Introduction Sometimes reducing our troubles back to simple basics; one day at a time; one step at a time; can allow us to chew the big chunks in little pieces; instead of choking on the big pieces because they’re just too daunting! So, how do you eat an elephant?

Rest time isn’t wasted time - it’s critically important time! Creating and maintaining a balance between having a go, and smelling the roses, is vital to sustainable success and real happiness. That balance is absolutely necessary, regardless of what we do as a job or profession. If you’re wondering how to begin this process of making every day count, it begins with a decison to adopt the “Carpe Diem” attitude - and Seize the Day! Yes, every day opportunities await us and we must decide whether to take the chance today, or play it safe and wait until tomorrow. What’s that old saying about tomorrow? Tomorrow never comes! Time waits for no-one... absolutely no-one! So don’t waste one more precious moment!

Time; Laughter; and Choices Time Issues The feeling of being totally controlled by time (or the feeling that it is lacking.... not enough time.... running out of time) is more widely spread than I first imagined. For interest sake, I have personally slowed down my own highway driving speed, walking pace, breathing, and anything else that I became aware of that required slowing down during the week. My body and mind are both jubilant, and enjoying the changes! Like everything else that falls into the category of becoming aware, you will be also be amazed if you begin to slow your life down, as to how many different aspects of your lives are being rushed. You might be interested in some new affirmations or mantras relating to slowing down (?).... “The slower I go - the more I achieve”! “The more I slown down - the quicker I get things done”! “I am time rich; dollar rich; and spiritually rich”! “There is an abundance of time for everything in my life”! And in the words of an old song: “Time, time, time.... is on my side - yes it is”! (Bring back any memories?) Toime for a Laff.... An Oirish Story An Irishman goes to the Doctor with bottom problems.... “Dactor, it’s me rear-end. I’d loik ya ta teyhk a look, if ya woot”. So the doctor gets him to drop his pants and takes a look. “Incredible”he says, “there is a £20 note lodged up here.” Tentatively he eases the twenty out of the man’s bottom, and then a £10 note appears. “This is amazing!”exclaims the Doctor. ‘’What do you want me to do?” “Well fur gadness sake teyhk it out, man!”, shrieks the patient. The doctor pulls out the tenner and another twenty appears, and another and another and another... Finally the last note comes out and no more appear. “Ah Dactor, tank ya koindly, dat’s moch batter. Just out of interest, how moch was in dare den?” The Doctor counts the pile of cash and says “£1,990 exactly.”

“Ah, dat’d be roit,’’ says the Irishman, “I knew I wasn’t feeling two grand.” Choices And if you’re not feeling too grand yerself at the moment, then I wish you well with whatever it is you’re dealing with right now. Remember that we actually have a choice each day when we awake: We can choose to be grateful for what we’ve got and live life to the fullest - or we can choose to be a victim of our circumstances and feel down and miserable. We actually have that choice each day, so I hope that you can embrace it, and run with the gratitude choice if you can! I was chatting with a colleague the other day who mentioned that she had just seen another success story walk out of her office, after only three visits of seeing her as a Life Coach. Her client had been on anti-depressants, and seeing a variety of medical practitioners, for about 5 years. Her client told her that after only three visits, she was now free to live her life to the full, so wouldn’t be requiring any further help. She felt compelled to ask the client what she had heard, seen or learnt, that had made such an impact in such a short timeframe, allowing the new-found freedom. The answer was that she had been told by my colleague that she had choices each day, and she chose to stop being a victim and feeling so low, and get on with her life! She knew that the process of adopting that attitude would improve with practise, and she was willing to give it a go! If you happen to be in a low spot in life, that philosphy is worth a thought!

Victim or Victor? Almost everything in our lives depends on whether we are acting as a victor - or as a victim. Let me put that another way: We have the choice to either blame other people for our current circumstances; Or - we can take responsibility and say to ourselves, “maybe I’m causing this situation”? I promise you that if you take the latter choice - you will come out of the situation as a victor! You will win over whatever adversity is facing you - and be triumphant in your results. This applies to relationship issues; business decisions; cashflow (business or personal); health; general wellbeing... etc. Why? Because whenever we’re in a situation and blaming others, “it’s all their fault”, then we can’t change the situation in any way whatsoever - simply because it’s due to somebody else being at fault. And we all know that we can’t change anybody else - don’t we (?) But we can learn to know that we can change ourselves - and our circumstances - if we take responsibility and ‘own’ where we’re at. Example 1: Someone has a problem with a noisy barking dog in the property next to theirs. They can choose to blame the neighbours, and constantly whinge about the barking dog to everybody else; or - they can go and see the neighbours and tell them that there’s a problem, and it would be great if something could be done about it! The first choice - to blame the neighbours and the mongrel dog - leaves them powerless over the situation and drives them nuts! The second choice - to go and discuss the noise problem - gives them a chance to change the whole situation. Example 2: Let’s look at someone who is experiencing CashFlow problems in their business. Business is actually quite busy - but they still aren’t experiencing a good cashflow situation! This person facing this cashflow crisis has two choices: To blame all of their customers who owe them money and haven’t paid as yet; or to say to themselves, “perhaps I’ve caused this situation because I’ve let them get away with not paying on time in the past, so now they’ve learnt that it’s OK to do that” (?) If they choose blame mode - then they’re the victim and can’t do a thing about it! If they answer “yes” to their own question, then they are in a position to change the rules, and get positive results.

It is easy for us to allow past and present circumstances to control and determine our destiny. We can easily allow ourselves to stay stuck in self-defeat, self-sabotage, self-pity or depression. However - if we realise that we all have the capacity to get past whatever is blocking our path - then we can rise to experience victory. The answer is in the doing! Not just knowing about it - but actually doing something about it! Knowing that something is right - or having the information and knowing that it is true - isn’t taking responsibility for doing the best with the knowledge you have. However - actually doing something about it - taking action – is moving towards being the victor - rather than the victim.

WAR - a song that sums up my own feelings! War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! War is something that I despise, For it means destruction of innocent lives; For it means tears in thousands of mothers’ eyes; When their sons go out to fight to give their lives. War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! Say it again.... War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! War! It’s nothing but a heartbreaker! War! Friend only to the undertaker; War is the enemy of all mankind. The thought of war blows my mind! Handed down from generation to generation; Induction destruction! Who wants to die? War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! Say it again.... War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! War has shattered many young men’s dreams; Made them disabled, bitter and mean! Life is too precious to be fighting wars each day! War can’t give life it can only take it away!
