www.rosslandfallfair.ca This traditional fall fair is housed in the Rossland Arena, two or three steep blocks up from Rossland’s comely downtown. The fair is an integral part of the Golden City Days celebrations and this year it’s a special edition with a Canada 150 theme. To enter your garden produce and home-made craft and hobby items in a variety of categories go to www.rosslandfallfair.ca Besides the Special Edition Canada 150 sections, there will be craft and market vendors, the petting zoo and the fish pond, and live music and entertainment. Who will win the blue ribbon for the best carrot – or the most fantastic carrot? Or show the most flair in the Canada 150 theme table setting or veggie critter? Other competitions featuring food will make you laugh out loud. Let loose and enjoy Rossland’s incomparable mountain culture and join in for this last hurrah of summer.

Admission is $5, free under 12 www.hillsgarlicfest.ca Celebrating 25 years – Music, family stuff, 160 vendors, food, produce, crafts, and of course … GARLIC! Only service dogs permitted at the Centennial Park, New Denver. Come with friends and travel together. Car-pooling is encouraged and there is an incentive: free festival passes! The first 3 adults in the vehicle will pay and the rest get in free. So if you’ve got an 8 passenger van, fill it up! The more people who travel together, the smaller the festival “footprint” will be. The sheer size of this fair is almost overwhelming. Just start with the coffee vendor and weave around each section. A favourite destination is the crêpe stand and don’t miss the gelato. Yum! In addition to the food vendor area, there is a farmers’ market with local produce, locally made crafts and other cottage products. The Hills Garlic Festival is the perfect way to get away from your daily routine and enjoy a September blue sky day with your family and friends.

Free admission. Harrop Hall, 6066 McConnell Rd This annual event has over 30 vendors, great food from the Harrop Hall volunteers, music, and children’s events (parade and Imagination Station hosted by the Kootenay Lake Family Network). It offers a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere that encourages you to browse at leisure, have lunch and listen to local musicians performing throughout the afternoon. There are prizes to be won through various draws, including the always popular ‘Guess the weight of the pumpkin’ – the winner gets the pumpkin and half the proceeds! All revenue goes to Harrop Hall renovations, so plan to come for the day and enjoy the great atmosphere and lots of local produce and crafts.
