• 1 (19.8 ounce) package brownie mix • 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed • 1 (3.9 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix • 1/2 cup water • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk • 1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed • 1 (1.5 ounce) bar chocolate candy

1. Prepare brownie mix according to package directions and cool completely. Cut into 1 inch squares.

2. In a large bowl, combine pudding mix, water and sweetened condensed milk. Mix until smooth, then fold in 8 ounces whipped topping until no streaks remain.

3. In a trifle bowl or glass serving dish, place half of the brownies, half of the pudding mixture and half of the 12 ounce container of whipped topping.

Repeat layers. Shave chocolate onto top layer for garnish. Refrigerate 8 hours before serving.

Carol Dawn Encke Age-74 a resident of Arcadia, FL for the last 28 years and formerly of Myakka City, Florida passed away on Monday December 17, 2018 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Carol was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Peace River Branch. She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and a few other volunteer charitable organizations in the Arcadia area. She enjoyed sewing, making crafts and most of all cuddling babies and spending time with her loving children and grandchildren.

She is survived by one son William James (Charity) Encke of Bradenton, FL. Two daughters Jennifer (David) Canar of Saratoga Springs, Utah and Lori Dawn (Brad) Bane of Newport News, VA; two brothers, Robert (Tommy) Carver of Kennewick, Washington and Richard (Jan) Carver of Boise, Idaho. Five sisters; Margene (Bob) Stratton of Everett, Washington; Theresa (Dan) Chavez of Penaca, Nevada; Christie (Irv) Smith of Mesa, Arizona; Virginia (Marty) Bicandi of Kuna, Idaho and Sylvia (Jerry) Hollenback of Grantsville, Utah. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday December 22, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home 50 North Hillsborough Avenue Arcadia, FL where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Joshua Creek Cemetery. Elvin J. Felty Sr., age 94, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in Port Charlotte, FL. Elvin was born June 20, 1924 in Branchdale, PA, moving to Desoto County in 1976. He moved to Port Charlotte, FL in 2003. Elvin was a veteran of World War II, retiring as a Master Sergeant with the US Army. He was a highly decorated serviceman, having served in the European Theatre of Operations, receiving three bronze stars during the Means Campaign, Army Meritorious Service ribbon with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct with three Knots, Meritorious Unit Commission Army, American Defense Ribbon, World War II Victory medal, Pre-Pearl Harbor ribbon, World War Occupation , National Defense Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with two “Hour Glass” devices, PA Commendation Medal, PA Meritorious Service Medals, PA Service Medal with three silver stars, twenty year service with two silver stars, the General Thomas White and General T. J. Stewart ribbons. Elvin was a race car enthusiast who, in his younger days built race cars. He enjoyed golfing and gardening. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W, and the D.A.V. Elvin was a former member of Pine Level United Methodist Church , Arcadia, FL, serving as Head Usher for many years.

Survivors are his beloved wife Mary Felty, Port Charlotte, FL, daughter, Debra F. Tate, Port charlotte, FL, sons; Elvin J. Felty Jr., Lebanon, PA, Gerald A. (Pat) Felty, Bradenton, FL, Bruce A. Felty, North Carolina, Dean A. Felty, Arcadia, FL, brother, Leroy (Betty) Ft. Myers, FL and one sister, Eleanor Lerch, New Port Richie, FL, eighteen grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. Elvin is preceded in death by his first wife, Fern Felty in 2003, his parents, John H. and Eva Mae Felty, and a brother, Albert Felty.

Visitation will be conducted from 2:00pm until 3:00pm, Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018 at the Grace Presbyterian Church, 10548 SW County Road 769 (Kings Highway), Lake Suzy, FL 34269 Funeral services will be at 3:00pm, at the Grace Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sammie Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery, Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018 at 1:30pm.

Charlene will be missed.

She was very involved in all of our lives… from siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, from naming our kids, to raising our kids.

Charlene is survived by the Love of Her Life George McIntosh. She will be greeted in Heaven by, her Mother Mary Ross, brothers Harry Ross, Robert Ross and James Ross, Ernest Ross, son George Ross and last but not least her daughters Gale Ross, Anita Ross.

The family of Charlene Ross wishes to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who will attend this service and those supporting us in our time of grief.

“THE STATUE”

Chapter 18 by Bumpy Thermos Dad shuts his book and looks at us. That’s it? Says my sister. Yes, dad says. You don’t like the ending? Well, I didn’t think it would turn out that way. I was sure that Bruce and Henry would stay friends and Bruce would have a family, says my sister. I did think about that, but in real time the gargoyle would out live the humans by about 10 times or so. Humans just can’t live with gargoyles. It just wouldn’t happen.

They live out in the woods and are always playing tricks on the humans. Do you think gargoyles are real dad? Asked my sister. Of course I do, he says. With time we tried to forget about the gargoyle story and about something moving down in basement that night. But, life went on for us. There were so many stories to remember anyway. A few weeks later when all was forgotten, my mom needed some computer work. She called Steve’s house and tried to get him but had to leave a message. Another day went by and still no Steve. So my mom asked dad if he would go over and check on him. They were pretty good friends. When we heard it was Steve, the computer guy, we were not going to let dad go by himself, so we both got in the car with dad and went over to Steve’s house. No one answered the door so dad went around to the back to look in the window to make sure he was ok. We were sure that something had happened to Steve and we were sure it was that statue of the gargoyle. When dad came walking back from around the house he had a strange look on his face. Dad what’s wrong, we asked. Oh nothing dad said. He is not here. There is no sign of him.

He left the back door open and he is gone. OK, now what? My sister and I both at the same time ask, was the statue in there? I didn’t think to look he said. Well lets go back and look, we said. Before he could say no, we jumped out and ran around the back of the house and went through the open back door. We looked in every room and every closet, looking for that statue. We didn’t even think about looking for Steve.

The gargoyle statue was what we wanted to see, but there was no sign of the statue, nothing. We were so sure the gargoyle had flown off with him, that’s what it had to be. What else could it be? None of us have seen Steve since. As far as we know, no one has reported him even missing. But for my sister and I, we know what happened. Weeks have gone by now and dad began writing another story. He is always trying to be more scary with the next one. Up until now, the scariest has been the statue story. Maybe it was because he brought home a statue and we were more involved this time, but it was the scariest. Then one morning dad walks in for breakfast and asked if anyone had heard of that boy born at 12 months instead of 9 months? They call him puppet boy, something to do with his head. Why dad? My sister asked. Well dad says, I just saw him yesterday at the cleaners. He looked just like a big baby doll with the largest blue eyes. It made me start thinking that my next story should be about a little boy, a little boy that never grew up. A little boy that was born a little different. One that turned out to be a monster. I will call him “Puppet Boy”…
