Gospel Community Leaders This is a draft of the document for GC leaders and training. The key to growing Soma is launch more Gospel Communities. To do this we need to make sure that we are training our GC leaders well, so they can pass on the DNA of Gospel communities to others.

Requirements • Fulfills the character requirements of an elder (see 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1): • above reproach • the husband of one wife • self-controlled • sensible • respectable • hospitable • an able teacher • not addicted to wine • not a bully but gentle • not quarrelsome • not greedy • one who manages his own household competently, having his children under control with all dignity. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of God’s church?) • he must not be a new convert, or he might become conceited and fall into the condemnation of the Devil. • must have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he does not fall into disgrace and the Devil’s trap. • Male: at this stage I canʼt see that elders are not male, and essentially GCs are small churches connected to the larger church of Soma. • Done the training required • Been a formal member of Soma for 1 year.


Expectations What we are expecting of GC leaders, keeping in mind that essentially GCs are small churches connected to the larger church of Soma: 1. Magnification • Pray for the Gospel Community • Pray for the members of the Gospel Community (as opposed to it as a whole) • Make sure prayer is happening in the community • 2. Membership • Velcro new people • Velcro lost sheep • 3. Ministry • Have a vision and structure that people can grow • Have a discipleship plan for each member of the community • Make sure that people who need extra care (emergency, etc.) are cared for. • 4. Mission • Lead a vision for mission •

Process I.

Be a member for 1 year. So that we can know the person and make sure they fulfill the requirements of an elder, especially 1 Timothy 3:6.

II.

12 months of pre-training A. Content Training See below B. On the job experience Working with an existing GC leader, making sure they are meeting 1 to 1 for feedback and understanding.

III. Application process to elders. A formal application to elders so that we can make sure all the requirements have been met. IV. 12 months of post-training. Continued meeting to make sure the DNA has been transferred properly.
