie will be on TV!) As autumn approaches, PAAL continues to provide cultural activities for all. We will offer art classes for pre-schoolers, students, and adults. With iPad paintings by Susan Brown, an exhibition of VSU professors’ work and the trees of Christmas, our galleries will be full for your viewing pleasure. We’re also planning several brand new events, including a Halloween Party and a winter art camp for children. We will be starting Open Studios twice a month, which will be a free opportunity for members to gather at PAAL and demonstrate their artistic skills. As the only non-profit visual art center in Petersburg, we continue to meet the needs of all artists and art enthusiasts in the area. In order to continue with our goals and mission through our programming, we are hosting a major fundraiser. On September 29, 2012, we are having a “Hollywood in Black & White” gala at New Millennium Studios. This will be a fun evening for all featuring “dinner with a twist”, dancing, a silent auction and more. I’d like to invite each and every one of our members to join us in this wonderful evening, in support of PAAL. I also want to take this opportunity to personally thank all of our sponsors, donors and supporters because without their help, this evening would not be possible.

All PAAL programing is partially funded by:

As President of PAAL, it is my sincere hope that PAAL will grow, flourish and continue to be a place supporting the arts for all. This will only be accomplished with our passion and love for the arts. Let’s continue to strive for the arts and meet the needs of all artists and art appreciators. Sincerely,

Russell Kvasnicka President, Board of Directors PAAL

Our second annual Art Park Summer Concert Series wrapped up this month with the fifth performance, and from the looks of the crowded Art Park space each month, the concerts have become a new favorite summertime tradition! We kicked off the concert series with in May with a performance by 392nd Army Band, and then during each of following Friday for the Arts! through September, you could hear the music in the air. We featured Old Towne Celtic, Jonathan Vassar and the Speckled Bird, Alison Self, Haints in the Holler, and Pieces of the Puzzle:ARGS Jazz Ensemble. Up next year: For our third season, we’ll start again on Sunday in spring and run through the summer as part of Friday for the Arts! We’ll conclude the season with another Sunday performance in September. So, take care of those lawn chairs over the winter, and bring them out next spring for the concerts!

·Happy Halloween! PAAL is inviting all kids to celebrate Halloween in the gallery on Saturday, October 27, with the PAAL Halloween Party.
