President¹s Letter

TERMINAL APATHY: That is my favorite word when describing the attendance at Homeowners Association events, and the abysmal turnout at the AGM in July was a typical example. I think all together with your Board members there were about 10 people representing over 300 homes! Pretty shameful in my opinion and makes the hard work that your Board does voluntarily all seem a little pointless,  yet homeowners are the first to complain when some minor problem affects them personally. Last year we had a record attendance. My message to all is: If you don¹t take an interest and participate then a few will dictate how your Association is run and this is to be regretted because that is not the way it is supposed to happen. The State Legislature has a real burr under it¹s saddle about Homeowners Associations and that is because a few rogue ones take advantage of the homeowner apathy.  Now to another contentious subject, WATER !! Bridgestone MUD still has signs up requesting VOLUNTARY rationing which is quite reasonable, but some selfish homeowners decide to ignore that and water out of hours as often as they like, not only being selfish but wasting water by watering the road, driveways and sidewalks. Kind of silly when you consider that most grass/lawn experts say that watering daily is damaging to St.Augustine grass (which is a weed anyway!) and watering in the hot sun pointless considering the evaporation rate in this part of the country. (Consult your own expert please but mine hasn¹t been wrong in the 7

years I have been here) It is true that we are getting rain but it is not nearly enough considering the recent drought. So a Crie de Coeur PLEASE BE ECONOMICAL. Follow the voluntary guidelines laid out by Bridgestone MUD. There are some interesting submissions for the newsletter ads and information this month and I urge you all to read them.  The hurricane season is well under way and as of writing we have escaped the first serious storm of the year. Please be prepared and don¹t leave everything until the last minute.  Finally the delinquent assessment situation is becoming quite critical and we will have no alternative but to consider raising the assessment for 2013 if the payment situation does not get any better. As of last month it was over 25% in arrears. The assessments are the lifeblood of our organization and we cannot sustain a debtor rate of that magnitude forever. We know the economic situation is still pretty flaccid and we can help if we know but if we don¹t we are powerless to do anything to alleviate the hardship. Please help us help you.  Sincerely,  Bob Wise President. Stone Forest HOA

STONE FOREST FLYER Non-Profit Looking For Host Families Please forward this information on to everyone you know!  I’ve also attached a flyer so it can be printed and put up in break rooms, etc.   We’ll pay YOU $200 if you refer a family that hosts!   Help support world peace in our community.  Let’s embrace the Olympic mantra that one person can impact the world.  You are one person – one family who can offer an exchange student the chance to represent their home nation, just like Olympian athletes. You can impact your community and the world.   The Power of One!  The Center for Cultural Interchange is looking for host families for the 2012 -2013 academic school year. If you can’t host yourself we totally understand.  I’m hoping you can help me get the word out.  You can help make the lifelong dream of an international high school student come true, enrich the lives of your family and those in your community, and contribute in a significant way to global peace and understanding.  And – if you refer a family that is able to host, we’ll even pay YOU a $200 VISA card just to say Thank You!  So please!  Share this information!  Host families can live ANYWHERE in America (as long as the high school has space for the student). They can be couples with OR without children. They can be single individuals or single parents. The students come with their own spending money and health insurance.  They pay all school related and extra-curricular activity expenses also.

Host families are financially only required to pay the extra, minimal costs, associated with housing another person, such as utility bills and the increase in groceries. These are really great kids and with school fast approaching we need to get them placed.  There are boys and girls available from 30 different countries between the ages of 15 and 18 who are waiting to find out where they will be living and are planning to arrive late August/early September.  One of them might be a great fit!  We are also looking for Welcome Families.  Welcome Families host for 6 – 8 weeks and then the students are placed in their permanent home.  This way there is no long term commitment.  Many Welcome Families do fall in love with their student and choose to keep them but they are under NO obligation to do so.  For more information call Jennifer Tausworthe, 713-203-6556 or email jennifer4cci@aol.com.   Center for Cultural Interchange: The Greenheart of Cultural Exchange Established in 1985, Center for Cultural Interchange (CCI) is a non-profit international educational exchange organization dedicated to the promotion of cultural understanding, academic development, environmental consciousness and world peace. *Hosting Families are not paid.  This is regulated by the Department of State and is to ensure that hosting families are doing it for the right reasons.  There is however a monthly tax deduction that can be taken.

Your newsletter is provided 100% Free of charge to your HOA ... and is made possible by the advertisers within. Please frequent their businesses and let them know where you saw their advertisement. While there, be sure to say “Thanks!”
