Dear ____: Once again this year I am participating in the American Heart and Stroke Association’s Heart Walk at Tanglewood, walking in memory of my daughter, Sara. Sara was diagnosed in 1998 at Brenner Children’s Hospital with cardiac arrhythmia and received a pacemaker. Two years later, she developed cardiomyopathy and was placed on the list for a heart transplant. Sara died in April of 2001 while waiting for her “new heart.” In the Fall of 2001 our family began participating together with Sara’s classmates from Summit School in the Heart Walk, walking in memory of Sara. We are partnering again with Summit and with the Children’s Heart Program at Brenner Children’s Hospital and their “Little Hearts” program, which honors the children who have battled congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, or cardiac arrhythmia.
