Township’s recording studio is NCEBA DLADLA IT has been only eight months in operation, but the Zonke Bonke recording studios in the metro is a professional recording studio of note. This professional recording studio at Indwe Street, Motherwell, Port Elizabeth abounds with talent. Its youthful management believes that through its operations the best of Nelson Mandela Bay music talent can be showcased to the national and international market. “We are the first recording studio to be built as well as to operate in the township and we pride ourselves with low cost recording rates in the business,” said Zonke Bonke Marketing Manager, Sakhele Mzalazala (30). This company boasts many wellknown as well as emerging artists from across the Eastern Cape who record their music there. An upbeat Mzalazala rattled off names like Christ’s Followers, a gospel group from Whittlesea near Queenstown, AKA, Nutty Fella, Laz Macaza, Lwandile, Phira Orongo, Questa and many more locals as groups that have made their music with them. These groups and individual stars were assisted by Zonke Bonke’s top class engineers such as Siya Som

thunzi who has also produced for the likes of local gospel diva, Zodwa Twecu, among others, said Mzalazala. Zonke Bonke’s Chief Executive Officer and engineer Bonke Bunu has worked with the likes of Fohloza, a successful all-women group from Uitenhage which has taken South African music by storm. “Our youngest engineer, Lunga ‘Mr Luu’ Rululu has extensive experience as a member, composer and producer for Point 5 the company that has done work for Professor of Le nto fame, Big Nuz and Tira,” said Mzalala. He added that this studio has been visited in recent times by the likes of Sliq Angel, Nombongo, DJ Lova and Andile B who were all impressed by what they can offer. With the assistance from local government Mzalazala believes Zonke Bonke recording studios could be competing with the best in the country. “We invite the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Arts and Culture Department to come and see what we have learned from Johannesburg and can offer to local artists,” said Mzalazala.
