Bombers bombed Progress SELBY MADIKANE PROGRESS Rugby Football Club’s dreams of lifting the Eastern Province Rugby Union’s Presidential Cup were shattered when African Bombers beat them 32 - 11 in the semi-finals of the tournament. Even though Progress really took the game to Bombers, they just soaked up the pressure. Progress scrum-half, Boela Abrahams put his side in the lead 3 - 0 after having been awarded a penalty. The Bombers’ hard work paid dividends when fly-half, Masixole Banda managed to take a penalty kick from a long distance to level the score at 3 - 3. Progress answered with taking the lead 6 - 3 when Abrahams took a successful penal-

ty. Bombers cut short the joy of their opponent when the sure-footed Banda put another penalty through the posts bringing the score to 6 - 6. Bombers flank forward, Thembelani Bholi, scored two tries in quick succession while Banda converted one. Progress was kept at bay until the half-time whistle. In the early stages of the second half, Progress scored an unconverted try courtesy of full-back, Ashwin Oelse to decrease their deficit to 18 11. It appeared as if Bombers was provoked by its opponent’s try. Two late Bombers tries were scored by centres Sizwe Twani and Milo Ngqoro respectively, to book their place in the finals. In the other semi-final match, United Barbarians comfortably beat Kruisfontein with a fulltime score of 21 - 16.
