February Events 18 February 2017 Picture speaks a thousand words It is often said that a painted picture or photograph is worth a thousand words. Concentrating on just one photo or places, it’s possible to evoke dozens of memories. Republic Polytechnic Students managed to revoke the past memories of our beloved seniors as they did a creative art therapy session. Seated in groups, our seniors were given a blank piece of paper and paint on the table. What’s unique was, no brushes were provided for the seniors. Many looked puzzled, however interestingly this is a creative way to spur their childhood memories and allowing our seniors to feel the paint and relive their childhood days where it’s okay for them to be messy. It never fails to amaze what our seniors have went through and the strength they possess despite their strugglesthrough a simple painted photo they painted.

March Events 24 March 2017 Never judge a book by its cover 24th March 2017 was a remarkable day for the staff and volunteers in Pertapis Senior Citizens’ Fellowship Home. Our dedicated volunteer decided to inject creativity and allow the seniors to get in touch with their childhood, through a simple activity. After an uplifting storytelling session, they were given a mini whiteboard with a marker. The seniors looked puzzled and expressionless when the items were distributed. Through their wrinkled skin and droopy eyes, we can sense the curiosity in some while disinterest in the others. Chattering and discontentment of not knowing what is happening filled the air. The volunteer remained calm and did a short briefing to allow the residents to reminisce their younger days when they were in school or pretended to be teacher during their childhood days. Much to our confound, the elderly start pulling off the marker caps and started drawing and writing. Our staff and volunteers were amazed seeing their creativity in their artwork during the activity. Little did we know that in a room full of crooked backs, colourless hair and time-faded eyes, there are sparkling stars and unleashed talent firing that were concealed behind the reality of ageing
