51-year-old Leonel Homer Peralta is one of the few remaining people who earn their livelihood by selling international magazines and other print products in the times of the Internet. For 40 years, the man from Cabarete is on the way to supply tourists or residents in Puerto Plata, Playa Dorada, Sosúa and Cabarete with current magazines and newspapers from home.

He says his customers of course today are not as numerous as in previous years any more. He thinks that this is not as much because of the dramatic drop in visitors to the north coast in the past years, as more due to the flood of information on the Internet, where everyone can get information about everything at any time. But Leonel assures that there still are many readers who prefer to hold a newspaper or a magazine in their hands, where they can turn over the pages. Leonel is proud that he has regular readers from countries all over the world, such as Canada, the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain or Sweden and Norway. If Leonel cannot be found somewhere in the streets, he attends his customers in two small shops - in Sosúa at Med-Tur and in Cabarete at Freddy-Tour. When asked what the customers think about LA PLAYA, which he also offers in his wide range of magazines, Leonel says, “They love the classified ads because often someone is looking for an apartment for himself or his visitor, or they say that the news are very interesting because in the international publications rarely something is written about the Dominican Republic.”

15-year-old Nick Hardt again showed his extraordinary class at the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Youth Tennis (JITIC U16) at the National Tennis Center in Parque del Este in Santo Domingo. In the final, the promising young tennis player from Sosúa defeated his opponent from Guatemala, Christopher Vleeming, with 7-5 and 6-3. In the doubles, Hardt reached the finals with his partner José Oscar Díaz, where they had to abandon the field after being defeated by Kevin Hernández and Christopher Vleeming from Guatemala with 6-4 and 6-1. Nick Hardt is considered one of the best tennis players in his age bracket worldwide and is training at the Tennis Club Playa Chiquita in Sosúa. He is the reigning national champion in his age group in the Dominican Republic and the number one in the Davis Cup team U16 of the country.
