Flour power The duo behind Brick House Bakery and Café in East Dulwich are set to open a second branch in Peckham. Fergus and Sharmin Jackson founded their business five years ago from a lock-up on Barry Road near Peckham Rye Common. They launched the café and bakery just off Lordship Lane in 2015 and are set to open the Peckham space on Blenheim Grove in March. Brick House Bakery and Bar will serve early morning coffee to drink in or take away and an “all-day brunchy type menu” centred around food on toast. In the evenings it will offer small plates of food, natural wine, local beer and a few cocktails. “The food will follow the same feeling as the East Dulwich café – it’ll be very simple, generous and vibrant,” Sharmin said. “There’s a Californian and Mediterranean influence but it’s very British at heart – the inspiration will come from the ingredients themselves.” The bakery’s suppliers include Peckham-based butcher Flock and Herd and Moxon’s fishmonger on Lordship Lane. “We’re always interested in keeping it local and working with people we really respect in terms of how they select their produce,” Sharmin said. The company’s bread is baked at the East Dulwich site and will be delivered daily to SE15. “The backbone of the business is always the bread and everything else follows that,” Fergus said. “We have really good relationships with the millers who supply our flour.” The Peckham branch, which is on the corner of Station Way, has 22 covers and the interior will mirror the larger East Dulwich café, with its white

brick walls and birch ply woodwork. “Inside the aesthetic will be very similar to the space we have in East Dulwich,” said Fergus. “It will have a light and airy feel during the daytime and in the evenings it will be a bit cosier.” The pair live in Peckham and chose to open in

SE15 despite being offered spaces in north and east London. “We just love it here – it feels like home,” said Sharmin. “We like working with local businesses and employing local people – it’s a really important thing to us.”

“The business began in Peckham and we’re looking forward to bringing it to more people in the area,” added Fergus. “A lot of people know us already but others don’t, so we’re hoping the new space will mean that more people get to enjoy what we do.”

Standing out from the crowd At No-Flies we, like any of the estate agents you will find on the high street, offer a full estate agency sales service including valuation, escorted viewings, 24 hour feedback, negotiation of offers and sales progression. However we believe that we differ from high street agents in a number of fundamental respects: We offer a personalised service where you will, at all times, be dealing with the two directors of the firm who visit you to give you your valuation. We are grown ups who live locally, have had successful careers in other industries, have bought and sold our own houses and understand the frustrations that can arise. We do not believe in high street offices in a market where properties are most effectively and successfully advertised online. Because we do not have the overheads of our high street competitors we can offer you lower fees than they do. Visit our website to see client testimonials and our current and recently sold properties or give us a call if you would like to know more about us or to arrange a valuation.
