As always, we strive to offer functional, quality, performance based bulls that have calving ease built in. We have some new sire groups that we think you will find very appeasing. Please look through the Reference Sire pages to get to know the genetics. You are sure to be impressed. As I write this on January 30th , we are over 70% done calving and just wrapping up the first cycle and calving is front of mind. Since Tanya and I took over the herd, we have stood by our one strike rule. If you don’t fit in our guidelines, you are gone. This is how we believe you build a low maintenance herd. We don’t have time to help calves and this is the reason we cull so hard. A bull will not be offered in our sale if it needed assistance at birth (out of a cow), or if it needed help standing or sucking. We invite you to come let us give you a tour of our pens anytime. We are very proud of the advancements we are making in our herd. You are welcome to join us at the Ag Complex in Neepawa the day prior to the sale to look through the bulls. Be sure to come early sale day to be our guest for lunch. If you are unable to attend the sale, we would be happy to help you make arrangements for purchasing a bull. DLMS will again be onsite broadcasting the sale live to allow you to watch and/or bid online. Feel free to view the bulls and enjoy some pre-sale hospitality Tuesday night at the sale facility, or come early Wednesday to choose your bull and join us for lunch. For decades the HTA and Rammer name have been prevalent in the Manitoba and further afield Charolais Industry. Both these operations make their living in agriculture and are committed long term to the cattle business. Between purebreds and commercials, they are calving over 500 females this spring. The cowherds backing this offering ensures that the consistency of the breeding ability of the bulls will be there for you to rely on in your own calf crop. Seeing these cows raising big calves on grass shows how much performance and milk is bred into them. Both are second generation Charolais breeders and are active on the provincial and national Charolais boards. They both have young families that are right into the cows as well and it is great to see the next generation so interested with desire to be a part of the farm. They have some bulls that are suited for your heifers, but they also have bulls that won’t cause any problems calving, but will give you as much pay weight in the fall as you can get anywhere. Their many repeat customers, who sell heavy weight calves, are a testament to how their programs have provided bulls to not only the commercial industry, but many great purebred herds across the country and into the US. Did You Know? We weigh all of our cows the beginning of June as we process them for pasture. We do this to provide our customers with the birthweight as a % of dam calculation. We feel looking at the size of the cow is important when looking at birthweight. 100 lb calf out of a 1900 lb, 10 year old cow is different than a 100 lb calf out of a 1400 lb, two-year old cow.

1. An average cow of any breed should be able to calve 7% of her body weight. 2. Most Charolais cows will weigh between 1400-1800 lb., expected calf weight to range from 98 to 126 lb. 3. Most Red Angus cows will weigh between 12-1600 lb, expected calf weight range 84 to 112 lb. 4. Calving ease is MORE important than birth weight because a longer sided calf may calve easy, but the birth weight is higher.

Calves are given Toltrazuril at approx 1 week of age, Pyramid FP 5, Vision 8 Somnus, Ivermectin going onto to pasture, Pyramid FP 5, Vision 8 Somnus and Ivermectin at weaning. Cows are given Ivermectin going on to pasture and Pyramid FP 5 and Scourguard prior to calving. We feel nutrition is an important part of herd health. As part of our nutrition program, we use the Blueprint mineral program for our herd which includes Winter, Breeder and Summer mineral formulations.

Astroid is a bull we raised out of a 12 year old Dam of Distinction who is the maternal sister to HTA Scorpio 874U (Rawes Ranches) and HTA Bradack 137Y (Sandan Charolais). Astroid ranked #1 at weaning and at yearling and his disposition is unmatched. His muscle shape and growth could not be ignored. Astroid calved like a dream with an early gestation and exceptional vigor in his calves. In fact, he calved so well we decided to breed him to half the heifer pen in 2018 with no regrets. With almost all the heifers calved out, so far he is 100% unassisted. Astroid’s calving ease and the growth are impressive and the docility that he passes to his offspring is something you almost have to see to believe. To top it all off, he is Homozygous Polled and Leptin TT. He’s the total package and needless to say, we are very excited about this sire’s progeny.

The Lanza pedigree needs no introduction. Lanza worked well in our program. In fact, our 2018 high selling bull was sired by Lanza. When we saw this Lanza son at Weinbender’s, he definitely caught our interest. Once we saw High Class’s dam, we were sold. Just the type of cow we like, deep, good footed and good uddered. the Manitoba Charolais Board. Matthew is the Charolais Representative for Manitoba Ag Ex and I am proud to share that this year, he is receiving an award at the Royal Winter Fair for his contribution to Ag Ex over the last two years. I am still working full time as a grain buyer for Cargill. This year marks my 9th year with the company. People always ask me, wow, how do you do it, working full time, farming, 3 kids, etc. I simply smile and say, you just get on with it and try and have as much fun as you can along the way! I am now a leader for the McConnell 4H Beef club, and also the secretary for the Strathclair Rink Management Committee. I have recently been asked to be a voice for women in agriculture so will see if my schedule allows me to pursue that. Claire is now in Grade 4. She is on the Atom Girls hockey team in Hamiota and recently signed up for an extended girls league in March. She is still playing defence like her Grandpa Wayne. Cattle and horses are Claire’s passion. She is already extremely excited for CCYA in Weyburn which is great to see.
Welcome to the 2019 HTA Charolais & Guest Bull Sale! It is our pleasure to welcome you to the 2019 HTA Charolais & Guest Bull Sale. Firstly, we would like to sincerely thank all our existing and new bull buyers that have placed trust in our program. Rammer Charolais is not a new name in the industry, but Matthew and I are continuously learning about what we like and the direction we want to take our herd. Secondly, we would like to thank Shawn, Tanya, Chase and Blake for continuing to let us consign to their bull sale. We have nothing but the upmost respect and admiration for this family. Truth be told, we are one big family! They work hard and we share a lot of the same principles when it comes to selling bulls and the experience that you, the customer has. We are very proud of the bulls we have selected this year. As you can see, we only catalogued 9 bulls to ensure that we are bringing you the very best of our bull pen. We cull hard! Disposition, structure, feet and overall quality are what we look for and remove in both our bull and heifer pen on a regular basis.
Myra is in Grade 2 and like her sister loves all things cattle and horses. She is on the Novice hockey team in Strathclair and learning to play Guitar. Myra likes to be kept busy and is one of the hardest workers when it comes to chores. Both girls are members of the McConnell 4H Beef Club. Claire is the treasurer for the club and learning some life skills, which is fantastic. Claire and Myra are both taking a bred heifer and Charolais influence steer to achievement on June 10th. Emily is now 2 and attending daycare full time. She has her spot in the tractor with her dad when we do chores and is definitely a daddy’s girl through and through. Playing farm in the basement is one of her favorite things to do with her older sisters. Please accept this as your invitation to come and preview our bulls on Tuesday, March 19th, in Neepawa and enjoy some hospitality. Also, come early on sale day for lunch and a visit with fellow people in the industry. We will be offering some refreshments after the sale, so we hope you can stick around to have a visit with us.
This year’s bull pen consists of sons from Canadian Gold, Toledo, Conrad and Ledger. We both love what we are seeing from Canadian Gold in both the bull and heifer pen. Moderate birth weights with tonnes of growth. He is turning into a staple for our herd. Don’t take our word, come to the ranch anytime and have a tour. Not only do we have purebred Charolais but we also operate a 250 cow/calf commercial herd. Life is busy but we would not have it any other way!

TERMS & CONDITIONS Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made. Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final. Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made. Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk. Breeder Guarantee – Bulls: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove
a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and representations. Insurance: Insurance will be available sale day. Pictures: By attending the sale you are granting permission for your picture to be used for promotional and advertising purposes relating to the sale.
