I

t was the mid to third quarter of the year and it marked an industrious journey for our PERTAPIS Halfway House Residents and Staff. From June to September, our Home participated and assisted in various events and activities. There was also the month of Ramadan where the challenge for our residents were to push them to realise their fullest potential in pursuit of their recovery as well as performance as a Muslim.

The Aidil Adha Korban event was a success as residents toiled to assist in the packing and distribution of Korban meat to the recipients and various individual donors.

The Care & Share event was a significant event where our residents assisted in distributing food hampers to the poor and needy for their preparation of the coming Ramadan. Our Residents were also involved in the Ubin Day Community Project. Residents helped to ferry logistics in preparation for Ubin Day, which promoted the “Green effort” and awareness to upkeep the rustic island. Our residents enjoyed the fruitful day and had the opportunity to have a short hike around the island. PHH residents were also involved in a Community project during the month of August as Singapore celebrates SG50. Our residents got the opportunity to partake in Coastal Clean Up and preparations for the Observance ceremony.

PHH was also fortunate to be given a chance to partake in the inaugural Closing Ceremony of the SEA Games at our new National Stadium. Our residents also had a static iftar outing @ Masjid Khalid. The guys were given a platform to integrate the norms of breaking of fast as well as perform the night prayers during Ramadan known as “Solat Terawih”

PHH also collaborated with CDC and had the fortune to have IBM to conduct workshops as their corporate community project. Residents were taught grooming and resume writing skills. We were also graced by the presence of Mr Tony Blair, Ambassador and Delegate from the USA in his visit to the Home.

PHH also invited families to the Home to celebrate Aidilfitri with their love ones. It was a memorable “Lebaran Family Fiesta” moment as residents had performances which moved the families to accept them in better light.

As September ends, PHH looks forward to Awal Muharram, the new Hijrah Calendar in Islam as it entails a new spiritual journey and more programmes for their rehabilitation and recovery.
