Managers Profile: Name: Antony Buck What is your football background? Played football from the day i could walk and still play 5 a side now at 43 years old ! A Man Utd fan. How long have you been involved with Pennine Juniors? Since 2012 when my son Oliver joined Kindy. How long have you been managing a team? Managed the Under 7 whites from 2013. What do you like most about managing a team? The excitement of the parent’s in the build-up to each game! What do you find challenging when managing a team? Getting the lads to listen rather than mess about! What has been your funniest/best/ most memorable moment? Seeing the opposition score a goal funnily enough!! We played a team from Prestwich recently and they’d failed to score all season. We did beat them 8.1 but when they scored their goal, the joy on the kids and parent’s faces was fantastic – it was like they’d won the lottery!! Describe your team: They’re a fantastic set of lads and are all good pals off the pitch as well as on it. They can be easily distracted but when they focus they can play some really great football. What are you focusing on in training? We focus on the basics – passing, dribbling and shooting. Tell us the best game to date and why: A 6.5 victory away at Prestwich Marauders Vipers. It was real end to end football and the game had everything from great passing, tackling and lots of goals – and we won!! What advice/tips would you give to young, up and coming footballers? Listen to your coach. Enjoy the time with your teammates but leave the messing around until you get back with your parents!!

Match reports: Opponent: Rammy Rockets Date: 07/09/13 Venue: Home Result: Lost 6-16 Match report: The first match of the new campaign brought an eager Pennine team together against skilful opposition in Rammy Rockets. The home team did themselves proud in the first half and went in level at 4.4 at the break. Pennine tired a little in the second half and ended up with a 6.16 defeat but all the kids showed great desire and had fun. Joe Kershaw and Nathan Perks grabbed a hat-trick each with Joe Kershaw taking Man of the Match. Opponent: Walshaw SC Blacks Date: 21/09/13 Venue: Home Result: Won 6-3 Match report: The game started with Pennine constantly on the attack with Nathan Perks battling typically well in midfield winning the ball and going on those doggied mazy runs of his, he was supported with Joe Kershaw and Louie Norbury in the attacks and all 3 supplied the ball well to each other and had chances. Walshaw were having some joy too with attempts on our goal but were kept a bay by our super stand-in Sam Hicks in defence and great stops from keeper Oliver Buck charging out putting doubt in the mind of their strikers. It was early in the first half and Louie opened the scoring striking the ball across the keeper and into the bottom corner after running onto a loose ball from yet another Nathan and Joe battle in midfield. Shortly after it was 2-0, Nathan finally getting reward for his persistence running through the defence and skilfully guiding the ball past the keeper. Still Walshaw were getting no joy at the other end, Sam and Oliver bravely doing their bit keeping them out. Next it was Joe’s turn to get on the score sheet after another battle in their penalty area staying on his feet, focussing on the ball and poking it into the net. The boys started to tire and conceded a goal just before half time after some good play from Walshaw. The second half started in much the same fashion, Walshaw attacking with some refreshed subs with the Whites looking tired, soon it was 3 all and Walshaw were right back in it. Rested a little, Nathan and Louie couldn’t resist getting forward and all of sudden our defence was none existent but all the players got back when needed, this paid of midway into the last half with Louie putting us ahead again with a great strike from the back of the area into the roof of net (4-3). It was just full on attack now and Nathan bagged 2 more in same trademark fashion as his first with great assistance from Oliver and Sam in midfield.Final score Pennine Whites 6 – 3 Walshaw SC Blacks A massive thank you to Sam Hicks for a great performance and I think man of the match. Opponent: Prestwich Marauders Vipers Date: 28/09/13 Venue: Away Result: Won 5.6 Match report: The third match of the campaign brought the Whites to the hostile atmosphere of the Prestwich arena in what proved to be an absolute thriller. Both teams showed great energy and desire in the first haIf with Pennine coming in 4.2 ahead at the break with the pick of the goals being a screamer from George Cocker. The Vipers fought back in great style in the second half and at 5.5 with minutes left the advantage was with the home team. However, Oliver Buck kept the Vipers at bay with some fine saves and in the final minute, on the counter attack, Joe Kershaw, Lewis Whiteside and Louie Norbury engaged in some fine passing that released Nathan Perks to thrash home the winner for Pennine. Another victory for the whites, 4 goals for Nathan, 1 for Louie and 1 for George and Man of the Match to George Cocker for a cracking goal.
Opponent: Prestwich FC Tigers Date: 05/10/13 Venue: Home Result: Won 8.1 Match report: Looking for their third victory on the bounce, the Whites entertained the Tigers with top scorer Nathan Perks absent and Sam Hicks drafted into the squad. An early strike from Louie settled the nerves of the home team but the Whites were soon on the backfoot after conceding a penalty. A terrific save from George Cocker proved to be only partial relief as the Tigers equalised a few minutes later. Sam Hicks came off the bench and soon restored the lead for the Whites with a great brace. After the break, the Whites scored the goal of the game to put the game out of reach – Oliver Buck fed Joe Kershaw who sprayed the ball to Louie on the left wing. After a kinking run, Louie fired the ball into the area which was met by Lewis Whiteside to smash home the 4th goal. Further goals for George, Louie, Sam and Joe secured an 8.1 victory with man of the match going to Lewis for his first goal of the season.
Opponent: Walshaw SC Blacks Date: 12/10/13 Venue: Away Result: Lost 2.10 Match report: The Whites winning streak came to an abrupt end this week with an away visit to Walshaw SC Blacks, a team they beat earlier in the season. Unfortunately it was all downhill from Page | 5
then on, Walshaw ran riot through our defence and scored 3 quick goals. A further 5 goals for the home team ended a tough day for the Whites. Man of the match was Oliver Buck for some fine tackling at centre half. Opponent: Woodbank Black Date: 09/11/13 Venue: Away Result: Lost 5.1 Match report: After 2 postponed matches the boys flew out of the traps and Nathan Perks sent them into an early lead with a typically clinical strike. A tough midfield battle followed which the boys struggled with and they found themselves 3.1 down at the interval. Despite a battling second half and some valuable experience gained the lads conceded 2 further goals and finished the game on the wrong end of a 5.1 result.
