Model Building



This portfolio contains the photographic documentation of a modeling process.

The research of interior and exterior space allowed me to study and analyze the emotions that were created as a result of the space. Whether an open aired space, an enclosed space or even a space within a space, each evoked a different emotional reaction. Thus leading to my understanding that architecture, by nature and that of mankind, impacts all senses.

The ergonomics of the human body give room for consideration to design. I studied the movement within a kitchen space.

This assignment introduced me to the importance of a site analysis and architectural design.

The process of model design…………….

Course Evaluation As a result of this Architectural Fundamentals course I have developed an appreciation for the importance of a site analysis. There was also a strong emphasis on designing for the client. A well developed and reviewed clientele questionnaire aids in the development of this process. When I entered this course my designing techniques was still being developed and although I feel that I have yet to commit to a design process that I can call my own, through a constructive critique I am pleased with the final product. My attention to detail and eagerness to improve on my model building craftsmanship was the bases for constructing a handcrafted model. This posed a few challenges as expected but in the end the design came together. I did well in the development of the interior space however the structural components gave me the greatest challenge. One which I have overcome with a sound understanding that model building is not in anyway to be solely based on the aesthetics of design but instead it it the structure which must be apparent. With my limited model building exposure my greatest challenge was materiality. I feel I gave too much emphasis on which material to use. Just as with other fundamental courses I have developed a process for model building in the field of Architectural Fundamentals and this was most rewarding. I look forward to entering the advanced design studio courses.
