Welcome to People Matters 2016 annual report. We are proud to report on another fantastic year which has seen us grow what we do. People Matters has now been supporting its members for 13 years. We know our work is all about the services we provide. It’s about the difference this makes to our members. So our funding for courses for adults maybe to help meet the national plans to build people’s skills. Really though, here in Leeds, it’s actually about creating opportunities for members to do something new. Something that is important to them. We just get on with doing our best. Through all this we haven’t forgotten how we started and why. In fact our values are a really important part of us. They stay at the top of the homepage of our website so everyone can see what they are. We put them in our Annual Report (see page 11). We know that people have been finding dealing with the challenges they face getting ever more difficult. There has been lots in the news saying how councils have less to spend. People are bothered about their benefits too. So we think it’s even more important People Matters is strong. It’s important we build the services we provide. All this hasn’t stopped us thinking about the future. We want to make sure we make lives better for everyone involved with us. Did you know that more than 1 in 3 of our staff have a disability or manage a long term health condition? So look at our Teens and Twenties Project or Active Matters. They are both funded by national organisations. Then there is the individual support we now provide for young people as well as adults. There is all the training we provide for our partner organisations and their service users across Leeds. Last summer we started to plan for the future. We thought about how we needed to seek new money from new places. Having a job gives opportunities and we want to support members to work too if it is right for them. There is still a lot to do but our Nourishing People work has made a good start. More to follow next year.
