BEACH PLANS EXTENDED THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION OF QUEENSLAND HAS GRANTED NOOSA COUNCIL AN EXTENSION UNTIL THE END OF MAY TO PRESENT A FINAL DRAFT OF ITS COASTAL HAZARDS ADAPTATION PLAN FOR REVIEW.

The Coastal Hazards Adaptation Plan (CHAP) generated more than 200 submissions during the public comment phase which closed on March 8. The plan was created in response to the Department of Environment and Science’s QCoast2100 program which seeks to have seaside councils in Queensland consider the possible effects of rising sea levels over the next 80+ Eastern Beaches News - April 2021

years and to develop a strategies for managing the changes this would bring to communities living at the water’s edge. Noosa Council’s draft CHAP has drawn the ire of a number of parties and inspired the creation of a new group - the Eastern Beaches Protection Association (EBPA). With a steering committee containing a who’s who of prominent businesspeople and Noosa prime beachside landowners EBPA has been forthright in its opposition to elements of the draft plan, urging council to reconsider some of the restrictions it has suggested around development of existing beachfront properties and to put more effort into dune protection.
