Zika Cases are increasing Study excludes Transmission via Trophoblast / Already 17 Children have died of Dengue Doctor Rafael Mena, chairman of Andeclip (National Association of Private Hospitals), said, that in the private health centers, the number of patients with the symptoms of Zika has increased. Most of the children infected with Zika come with fever, headache, red eyes and red, itchy spots on the skin. To date, 911 cases of Zika were registered, including 68 of pregnant women who need to be monitored more closely. Of the Zika patients at least 15 suspected cases of the Guillain-Barre syndrome have been reported. Meanwhile, in a study it was found that the Zika virus is not transmitted to the fetus via the trophoblast, as it had been suspected. The trophoblast is a group of cells, which releases nutrients to the embryo. “The trophoblast is the first line of defense of the

fetus against everything that passes to it from the mother's blood, said Yoel Sadovsky, one of the authors of the study. But it can not be excluded that the virus comes to the fetus in other ways. Zika is suspected that it can trigger birth defects like microcephaly, which is not yet proven definitely. With all the Zika hysteria, a much more serious issue is almost overseen: Dengue, which is transmitted by the same mosquito. In the first three months of the year, the number of dengue cases has risen sharply compared to last year. Until the tenth week of the year there have been 2,843 cases, compared to 1,166 in the previous year. And already 18 have died, 17 of them were children aged from six months to 14 years.
