Welcome to the 2018 Edition of the HTA Charolais & Guest Bull Sale. We are very proud of the quality throughout our bull pen and want you to buy with confidence. The bull pen is culled hard to offer you quality, functional, performance bulls. We know that every bull we sell may not work in everyone’s herd, but we do believe that we can help you find the ones that will work in your operation. We stand behind our bulls and want to do all we can to ensure you are happy with your purchase. We are trying hard to build a low maintenance herd without losing performance or downsizing our cows. We only keep vigorous calves that are born unassisted and we cull hard on feet, structure and disposition. Disposition is a main focus for safety reasons. We have two young children and want them to be safe amongst the animals at all times. If we do not trust the animals, they are removed from the herd. There are no second chances at HTA. I (Shawn) try to remind Tanya of this all the time (lol). When choosing your next bull, we urge you to look at the additional information provided, not just their birthweight. Note we have also
provided the age of the dam and birthweight as a percentage of the dam’s weight. Please accept this as your invitation to come to the farm anytime to walk through the pens and analyze the herd for yourself. You are welcome to join us in Neepawa the evening prior to the sale at the Ag Complex to look through the bulls. We look forward to visiting with you. Be sure to come early sale day to choose your bull and be our guests for lunch. If you are unable to attend the sale, DLMS will again be on-site broadcasting the sale live to allow you to watch and bid online. Please watch our website for videos of the bulls. A selection of the bulls are being tested for being homozygous polled. Results will be available prior to and at the sale. Welcome to the HTA Charolais and Rammer Charolais bull sale. Once again this year, you will find the best in performance, meat and hair of any sale. The consistency is very strong and there is something that will fit everyone’s tastes and needs. They have some bulls that are suited for your heifers, but they also have bulls that won’t cause any problems calving but will give you as much pay weight in the fall as you can get anywhere. Their many repeat customers, who sell heavy weight calves, are a testament to how their programs have provided bulls to not only the commercial industry, but many great purebred herds across the country and into the U.S. Both these operations make their living in agriculture and are committed long term to the cattle business. The cowherds backing this offering ensures that the consistency of the breeding ability of the bulls will be there for you to rely on in your own calf crop. Seeing these cows raising big calves on grass shows how much performance and
milk is bred into them. Both are second generation Charolais breeders and are active on the provincial and national Charolais boards. They both have young families that are right into the cows as well, and it is great to see the next generation so interested in being a part of the farm. This past fall, the premium for the Charcross calf was as obvious as ever and with the added pounds you will get from these performance bulls, especially in a crossbreeding program, it will be dollars in your pocket. They are fed free choice hay and developed on an oat and corn based, balanced ration focused on proper development and sound feet and legs. Welcome to the 2018 HTA Charolais & Guest Bull Sale! It is our pleasure to welcome you to the 2018 HTA Charolais & Guest Bull Sale. I said it last year and I will say it again, I can not believe it is time to write this again. Where is time going? Life is definitely not standing still for our family. Claire is now in grade 3 and her passion for cattle is unprecedented. She is still continuing to learn guitar and is loving hockey. Like her Grandpa, she is a pretty strong defenseman. Myra is now in grade 1. She is enjoying hockey and skating comes so easily for her. Myra really enjoys riding her pony and helping out on the farm. Both girls had so much fun attending the National Charolais Show in Brandon this past fall and are looking forward to CCYA in July. Claire and Myra are also now members of the McConnell 4H Beef Club. Emily is in daycare full time and is the most easy going baby I know. She must take after her Dad since this is definitely not a trait from her mother! Her little personality is starting to come out, so this year could be an interesting one. I started back to work full time in August. I am a grain buyer for Cargill at Oakner. That has added its own challenges, but everyone is now getting into a pretty good routine. With this, I don’t get to spend as much time as I would like on the farm. I was extremely impressed when we headed out to picture the bulls this past weekend. When I don’t see them every day, I seem to notice a lot more then I probably would. We have an impressive selection of bulls to offer you this year, with a variety of birth weights and traits that will fit into any operation. We are still seeing the premium for the Charolais influence at the auction marts, so adding a bull like one of these to your herd makes sense. This year, we have sons out of our main herdsire, HTA Toledo. They will add vigor, growth and pounds to any operation. We are also seeing the first calf crop out of our new herdsire HRJ Canadian Gold. He is a son out of the famous Sparrows Kingston. We are very impressed with the first crop and look forward to many more with this bull. We are also keeping some of his daughters, so you will see his genetics continue in our herd. As always, we welcome and encourage you to come out to the ranch and have a look through our operation. We are proud of what we have accomplished with the purebred herd and the direction we have decided to take. We are always continuing to strive to bring to you, our valued customers, the best bulls that we can. Terms & Conditions Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made. Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final. Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made. Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk. Breeder Guarantee - Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported HTA CHAROLAIS 2018 BULL SALE
in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. Exception Guarantee: In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and representations. Insurance: Insurance will be available sale day. Pictures: By attending the sale you are granting permission for your picture to be used for promotional and advertising purposes relating to the sale.
