Tips

Fresh lobster meat makes a big difference in flavor. If using frozen, make sure it's fully thawed and patted dry

Fresh herbs (like chives or parsley), microgreens, or a drizzle of truffle oil elevate presentation and flavor

A crisp salad or roasted asparagus balances the richness of the dish

Pairs well with a buttery Chardonnay or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc

Fall... Prime Boating Time

Wanting to arrive by water to enjoy the amenities, or an afternoon/evening of fine dining? If so, you might be wondering where can I park? Finding a place to park can sometimes be challenging, especially during these beautiful fall afternoons and evenings. Please check in with your marina team so we can properly direct you to open transient slips. Calling ahead will help your marina team better serve you.

Remember, please do not park and leave your vessel in slips designated for fueling and pump out!

Fall is also a great time to assess things on your boat, especially after a busy boating season. Suggested items to assess:

Shore power cord- Inspect and replace if needed. Call the marina for an inspection!

Dock line- Replace if frayed or weathered. Make sure line is properly sized for your boat.

Cover/bimini- Properly sized and secure, snaps, tie downs, etc.

Boat condition- Schedule a full detail or a boat wash to maintain your vessel

Routine maintenance- Oil changes, impellers, spark plugs, etc.

Winterization- Be prepared and schedule now.

Marina Manager Reminder

Any vessel moored in spaces overnight will have to get prior approval from management!

FLEETCOMMITTEENEWS

A erhaps my favorite month of the year in North Carolina! The weather is beautiful, the l he leaves are starting to turn, and PSL is back at Starbucks! More importantly, there is A g g n with the Fleet Committee and with Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club.

As you read this, we will be rapidly approaching the real star of the sailing season, our annual Peninsula Cup Regatta, the premier sailing event on Lake Norman. The dates are October 3-5, 2025, and we will offer many different classes for participating yachts, including One Design, Spinnaker, Non-Spinnaker, and Cruising. This enables sailors and yachts of all different levels of skills and designs to participate competitively. All participating yachts must have a LNKC-approved PHRF rating to compete. Register to race at www.regattanetwork.com/event/30018. Direct any questions to Mark Cook, Sail Fleet Captain (markalancook@yahoo.com).

In addition to the racing, there will be several shore events for members to participate in, including an Opening Social Mixer at 5:30 p.m. on Friday (10/3); a special Saturday Night dinner, and the Awards Ceremony and picnic on Sunday (1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.). To participate in the weekend, simply register with Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club for any of the shore events.

But…October is not just for sailing! Arrrrgh! Yes, mateys, it is Pirate Treasure Hunt time again! YoHo-Ho and a bottle of Evian, it’s time to gather yer crew and set off in hot pursuit of those nefarious pirates that have stolen the club’s treasure! This adventure is open to families and kids (ages 5 and up, please), and parents must accompany their children. The date is Saturday, October 18 (rain date Sunday 10/19). Go to the club calendar to register and select your time slot. th

And afterwards, Halloween is right around the corner, so be sure to pay attention to the weekly Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club e-blast of things happening around the club. Who knows what spookiness lies in wait for the unsuspecting?

Peninsula Yacht Club Fall Fellowship

Throughout September, Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club and the PYC Fleet Committee hosted its casual Fall Fellowship series, offering short-format races intended for sailors of all skill levels. Results from these races lead up to the season's final series of competitive regattas, with four Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club sailing competitors registered for this event.

Fall sailing is still underway on Lake Norman following September's Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club Fall Fellowship series Local sailors now turn their attention toward the larger Peninsula Cup Regatta, October 35 : The 33rd annual event includes a weekend of racing, dinners, and awards. rd th

Looking Ahead

While the competitive sailing season winds down, dedicated sailors on Lake Norman will continue to take advantage of the autumn winds. After the conclusion of the major regattas, attention will turn toward the offseason and planning for the 2026 season.

To get involved, email me at Markalancook@yahoo.com. I hope to see you sailing on the lake.
