Mr. Oskar Deutsch President, Israelitische Kultusgernein de Wien Vienna Austria
Dear Mr. Deutsch, It was a pleasure to meet with you in Brussels and discuss the state of the Jewish community of Vienna. I very much appreciate your message and the information you enclosed regarding the Austrian Freedom Party; these further reinforce my own feelings, which I expressed during our conversation. Notwithstanding the high government positions held by members of this party, we, as members of the Jewish People, must join together and take a firm stand against ideologies that preach hatred towards us and other minorities. This effort is especially important at this time of year, as we remember the lessons of the Holocaust and recommit ourselves to never again allow such events to occur. As I said in my speech in Brussels, we know only too well that antisemitism threatens not only Jews but every member of society and must be opposed in all forms. I very much hope that your principled stand will be serve as a model for all Austrians and for Jewish communities around the world that face similar challenges. I wish you continued success in all your efforts.
