a great  GOT  DOTS  quilt-‐along

This is  a  great  project  that  will  use  up   even  the  smallest  of  scraps.    Come  join   us,  it’s  bound  to  be  a  fun  project  …   we  just  hope  you  don’t  go  “dotty.”

Part  two  of  the  great  GOT  DOTS  quilt  along  includes  templates  for  the  heart  blocks.    For   templates  for  the  ¾”  dots  used  in  this  block,  please  see  Part  1.         Use   your   favorite   method   of   appliqué   for   the   hearts.     I   use   needle-‐turn   appliqué   so   I   printed  the  heart  templates  on  freezer  paper  first  and  then  cut  out  all  the  templates.    Be   sure   to   cut   just   inside   the   black   line.     Press   the   templates   (shiny   side   of   the   freezer   paper  facing  downwards)  to  the  right  side  of  your  fabric.    Mark  around  the  heart  with   your  favorite  pen  or  pencil.    Then  appliqué  in  place  following  the  block  templates.      If   using  needle-‐turn,  be  sure  to  turn  your  marked  lines  completely  under  into  your  seam   allowance.     Templates  for  the  HEARTS  block  layout  are  also  included.    I  suggest  that  you  glue  this   template  to  a  piece  of  heavy  cardstock  or  a  piece  of  cereal  box  cardboard.    Cut  away  the   V  of  each  heart  and  the  inside  of  each  dot,  then  also  cut  along  the  outer  edge  of  the   template.      Use  this  sturdy  template  to  either  mark  your  background  with  a  pencil  or   wash-‐out  pen     Background  –  I  pre-‐cut  all  my  backgrounds  7”  /  18cm  square.    This  allows  for  a  little  bit   of  shrinkage  during  the  appliqué  and  room  to  trim  each  block  to  6-‐1/2”  (unfinished).

alternative Layout for a 6” finished block

The hearts in this block have been rotated so that the smaller hearts are along the sides of the block. I have included this layout to add a few surprises throughout the layout. Please note: if you are using this alternative layout, the side hearts extend slightly past the corner dots. In the grand scheme of the quilt this is not noticeable.
