Soccer Clinic

(Every Wednesdays)

(Every Thursdays)

(Every Sundays)

Every Wednesday evening, the trainer will come with anticipation to engage our residents with physical activities in our home.

Every Thursday nights, our home will be filled with drum beats as the residents got to learnt new samba beats. Their concentration and commitment to complete the songs as a group is amazing.

We have a few very talented soccer players amongst the residents. They are trained every Sunday morning with 2 coaches from Singapore Association for Soccer Coaches.

It is beneficial for the residents as they get to improve their physical health and teamwork with group games. During Chinese New Year, the trainer presented red packets to our residents to share the joyous occasion with the Home.

THE JOURNAL

We did a pre-recording session for PCH virtual open house that will be held in June. It was fun as the residents performed well despite only practicing for less than two months.

They are also preparing for a 4 vs 4 competition soon. On 13th February, the soccer coach did an award’s day for the players who displayed good discipline on the field and good academic progress in school.

Formation Training (19th March)

As part of our March Holiday Programme, our girls were given the opportunity to experience formation training activity conducted by Conflict Management Enterprise. The objective of the Formation Training activity is to improve our girls’ resilience as a team, and their capacity to respond to change and disruption in a flexible and innovative manner, through situational and team-based training. It was an exhilarating experience for the girls as they learnt all the tactical moves and commands along with their team members.

Dad’s for life Workshop by Menjadi Bapa Hebat (MBH) (11th January to 26th February) This inspiring workshop introduces the concept of Father as the head of the family and equipped fathers with skill sets for building confident and resilient children. PHH partnering with Menjadi Bapa Hebat (MBH), have organized a series of workshop for residents who are fathers. For the month of January, 7 residents were selected to attend the workshop once a week conducted at PHH facility. The workshops aim to provide family reintegration platforms for the residents in terms of socioemotional and family relationship goals. The round trip walk is about 7 km which include a 250m long freestanding suspension bridge between the two highest points in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Some participants had overcome their fear of height by walking on the suspension bridge. The reward was satisfying, as they got to enjoy the bird’s eye view of the forest canopy and spot different wildlife in their natural habitat.

Exclusive Online Screening: Divas of the Decades (16th February) PHH residents were invited to join the online screening of “Divas of the Decades” by Mathilda D’Silva. This experience is a first for most of the residents as they got to enjoy the 1-hr performance by Mathilda and her seven-piece band. They delivered musical tribute to some of the vintage era from the 60s and 70s, right up to the current day. The event received positive feedback and acts as a good incentive for the residents.

Internal Spiritual Development (ISD) (20th February) Residents had the opportunity to attend an online spiritual development programme. This is the second time the Internal Spiritual Development (ISD) Programme is conducted. The session was organised by An-Nur Mosque & CNB under the ambit of Dadah Itu Haram campaign. The theme “Life is too Precious to be Wasted” was something that resonated very closely with the residents. We received strong support from our ambassador Dato Aaron Aziz who was invited as a guest speaker and the event was graced by Minister of State for Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of National Development, Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim.

HALFWAY HOUSE Volunteering in initiatives such as Project Blue Wave is one way to give the residents a more positive perspective of life and help to maintain sobriety. It also encourages them to contribute their efforts towards a meaningful cause such as conserving the environment to make it a better place for all.

Project Blue Wave Ambassador Workshop

We hope through such opportunities, residents will have the chance to network with other like-minded individuals while being active ambassadors for the environment.

(19th & 29th March; and 1st April) Project Blue Wave is an initiative by PA PAssionWaVe to bring Singaporeans together and build a sense of ownership of our environment through education on marine biodiversity and conservation efforts. In March, staff and residents from PHH had to attend

3

sessions

before

they

ambassadors for this project. The first was a theoretical course conducted via Zoom. The second session allowed us to learn the best practices from PA as they led the beach clean-up. For the final session, we had the chance to lead the beach cleanup. It was a good platform for the residents as they learnt how to organise and manage such events.

Such informal settings allow the staff to detect any issues that might affect the recovery of these former residents.

Drive for Change (DFC) Alumni Futsal (26th March) DFC is one of our programmes in PHH where residents are sponsored to take up class 3 driving license. Upon attainment of the license, we hope residents

On the 26th of March, our DFC residents, who have been discharged from PHH, gathered with staff from PHH at Turf City Futsal Court for a friendly soccer. Residents brought their families and took this opportunity to not only have fun and stay in shape, but also a way for them to bond with each other. THE JOURNAL

Ration Home Delivery (RHD) (Monthly) Since January this year, we have started to deliver rations to the homes of some of our recipients who are (1) above 65 years old, and/or (2) with mobility difficulties. The objective is to minimize the elderly recipients from physically collecting their rations for COVID safety, as well as to minimize the need for those with mobility difficulties to travel to the distribution point. We collaborate with our Pertapis Movers and Drive For Change for this Home Delivery project. From January to March, a total of 90 home deliveries were made. We received positive response from all of the selected recipients who are grateful that their rations are being home delivered.

The participants also got to learn how to put a price for the cookies made. More importantly, the trainer advised the participants that baking the cookies requires a lot of patience, passion, a strong mentality, and support from family members at home. She also advised the participants not to give up and be easily discouraged if their first few tries baking the cookies did not turn out well. Practice is essential and feedbacks from customers are important to continuously improve the quality of the product.
