Emergency Management Training for First Responders 24th January 2011
Introduction: The Emergency Management Training for First Responders is designed to give participants the necessary skills and understanding of the issues and concepts surrounding emergency management. The growing number of disasters in recent years has placed the field of emergency management in the spotlight. This programme addresses all phases of emergency management: the social and environmental processes that generate hazards, hazard and vulnerability analysis, hazard mitigation, emergency response, disaster recovery, and emergency planning. You'll gain a solid understanding of emergency management principles and practices.
Course Objectives: By the end of the course participants should be able to; • React eﬀectively to threats from the environment • Assemble an emergency planning team, motivate the team members, and train the team • Protect lives in the initial steps of hazard detection, warning, evacuation, and sheltering • Identify the major categories of disasters • Assess risk and vulnerability and identify hazards • Apply appropriate mitigation tools and techniques to reduce vulnerability

Target audience: This programme is for anyone who would like to learn the skills needed for emergency management. This workshop is ideal for the Workplace, Teachers, Personal Trainers and Fitness Staff, Camp Counselors, Security Guards, Parents.
Course Facilitator: Dr. Abdul Ali is one of the founding Directors of the pioneer Academy of Paramedical Sciences at Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences. He is a Clinical Emergency Medicine Specialist and formerly the Head and Chief Coordinator of Trauma & Emergency for over 10 years at the University of Malaya Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur. He has over 22 years experience in developing and teaching the MBBS undergraduate Emergency Medicine Programme at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. He had also helped to develop various Advanced Trauma Resuscitation Courses, Disaster Management and EMS Programmes for various EMS Agencies in the country. He has contributed to books and journals and is a frequent presenter at many Universities, States, National and International EMS Conferences.

Course Venue: CUCMS Main Campus.
Course Timing: Registration starts at 0830 hours and ends at 1700 hours. Lunch & refreshments will be provided.
