Pink and orange are the two colours you will be seeing in a vast variety of shades in beauty and fashion this Spring. Many makeup brands are creating more shades of vibrant pinks and oranges this year, more so than any other, coming in a variety of textures. There is definitely a formula fit for every individual.

Orange

PIN WRITTEN BY SYDEN THERESE ABRENICA

Spring usually comes in the form of florals or soft pastels, but this season, it’s all about the hot, poppy pink lip.

We’ve been seeing this flash of flush all over the red carpet. Margot Robbie, Caitlin FitzGerald, Kaley Cuoco, Debby Ryan and Lea Michele have all been donning the gorgeous shade. For a seriously bold look, go for a semi-matte lipstick, like the NARS Lipstick in Schiap. But first, prime your lips with a waterproof lip liner. This will make your lipstick truly budge-proof. After applying the lipstick, you can opt to add just a bit of gloss in the center of your lips for fullness.

To go a bit sheerer, a lip lacquer is the perfect product. It marries the beautiful pigment of a lipstick as well as the dewy finish of a gloss. Try the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain in Fuchsia Tomboy, a lovely, shiny pink.

03

04

Plus, the gloss is super lightweight, so you won’t feel that icky greasy residue on your pout. Just want a hint of pink tint? A lip stain is as subtle as it gets! Try Ameli’s Plat Lips Lipstick in Rosebay. You can be as heavy-handed or light-handed as you’d like.

WRITTEN BY ANNA BRECK Could there be a happier colour than orange? Stylist’s Beauty Director Joanna McGarry doubts it... “Orange is the make-up equivalent of knocking back that first, long awaited passionfruit caipirinha on your Caribbean holiday. It’s a burst of sunshine in a mottled grey sky. And it shows you have a confident knowledge of summer beauty trends without trying too hard. We’re now dab hands at sporting orange on fingernails and emblazoned across lips so, if you’re au fait with these, take a step into the unknown with a new application.” 01 MAC Cosmetics (Morange) 02 Make Up For Ever Sculpting Blush (Iridescent) 03 Ameli PlatLips lipstick (Apricot Cheese) 04 Shu Uemura Glow On (Soft Coral) 05 Chanel Joue Contrast (Espiegle) 06 Kevin Aucoin Expert Lip Color (Micavel)

Nail Art and the use of nail polish has become more popular within’ the last few years. Not only is it displayed on the runway, you see people on the streets of all ages wearing something to suit their mood and personality.

NAIL ART

trending WRITTEN BY LINDSEY UNTERBERGER From the hottest new shades to nail art and interesting polish combinations, the runways are where the latest manicure trends are taken out for a spin. Designers work with the top manicurists and nail brands to come up with a fashionable nail to complement their collections.

The strategic sparkle look with allover glitter can read holiday really fast, which is why we dug the more low-key sparkles at Jenny Packham. To get the look, follow the Deborah Lippmann nail gurus who limited the use of the glittery Set in Stones polish to the edges of the models’ nails.

Half-moon manicures are nothing new. It was in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, but something about the whiteand-nude half-moons at Milly caught our eye. “I love creating nail art on a nude base because it gives the illusion that the nail art is floating on the nail,” said Katie Jane Hughes, Butter London global color ambassador. This spring is all about the stripes! Remember that nail art pen you were going to get to re-create the windowpane style from the Tracy Reese show? Well, you can use it again to re-create this minimalist-chic look that celebrity nail pro Jin Soon Choi came up with for the models at Tibi.

Learn how to read the ingredients list... WRITTEN BY PEIJI QUAN

“

Almost every beauty brand is starting to sell a more natural line of skincare and cosmetics, but most of the time, it is all just a marketing tactic to capture our attention, when looking for more natural beauty products. Although most natural and organic beauty brands are expensive, there are still some relatively less expensive alternatives, once you know what ingredients to look for and avoid. Usually the shorter the ingredients list the better, but make sure you know how to read the ingredients labels as well. The top portion of the list is usually what the product contains most of. So actually, parabens aren’t actually that bad when you think about it. Not all natural ingredients are good for you, you may even be allergic to some of them, if you are not careful with reading the list.

WRITTEN BY PEIJI QUAN When travelling for short or long haul flights, flying in the air is bound to make your skin dry. The most important thing when flying, is to keep yourself hydrated throughout the flight. Make sure, you are not wearing too much makeup, as it may break you out the next day after you land, because of the sudden change in air conditions. There is a vast majority of products that are great for air travel. Want to freshen up after a long flight, but don’t want to carry your large bottle of perfume or fragrance around with you? There are companies who are starting to making small refillable atomizers, so you can carry a purse size perfume of your choice, wherever you decide to go. Instead of bringing a bottle of nail olish remover, keep a pack on nail polish remover wipes in your suitcase in case of any polish chip emergencies.

Char The newest skin care ingredient on the market is hoping to prove that charcoal is not just for cooking burgers and smoking ribs.

rcoal

WRITTEN BY SARAH NEWCOMB Activated charcoal - the main ingredient in a number of new facial scrubs and masks – works to draw oil, dirt, bacteria, chemicals and other impurities from your skin’s pores, claiming to leave skin smooth and blemish-free. Having suffered with acne-prone skin since the age of 10, I am wary of any product that claims to reduce acne and oil and leave my skin glowing and radiant. Most products with those claims end up leaving my skin in a worse state than it was before I began using them. But, after using a few different charcoal-based skin cleansers and masks, I can honestly say that – as messy and unsightly as they may be when on your skin- these products actually live up to their hype. Origins mask is one of the best charcoal-based skin care products on the market. Activated charcoal and white china clay draw out toxins and environmental impurities, allowing your skin to breathe.

It has an easy to apply, gel-like texture, that hardens quickly and leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed. A must-have part of your weekly skin care regime.

Dark Angels’ cleanser contains black sugar and charcoal as its main ingredients, this cleanser exfoliates while removing gunk and oil from your skin, all while lightly hydrating and brightening skin. It can be used as a daily cleanser, however those with sensitive skin may find the exfoliating particles too harsh for every day use. 01 Origins Clear Improvement Mask 02 LUSH Dark Angels Cleanser

COLOU YOUR As you may know, hair chalking has been around for a little while now and it’s a great way to temporarily add colour to your locks.

UR HAIR

What you need to know about hair chalking WRITTEN BY SAHRA SCHUKRAFT Welcome to a new trend in beauty: hair chalking. I’ve been hearing this term floating around amongst the “hipsters” of Tumblr and decided to do some research. Turns out, it’s actually the coolest non-committal beauty trend I’ve seen in awhile! So, what exactly is hair chalking? It’s taking your hair and using either regular chalk or specifically made hair chalk to color your hair. Crazy? Maybe. Fun? Definitely. Is it really that easy? Yes! You too can have My Little Pony, unicorn or mermaid hair for the weekend, and still show up to work on Monday looking like your buttoned-up professional self.

1. It can be done to ALL hair colours and types, including blondes, brunettes, redheads, all without the use of bleach or dyes. 2. If you use soft pastels chalk from your local arts store, be sure to not use oil pastels. 3. Blick is a good brand to go for. 4. There is also a brand called HairColorChalk, which makes hyper pigmented chalks specifically intended for hair. 5. If you have dark hair, it is better to lightly moisten the sections of hair before pplying the chalk. 6. If you have blonde hair, do not moisten your hair or it WILL stain. 7. To apply just twist your hair, then rub the chalk into and around it, small sections as a time. 8. You can have fun with the style! Do it with braids, fishtails, buns, beachy waves, etc. 9. Before you shower and wash your hair, brush out as much of the color as you can.
