WELCOME! Welcome to the 23rd Annual Conference of the Professional BusinessWomen of California. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we thank you for taking your valuable time to join us for an inspirational day of networking and learning. This year’s theme is Connect. Innovate. Inspire. Our goal is to help you connect with experts who can advance your career, identify ways to reach your maximum potential and inspire you to lead an impactful life. Today we’ll hear from some of the most provocative and sought-after thought leaders across the country. This year’s keynote speakers, which include Founder of The Daily Beast, Tina Brown; Senior Vice President of IBM’s Global Business Services, Bridget Van Kralingen; Hewlett-Packard’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Cathie Lesjak; Secretary General of the Council of Women World Leaders, Laura Liswood; and New York Times best-selling Author, Gretchen Rubin will share how they’ve overcome challenges across many industries. In keeping with our mission to develop and advance our next generation of leaders, PBWC is excited to once again offer the Young Women’s Summit. Our host is Actor, Filmmaker and Advocate Jennifer Siebel Newsom of Miss Representation. This year’s featured speaker is Author, Self-Esteem Expert and Contributing Editor at Seventeen magazine, Jess Weiner. We’ve designed this targeted program, produced in collaboration with Girls for a Change and Girl Scouts of Northern California, to guide high school seniors and college students as they prepare for their futures. Our young leaders will participate in workshops led by influential women and arm themselves with the tools to navigate what lies ahead in their professional lives. We hope you’ll continue your professional journey with us after the conference by becoming an active member of our community. PBWC President and Board Chair Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Charles Schwab Bank René is the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Charles Schwab Bank. In addition, she is the Charles Schwab & Co liaison to Schwab Charitable donor-advised fund. René began her tenure at Schwab in April 1999 and has 25 years experience in the financial services industry. René joined the Professional BusinessWomen of California Board in 2008 and currently serves as the Board Chair. In this role, she leads the organization in developing strategies and the future direction of the organization.

NICOLE SOLURI

PBWC Board Vice Chair Chief Counsel, California State Lottery Nicole was recently appointed Chief Counsel to the California State Lottery. Prior to that, she was an Attorney with Downey Brand LLP, focusing on corporate and securities matters. Before joining Downey Brand, Nicole was with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, PC in Palo Alto. While at WSGR, Nicole was the received the John Wilson Award for outstanding pro bono legal service. In addition, Nicole is also on the board of the Sacramento Children’s Home. She received a B.A. from Santa Clara University and a J.D. from the UC Davis School of Law.

PBWC Board Secretary Senior Financial Advisor, Bank of America Merrill Lynch Hallie serves a select group of clients within the Global Wealth Management Division of Merrill Lynch. In addition to her current role, she is the President of the Merrill Lynch Women’s Exchange, East Bay Chapter.

PBWC Board Treasurer; Executive Vice President of Middle Market Banking and International Finance, Comerica Bank Judy has held a variety of management positions at Comerica since 1982, including President of Comerica Securities, Senior Vice President of Investor Relations, Treasury, Controller, and Real Estate. She has served as the chair of the board for Inforum Center for Leadership in Michigan, chair of Comerica’s Women’s Initiative, and was recognized as one of the “100 Most Influential Women” in Detroit and the Bay Area.

U.S. CONGRESSWOMAN JACKIE SPEIER

12th Congressional District Emerita Board Member and PBWC Founder Jackie Speier has lived her entire life inside CA’s 12th Congressional District, which she has represented in Congress since April 2008.  She serves on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the House Armed Services Committee. She is also a member of her party’s leadership team as Senior Whip, working within the Democratic caucus to push issues that will create jobs and strengthen the middle class.

PBWC Director-at-Large Partner and President, Peppercom West Coast Operations The immediate past board chair for PBWC, Ann is a partner and West Coast President for Peppercom Strategic Communications. She and her team work with clients to create and execute communications programs that differentiate companies and help them effectively engage their most important audiences. Ann is also the leader of GreenPepper, Peppercom’s cleantech and sustainability business. In 2012, she was named “PR Professional of the Year” by PR News, and is on the San Francisco Business Times list of “Forever Influential Women.”

PBWC Director-At-Large Vice President, Customer Services Management, Oracle Corporation At Oracle, Mary Ann leads a Customer Management team serving Oracle’s Global 100 Customers. Mary Ann began her career at Oracle in 1997 and has held positions in Business Development and Alliances. She has over 20 years of experience in sales, business development, alliances and customer management primarily in the high-tech industry.

PBWC Emerita Board Member Floral Design and Organizational Development Consultant As founding President of the Professional Business Women of California while she served as the District Director for then-Assemblywoman Jackie Speier, Judy also served as Executive Director of Resourceful Women, Director of Employer Services at Jewish Vocational Service, and Development Officer/Director of Imprint Giving at the Jewish Community Endowment Fund. Judy retired from full-time employment at the end of 2010 and now enjoys studying Hebrew, traveling, volunteering on community boards, working with flowers, and spending time with her family.

PBWC Director-at-Large Senior Vice President, Wells Fargo Bank With 27 years in the financial services industry, Stacy heads a strategy and implementation team focused on mid-to-senior leader agility, effectiveness, engagement, and diversity inclusion across multi-disciplined lines of business in Community Banking. Stacy spent 18 years prior with the International Group and in 1999 was selected to lead the creation of the Foreign Exchange Online channel, the first product on the Commercial Electronic Office®. Stacy is an active member of the Harvard Kennedy School Women’s Leadership Board. She is the former chair of the Wells Fargo International Group Diversity Council and a graduate of the University of Illinois.

PBWC Director-at-Large Vice President - Operations, State Farm Insurance Companies Shirley has held numerous operations leadership positions at State Farm Insurance for over 38 years. She is responsible for State Farm California’s Auto Operations, servicing 3.46 million policies, and leads its Computing and Process Solutions and Priorities Departments. Shirley serves on the board of the United Way of Kern County and is an Executive Advisory Council Member of Leadership California.

PBWC Director-At-Large Chairman, Wijit, Inc; Managing Director, American River Ventures A serial entrepreneur, John is chairman of Wijit, Inc., an early stage medical device company and is a Co-founder and Managing Director of American River Ventures, an SRI venture capital fund located in Sacramento. John has served on the boards of many venture financed companies. Prior to founding American River Ventures, John held senior technical and marketing positions with IBM, Tandem, and Boeing Computer Services. He is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University.

PBWC Director-At-Large Chief Innovation and Operating Officer, Continuum Lara is the Chief Innovation and Operating Officer at Continuum, a global innovation and design firm partnering with clients to discover powerful ideas and realize them as products, services and experiences that improve lives and drive business. With over 20 years experience delivering organic growth and transformational change for leading brands around the world, Lara was named a “Master of Innovation” by BusinessWeek in 2006. Previously, she headed Harley-Davidson’s Enthusiast Services division of experience-based businesses and online platforms. She is past chair of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

PBWC Director-At-Large Vice President Sales-Cumulus Media; (KGO-KSFO-KNBR-KFOG-KSAN) Deidra oversees the company’s sales operations which include five radio stations and broadcast sales for The San Francisco Giants, 49ers and Golden State Warriors. Before being named Vice President of Sales, she was the President and General Manager of KGO and KSFO. She served on the board for the Society of Television and Radio, participated in the Women Inspiring Women in Radio Mildred Carter Mentoring program and currently is on the Executive Committee for the Northern California Broadcasters Association. Deidra was recognized as one of the “Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business” by the San Francisco Business Times in 2011.

PBWC Executive Director Debi brings more than 25 years of executive experience to PBWC, specializing in strategy, marketing, and business development. Debi joined PBWC as Executive Director in September of 2011. Prior to joining PBWC, Debi served as Senior Vice President at Bank of America where she led one of the largest retail markets for the bank. Debi has also held various leadership and strategy roles at Wells Fargo Bank, PepsiCo and Sara Lee.

Jennifer Siebel Newsom is a Filmmaker, Speaker, Actor, and Advocate for women, girls, and their families. Newsom wrote, directed, and produced the 2011 Sundance documentary Miss Representation which explores how the media’s misrepresentations of women contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence. Newsom launched MissRepresentation.org, a call-to-action campaign that gives women and girls the tools to realize their full potential. Newsom is an Executive Producer of the 2012 Sundance Award-winning documentary The Invisible War and is currently in pre-production on her next film. Newsom is also the Founder and CEO of Girls Club Entertainment, LLC, which develops and produces independent films that empower women. As an actor, Newsom appeared in films and television shows including In the Valley of Elah, Something’s Gotta Give, NBC’s Life, and Mad Men. Newsom currently serves as a board member of KQED; a member of the Girl Scouts Healthy MEdia: Commission for Positive Images of Women and Girls; an advisory board member of Emerge America; and an honorary board member of the International Museum of Women. Newsom graduated with honors from both Stanford University and Stanford Graduate School of Business. Newsom resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, and their two young children.

She participates in a local OWL community and supports ‘Pay It Forward’ programs that encourage giving and volunteering in our local area. She supports young women in the community through Girl Scouts, the Boys and Girls Clubs, and the PBWC Young Women’s Program and Scholarship Committee.

KIMBERLY CURTIN SENTOVICH

Senior Vice President, Pacific Division, Walmart Under Kimberly’s leadership, Walmart’s Pacific Division charitable contributions totaled more than $55 million in 2010. Kim serves on the Walmart Foundation’s California State Giving Council, where she focuses efforts to fund much needed community programs. She serves on the Orange County Board for Girls, Inc., Homeboys Industries and Dress for Success boards, and participates in the President’s Global Council of Women Leaders. She also served on the boards of LINC Housing Corporation; National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; and Glass Slipper Guild at the Orange County Children’s Hospital.

Managing Director, Diversity & Inclusion, Charles Schwab As Managing Director, Cathy integrates diversity and inclusion best practices within leadership and employee development, workforce planning, talent pipeline development, and Employee Resource Group programs. Cathy continually supports internal and external programs that connect, mentor and advance women and diverse communities. She personally continues to serve diverse communities and further the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the Board of Directors for The Friends of the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women and as Chairperson of the Northern California Industry Liaison Group.

Senior Vice President, Wells Fargo Tracy Curtis has been a mentor to many women and has helped them flourish in their careers during her 24 years at Wells Fargo. She does this by teaching young women that they can do anything they set their minds to - and that they should not let anyone tell them differently. Tracy’s belief is that women are different, and many of us have a different leadership and management style that can be more inclusive, more collaborative, and is still strong and focused.

BRIDGET VAN KRALINGEN

Senior Vice President, IBM Global Business Services Bridget has worldwide responsibility for Global Business Services (GBS).
