Digbeth & Saltley Centres

Positive About Mental Health

What can we offer students at our Digbeth and Saltley Centres? Our spacious training rooms and learning suites are all wellequipped and laid out. Most have natural light and all are well ventilated and comfortable places to learn. Specialist training areas at both sites are dedicated to enabling students to gain vocational skills and include a purpose-built Training Kitchen at the Digbeth Centre and an extensive Textiles Workroom at Saltley. Our IT suites offer Internet access and the facility to study for a wide range of qualifications. They are equipped to stringent health & safety standards including footrests, ergonomic chairs and anti-glare screens. Self service restaurant areas at both sites are comfortable and welcoming with ample seating. Hot drinks are served twice a day and at lunchtimes. A selection of hot and cold food is available. The menu is changed every day and includes healthy eating, vegetarian and Halal options. Both sites have a small retail facility selling soft drinks, confectionery and other personal items. At the Digbeth centre we also sell craft and household items such as soft furnishings, and gift items. Healthy bodies are as important as well trained minds and we offer a choice of outdoor activities including our Green Gym programme and horticultural training based at our allotment areas where we grow fresh produce from which we make preserves and chutneys. There is a wide range of work experience opportunities on offer within BITA Pathways from manufacturing and packing operations at the Digbeth site to quality textiles production at St Anne’s Centre in Saltley. At BITA Pathways we believe we have something unique to offer people experiencing mental ill health in Birmingham and Solihull. Our service users are at the core of everything we do and our mission is to provide high quality services in a supportive and friendly environment. Frequently Asked Questions Who are we? BITA Pathways Training is a division of BITA Pathways, a mental health charity established over 45 years ago. We are an independent training provider specialising in delivering vocational, pre-vocational and lifestyle training programmes for adults experiencing mental ill health. Who are we for, and how much does it cost? Exclusively for adults aged 18 and over living in the Birmingham and Solihull area. All BITA Pathways Training programmes are free to those in receipt of means tested state benefits. What qualifications will I obtain? Most of our programmes are accredited by the National Open College Network. This flexible system allows students to move along a pathway of levels from pre-entry to GCSE equivalent and allows you to achieve either an Award, a Certificate or a Diploma depending on your choice of course. We also offer nationally recognised qualifications accredited by City & Guilds and Information Technology e-Quals Certificates and Diplomas. Why should I choose BITA Pathways? We offer training to suit any level of student in a friendly and supportive environment. All our courses are delivered in small groups, typically 6-8 students, and much of our training is delivered on a one-to-one basis. All our tutors have a professional qualification and are experienced within their chosen subject areas, and we work in partnership with South Birmingham College, so you can be assured of a high quality standard. And then...? At the end of all training programmes you will be offered an exit interview with one of our vocational skills advisers. You might decide to progress to the next level of any particular course, or that you want to study in mainstream education...Or you might feel ready to move on to employment. If this is the case you could see one of our employment support workers. Whatever you decide to do, our trained advisers will be there to help you. Our craft centre offers a wide range of workshops including wood craft, pottery, candle craft and floral art, and provides yet another option for service users to engage in work experience by producing finished items for sale in a variety of locations. Our busy assembly and packing area provides a supportive environment where service users can develop their skills for the Industrial and Engineering sectors. Catering and food preparation experience can be gained through placements in the busy canteen at the Digbeth centre whilst Customer Service experience is available in our retail shop. Textiles by St Anne’s at the Saltley Centre provides work experience in all aspects of domestic and contract soft furnishings.
