ACIA HAPPENINGS Notice to all Active Military or Veterans By Jimmy Wells, President ACIA The ACIA will be having its annual “4th of July” parade from the Harris County Library to Incredible Delights (former Atascocita Country Club) on Saturday, June 30th starting at 9:00 AM. As a proud veteran I would like to extend an invitation to any veteran or active duty military person that would like to join in the parade so we can our own special group. This country was (and still is) based our beliefs in Freedom and in “GOD we Trust” which now seems as if those liberties are in jeopardy. It may be time the government remembers they are for the people not for the government and themselves only. Anyone that has served has a very clear understanding and is very proud of this country. I have seen veterans of all wars (or military/ police action) starting from WWII in our meetings. It would be nice to see a few veterans in the parade and once again stand up and show everyone we are proud to be “Americans”. Just think a hero can pass and no one notices, let a politician or actor pass and it is front page news days if not weeks. WHY? A FEW OF MY FAVORITE SAYINGS ARE

Freedom is not free. Some gave some. Some gave all.

Annual 4th of July Children’s Parade Prizes & Refreshments! The parade will start from the parking lot of the Atascocita Library at 10am, Saturday, June 30th. We start gathering for registration at 9am. Entry numbers will be assigned to all participants. The parade will proceed up Pinehurst Trails towards Incredible Delights (former country club) and end in the parking lot. Refreshments will be available at the end of the parade and trophies will be awarded at that time. We also need volunteers to assist with the parade. Anyone wishing to volunteer please email Jimmy Wells at jwellsacia@yahoo.com.

If you see a military person in uniform or veteran please say “THANK YOU”. Anyone interested my email address is jwellsacia@yahoo.com. God Bless America

SECURITY Kathryn Dahlin, trustee in charge of security for the ACIA, has established a Crime Watch Committee consisting of co-chairmen Ric Halbrook and Bob Garlington. These two gentlemen bring to these volunteer positions extensive experience in working with the Harris County Contract Deputy Program. Mr. Halbrook served as a trustee tasked with overseeing security for the Atascocita Forest Community Association for five years while Mr. Garlington served for twenty-five years as president and security coordinator for the Greengate Place Homeowners Association. Mr. Garlington also served as chairman of the 1960 Public Safety Alliance, a cooperative contract deputy program serving the security needs of multiple community associations in the Spring area.   Both men are thoroughly familiar with the Precinct Four Constable’s Contract Deputy Program and are also well acquainted with senior supervisory personnel within that department. “We want our deputies to know our residents and our residents (young and old) to know and trust our deputies. We look forward to working with our Precinct Four deputies to facilitate a community policing approach that is reminiscent of the old “cop on the beat” relationship.”

ACIA HAPPENINGS Lake Houston Sports & Recreation Foundation The Lake Houston Sports and Recreation Foundation, an organization formed to improve the economic, recreational and environmental health of the Lake Houston reservoir, will release 10,000 Florida-subspecies largemouth bass into Lake Houston. These bass were produced in a private hatchery and purchased by LHSRF. The fish will be the first fish stocked into the lake since 1998. To fund their projects, the group holds events including a fishing tournament, “poker run” boating event, golf tournament and other programs. The Florida-strain bass have the genetic predisposition to grow much larger than native bass and should be a boost to Lake Houston’s modest bass fishery. The LHSRF is working with Webb and Lone Star College toward creation of an aquatic plant nursery on lakeside  property. Emergent vegetation will be planted as soon as this  summer. The group is working to improve boating safety on the lake, pushing for marking of channels, shallow areas and other projects to make recreational boating more attractive.
