M Marini exudes a contemporary italianate ambiance anchored by a minimalist backdrop accented by classical furnishing with opulent upholstery, marble finishes and unexpected optical punctuations. This allegory of modern clean lines with eclectic measures of baroque and classical hints is further enhanced by symbols of strength and freedom in the form of iconic art replicas; the famed david by michelangelo as a centerpiece in the dining floor and canaletto’s painting of venice’s grand canal as the backdrop of the bar counter. Reminiscing the old and giving an ode to the new simultaneously is the cheeky horse lamp from swedish design group, front design by moooi.

13

Terrengganu Boat Making Apprentice Academy Pulau Duyong, Terengganu Darul Iman Universiti Putra Malaysia Year 3 Sem 1

The site is the educational centripetal point for boat making apprentice academy. The design proposes oval shaped building that provided edge less and equivalent view to building in different points of view. The sheltered space under the oval enclosure works as a flexible space for outdoor learning and for socializing: it is connected to the courtyard and can be considered as an outdoor extension of the classrooms, creating a spatial continuum between indoors and outside. It coupled with diminishing social space that has given rise to social disconnection. Small and modern in design, with no reference to the area’s traditional building style, the school has nonetheless become the physical and spiritual centre of what was a declining village. This design allows the architecture to communicate with users and realize its role as a social interface. It merges the various flows of different people, culminating in a fluid community that connects and reinforces analogue exchanges.
