“Amber Cove” officially inaugurated Tourism Minister euphoric / Three Billion Dollars annually from Dominicans living abroad
President Danilo Medina officially inaugurated the new cruise port “Amber Cove” in Maimón on the 2nd of November. Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García, said that this was a holiday for Puerto Plata, because the project will have a great impact not only for Puerto Plata, but for the whole north coast. In the port itself there are 430 direct jobs and in the first year 300,000 cruise
The next arrivals in “Amber Cove” Maimón November, 22 Queen Mary 2 November, 24 Carnival Splendor November, 26 Carnival Victory December, 1 Eurodam December, 5 Azura December, 10 Carnival Victory December, 11 AIDAvita December, 21 Carnival Valor December, 22 Carnival Splendor December, 28 Carnival Glory December, 29 Carnival Sunshine December, 30 Azura December, 31 Costa Deliziosa
tourists are expected, with the hope that this number is exceeded. In the first year, due to the new destination for cruise ships “Amber Cove”, the Dominican Republic will have 80 per cent more cruise tourists. In the second year it will be 150 percent more, “and I do not dare to make a prediction for the third year,” said the Tourism Minister, “because every specified number could be less than what is going to happen.”
The senator of the province Monte Cristi, Heinz Vieluf Cabrera, chairman of the Commission of the Dominicans living abroad, announced at a meeting with Foreign Minister Andrés Navarro that the Dominicans living abroad annually send more than three billion dollars home to their families (the so called “remesas”). The reason for the meeting was a planned project, Index (Institute for Dominicans abroad), which is to be approved by the Senate in this legislative period. This project aims to help expatriate Dominicans if they want to invest in their home country. Vieluf advised these persons to go the ways prescribed by law to avoid being cheated.
Amazing Story of “Air Cocaïne” Pilots flee the Country / Only 31 Percent of Candidates capable of teaching Children
It was a spectacular case in 2013, when the Dominican police stopped a business aircraft Falcon 50 at the airport in Punta Cana after information from the United States and 26 wallets with a total of 680 kilos of cocaine were found in it. Four Frenchmen, including the two pilots, were arrested. They got 15 months pre-trial detention in a high security prison and were convicted to 20 years imprisonment in August of this year. After they appealed against the sentence they were released and could move freely until the appeal trial, on the condition not to leave the country.
But around the 18th of October, the two pilots Pascal Fauret and Bruno Odos were taken out of the country by a command and brought to France. The shock and indignation in the Dominican Republic were huge. How was it possible for a foreign command to get foreigners out of the country? Soon there were details, mainly published by the French newspaper “Le Monde”. Accordingly, the two pilots fled with the support of the French foreign intelligence service DGSE. Coordinator of the escape was the deputy of the extreme right-wing party National Front (FN), Aymeric Chauprade, who according to “Le Monde” was a Special Adviser to the Dominican President Leonel Fernández between 2009 and 2012. Also one of the boatmen in the rescue operation (photo left, man in the middle) has been identified as a member of the FN: Peter Malinowski, assistant of the FN party leader Jean-Marie Le Pen. Meanwhile, the two pilots were arrested in France in order to be interrogated. The Dominican Republic requested their extradition, which France rejects.
To improve the quality of teaching, the contenders who want to work as a teacher first have to pass an audit, according to an agreement from the educational pact of April 1, 2014. Now the eleventh test was held at 18 regional offices, attended by 36,884 aspirants of different categories from 22 universities in the country. The startling result was that only 11,479 of the applicants (31 per cent) passed the examination, while 25,405 of the candidates failed. Overall, 49,789 applicants applied to participate for the exams, of which 40,842 were approved. 3,958 of them did not even show up at the audit.
Weekend of Elections New Presidents for Haiti, Guatemala and Argentina / Comedian will govern Guatemala October 25 was the election day in three countries of the continent. In Guatemala, where the runoff election was held, and in Argentina and Haiti. In Guatemala the 46year-old comedian Jimmy Morales won the runoff election against former Primera Dama Sandra Torres with 67.43 percent of the vote. Jimmy Morales will be the tenth President of Guatemala in the “democratic era” after the military dictatorship (1985) and will rule the country from the 14th of January 2016 for four years. Jimmy Morales was elected in the first place, because the population of Guatemala was tired of the old, corrupt political caste. So Morales promised in his first speech after his election that he would counter corruption in Guatemala frontally.
In Argentina, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner could not compete for reelection and therefore she supported her party colleague Daniel Scioli. At a high turnout, Scioli won narrowly with his party Frente para la Victoria (Front for Victory) in the first ballot with just 37.08 percent of the vote against challenger Mauricio Macri of the Party Cambiemos (Let's change) who got 34.15 percent of the vote. This is the first time in the history of Argentina that a second ballot becomes necessary, which will take place on the 22nd of November. The Argentine society is deeply divided between the supporters of the president, who is accused of obstinacy and stubbornness by her adversaries, for example, in dealing with international banks where Argentina is deeply in debt, and the followers of neo-liberalism, who want to fight against government control and redistribution of wealth, which was one of the main goals of president Cristina Fernández. Even within the party Front for Victory there is controversy, because Florencio Randazzo feels betrayed by the president, because she has chosen Scioli to be her candidate. Maurcio Macri is an entrepreneur and declared follower of neo-liberalism. He currently is governor of the capital Buenos Aires. President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner called on voters to defend her ideology, so that not everything that has been done for the poor of the country during her tenure will be undone by the neoliberals.
In Haiti the second round of senatorial and local elections and the first round of presidential elections took place. After the first round on the 9th of August 9, with a complete chaos and ten dead, the ballot of on the 25th October was well organized and peaceful, according to the Haitian authorities as well as the numerous international observers. The head of the Haitian police, Godson Orelus, reported 234 arrests of persons who wanted to disrupt the electoral process, 13 firearms were confiscated. The election could not take place in eight polling stations in the north as bandits stole the ballots. The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), which counted the votes, said that prior to the completion of the counting there will be no information on trends, which of the candidatees is leading. Shortly before the deadline, the results of the election were announced by the CEP. Accordingly, the candidate of the ruling party PHTK, Jovenel Moïse (photo), got 32.81 percent of the vote. He will compete with Jude Célestin in the runoff election on the 27th of December who got 25.27 percent of the vote. Célestin is the candidate of the party of former president René Préval. Shortly before the publication of the results there were protests of eight of the candidates, including the runoff candidate Jude Célestin, who spoke of massive electoral fraud and called for an independent commission to investigate their allegations.
Notice of Termination What Rights and Obligations have to be observed by Worker and Employer giving Notice? In Article 75 of the Labor Code of the Dominican Republic (Código de Trabajo) notice of termination (desahucio) is defined as: “The act by which one party is exercising the right against the other to terminate the employment contract by a notice and without stating the reasons.” The termination may be executed by both, the employer and the employee. If it is done the employee, generally it is said, “renunció”, “puso su renuncia” or “abandonó”. If it is done by the employer, the term used by the employee usually is “me cancelaron”, “me liquidaron”, or the employer says, “lo liquidé”. The words “renuncia”, “cancelación”, “liquidación” and “abandono” do not exist in the Labour Code. These are words that are often used by personnel managers, employers and employees, trade unionists and even by lawyers, and obviously refer to the word “desahucio” (termination) which is used by the law. “Desahucio” is not the same as “despido” (dismissal) or “dimisión” (work stoppage on the part of the employee).
2. The party which exercises the “desahucio” is not obliged to specify a reason why he is exercising this right, which means that no one who terminates the employment contract by a “desahucio” must specify his reasons. 3. The one who is using the right of termination this way, has to inform the other in advance.
What are the characteristic elements of “desahucio”? The characteristic elements of “desahucio” are the following:
• He is not entitled to get severance payments.
1. It is a right that can be exercised by both sides, by the employee as well as by the employer.
If an employee “quits” (ejerce el desahucio), what rights has he and what rights doesn't he have? In this case, the employee is entitled only to the following rights: • Christmas bonus to be demanded after the 20th of December. • proportion of the compensation to be demanded after 120 days of completion of the financial year of the company, if it generated gains. • annual vacation if the employee has worked more than a year and did not take it yet.
• He must continue to work during the notice period or pay the time he is absent. If the employee is “dismissed” (the employer is using his right of “desahucio”),
what rights has he and what rights doesn't he have? In this case, the employee has all the rights enshrined in the law, for which he is entitled in the cases of termination of an employment contract, which are: • The notice: The employer can comply with the period of notice in which he will pay wages to the employee, when he works during the notice period. In the opposite case he must pay the period of notice at once, without the employee providing his services. In this case, according to the juridical term, the notice no longer is a “period of time”, but a “compensation” (indemnización). • severance pay (Auxilio de Cesantía). • annual vacation or share of the holidays with more than five months and less than one year. • Christmas bonus to be demanded after the 20th of December. • proportion of the compensation to be demanded after 120 days of completion of the financial year of the company, if it generated gains.
No End of Dengue More than one Hundred Victims / National Campaign / Treatment too sophisticated The advisor to the Pan American Health Organization (Spanish abbreviation: OPS, Englisch: PAHO) and author of a guidebook on how to deal with dengue, Anabelle Alfaro, said after an investigation, the treatment of these patients in the country is both economically and clinically unsustainable. She said, there is no need for specialists for infectious medicine or intensive care to deal with dengue, as this disease can be as well treated by general physicians.
The doctor from Costa Rica said she comes to the Dominican Republic very often, and every time she is sad that it has been impossible to reduce the high mortality rate of dengue due to problems of management. “I know of no other country where they are as challenging in the treatment of dengue as here, where they have raised it up to the infectology. I respect the infectologists and the experts for intensive care, but they should be in charge for complicated things. Most of the cases we have treated with general practitioners, supported by internists and paediatricians. Alfaro said that many countries managed to reduce the mortality rate of dengue, even very poor Honduras, thanks to decentralization and training of doctors and patient monitoring. The diagnosis and treatment of dengue is simple and there is no need for high-tech, said the specialist, but here everything is made complicated. Alfaro said, health services only have to be well organized, because when there is an outbreak or an epidemic of dengue there always is elevated pressure.
With a national campaign against dengue, the government sought to stop the current epidemic early November, as this year already more than one hundred people have died of this disease. The focus was Greater Santo Domingo, where half of the dengue cases have been reported. Health Minister Altagracia GuzmĂĄn Marcelino visited various houses where she checked vessels in which water accumulates, and told the residents how the breeding grounds of the mosquito that transmits dengue can be eradicated. Thousands of volunteers roamed the city streets for two days, sprayed insecticides and distributed leaflets. However, for example the neighborhood committee Montesinos lamented the poor knowledge of the activists who came to this place, with virtually nothing in their hands.

Return of “Sweet Micky”
Enrique Iglesias Save the Children
Haiti's outgoing president Michel Martelly announced, that after his handing-over of office in February, he will resume his interrupted career as “Sweet Micky”. This was the artist's name when the Haitian president was a star of the Kompas music. On the 7th of February 2016, Michel Martelly will pass the presidency of Haiti to his successor, who will be elected in the runoff on the 27th of December 2015. “My career is over, I do not need power, I just want that what I have started will be continued,” Martelly said in a statement to the media. “I will not cooperate with Moïse when he is president. Everyone knows that I have my own career.” Martelly said he was confident that the winner of the elections will be the candidate of his party, the Haitian Party of the Cleanshaven Heads (PHTK - Parti Haïtien Tèt Kale), Jovenel Moïse. The “Kanaval” in Haiti, the carnival parades, one of the great events of the country, will be held on the 8th and 9th of February. Like most of the popular Kompas bands, also Michel Martelly aka “Sweet Micky” will perform in these parades with his new Carnival hit.
Last May, the Spanish superstar Enrique Iglesias caught a drone that was flying over the stage in a concert in Tijuana in Mexico. By holding the drone, the propeller injured his right hand. With his blood he drew a heart on his white T-shirt. After the injury, which needed reconstructive surgery of the hand, the organizers wanted to cancel the concert, but Enrique Iglesias went on singing for half an hour and ended the concert regularly. This blood-stained shirt was now taken as a model to manufacture the so-called “Heart T-Shirts”, which are sold to raise funds for the Foundation “Save the Children”, a global network of nonprofit organisations supporting local partners. The shirts are sold at the concerts of Enrique Iglesias and over the internet at a price of 27 dollars, of which 12 dollars will go directly to the largest children's rights organization in the world, which was founded in 1919 in London. Save the Children runs projects for children in need and their families in 120 countries. The aim of the organization is that every child can grow up free from hunger, poverty and violence. Enrique Iglesias says, “I am extremely moved to join Save the Children in order to help the children who most need it. I give my heart for all children around the world who experienced humanitarian crises and had to rebuild their lives from scratch again.” He was sure that the sale of the Heart T-shirts will help to save lives and provide relief to children in need. Last year, Save the Children helped a total of five million children in 103 humanitarian crises, such as in the Syrian refugee camps.
In an interview with the TV-presenter Colombia Alcántara in the program “El Especial”, the Salsa star Michel “el Buenón” told of his childhood with tears in his eyes. He said he had been abandoned by his mother after giving birth, and she wanted to abort him before. “I should not be born.” In the morning when he was born, there could be heard screams in the street and an abandoned crying baby was found on a garbage dump. He said, his mother had been a victim herself, that is why he do not blame her. She was 13 years old when she became pregnant, and therefore was thrown out of the house of her family. He was adopted by his grandmother and lived with her until he was seven years old. Then he left the village of Tamayo in the province of Barahona and made his way to Santo Domingo, where he survived in the streets at the age of seven. From small, Michel loved to sing, with five years he sang in the church choir in the church of his grandmother, and later in bars and restaurants in Santo Domingo until he found a job on cruise ships between Martinique, Guadeloupe and Guyana. After he played Merengue with Johnny Ventura, Michel started his own Salsa band, with which he is very successful till this day.
What are these Guys singing? “Deja tu envidia” by Vakeró feat. Kunin An angry reckoning with those who envy the success of others, made by the successful Vakero and his brother Kunin. Oyeme bien. Deja tu envidia. El diablo te va llevar. Deja tu envidia. Deja el bla bla bla. Deja tu envidia. Deja de hablar. Deja tu envidia. Deja de molestar. Deja tu envidia. Que a ti te duele mas. Deja tu envidia. Ver progresar. Deja tu envidia. Al que te dejó atrás. Deja tu envidia. Oyeme bien. Deja tu envidia …
I know well that you are suffering, that is why you hit on me. Because I have what you don't have, and that annoys you. You are a palooka and live from the other, you have nothing. You must be crazy. Stop talking about me, Devil's boy, don't eat your boogers. On the bank they say to me, Hello, Mr. Money, you want some coffee? How can we help you? And you on the street, fighting hard, talking shit, garbage face. Listen to me carefully. Stop your envy. The devil will get you. Stop your envy. Stop the Bla Bla Bla. Stop your envy. Stop talking. Stop your envy. Stop to harass. Stop your envy. It only hurts you more. Stop your envy. To see moving forward who has left you behind. Stop your envy. You do not even have enough to eat, and you want to come to harass. You enjoy talking about the people. Sleaze bag, we are not interested in you. Trujillo, come to see this shit-eater, who feels bothered because I give it to his chick, as if this was something from another planet. She will come to your house with ass and with tits. Get away with your stench of envy. You are filled with hatred, it can be seen in the belly. You're always interested in my life. Miserable wretch of the devil, leave me alone with your envy. You do not even have enough to eat ... Listen to me carefully. Stop your envy ... What kind of pain the envious has to feel that progress came to me, and not the prison cell. The envious is an admirer, but in secret. The envious you'll find anywhere. The envious is talking about me behind my back, because my presence causes panic in him. The envious does not accept that you are successful, everyone who does it well will be envied. You do not even have enough to eat, you are filled with hatred, stop harassing …
Kunin is the younger brother of Vakeró, one of the most successful singers of the Música urbana. Since 2007, Kunin sang in the choir of his brother for four years, but now he wants to start his own career. After a break in Italy he came back to the Dominican Republic in 2012. With the featured song, which he sings in cooperation with Vakeró again, says Kunin, he has found his own style. He just realized that to achieve your goals, you must work with perseverance and persistance. His lyrics are clean, says Kunin, and the music is to the taste of a huge audience. Manuel Varet Marte (Vakeró, LA PLAYA No. 26) recently was acquitted from the accusation of his ex-wife Martha Heredia for domestic violence against her for lack of evidence.
On the first day after the divorce he sadly packed his things in boxes. On the second day the moving company picked up his things. On the third day he came to clean up. He went into every room and put a couple sardines from a can in each of the curtain rods. Then he left the house. On the fourth day his ex-wife moved in with her new partner. Then the house slowly started to smell. They tried everything. The carpets were steam cleaned, in each room they hung air fresheners. Finally, the exterminator put traps and fumigated the house from the attic to the cellar room. At the end, the carpet was torn out, and since this did not help either, the two lovers moved to a hotel because they could not stand the stench in the house any more. As the stench became unbearable, the woman decided to sell the house. But even after a halving of the price they found no buyers. After half a year, the man called his ex-wife and told her he missed the house so much and offered her to buy it at a favorable price if she accepted to reduce his maintenance obligations in return. In the assumption that he had no idea of the stench, she said, she will sell him the house for one tenth of the value when signs the sales contract immediately. Within less than two hours all the paperwork at the notary was done. A week later, the ex-wife and her new partner watched in amusement when the moving company took their belongings out of the house. They even took the curtain rods along.

A completely drunk staggers at a shooting gallery at the annual fair. He takes a gun, raises it to his shoulder, shoots and hits the mark. As a prize he gets a small turtle, with which he walks away. After half an hour the drunk guy is back again without the turtle. He takes a gun again, shoots again, wins a turtle again, and walks away with it. When he comes back for the third time and wins again, the owner of the stall asks him, “The turtles are finished, what do you want instead of them?” The drunk guy replies: “Anything, but not another one of these hard to bite fish sandwiches!”

Finally the two carpet layers finished their work in the large living room. They admire their handiwork and notice that the new carpeting still has a bump in the middle. „That's my cigarettes,“ says one of the workers. „Before we rip out the whole carpet, we better tramp it down.“ No sooner said than done. When the lady of the house comes in, she says friendly, „I made you a coffee. And one of you forgot his cigarettes in the kitchen. Oh, by the way, has anyone seen the hamster of my daughter?“
