This year the Sequim and Port Angeles Realtor® Associations are holding their Open House Weekend on May 17 and 18. This year it is not a Nationwide Event as in previous years. At the National Association of Realtors® it was decided not to hold the open house event as many areas felt that they could not participate due to low volume of homes on the market. While many areas of the country have seen a resurgence to higher prices, multiple offer situations and lower number of days on the market, that is not the case here in Clallam County. History tells us that we are somewhere 12-24 months behind the Seattle real estate market. What the Seattle area is experiencing is a good indicator of what will be coming our way. “Combine historic low interest rates with affordable housing prices, and you have the perfect combination for why now is a prime time to purchase a home” says loan officer, Kathi Larsen of First Federal. “Now is a good time to buy” says Heidi Hansen, President of the Sequim Association of Realtors®. According to the Case-Shiller Index, home prices have increased 12.9% over this time last year on a national average. While we still have good values in homes in all price ranges, we are definitely seeing investors

coming back into the market and buying up properties to turn into rentals. “Now is also a good time to purchase that future retirement home” says Al Krubbe, owner of Peninsula Mortgage. “It will qualify as a second home, for vacation purposes, as long as it is not rented out.  A second home that is held strictly for personal use and not rented out qualifies for owner occupied interest rates.  Buying your retirement home now will save you money while at the same time having an interest rate that probably will not be available when you decide to retire. ” “Our market is busy,” says Hansen, “106 homes have sold in Port Angeles year to date and 168 homes in Sequim. Our current inventory is at 241 homes in Port Angeles and 322 homes in Sequim which represents only 7-8 months of inventory.” Rhonda Rose with Bank of America advises, “The Gallup organization just released their April Economy and Personal Finances Poll
