Pharmacy Compounding and Sterile Preparations 25th - 26th April 2011
Introduction: Pharmacy Assistants/Technicians work with Pharmacists in drug preparations, distribution and management in a variety of health care settings. One of the most crucial responsibilities of pharmacy personnel is the proper preparation of parenteral medications. It is extremely important that all parenteral medications are prepared in a manner that reduces the possibility of contamination.
Course Objectives: By the end of the course participants should be able to; • Prepare medications of diﬀerent kinds, including mixing and measuring, packaging and labeling. • Mix and create customised medications to suit patients' specific needs.
Course Outline: • Guidelines for sterile preparations • Sterile preparation formulation Course Outline: • Equipment for compounding sterile preparations • Handling, compounding and disposal of cytotoxic and hazardous drugs • Labeling sterile preparations • Handling of sterile commercial products and preparations within the pharmacy • Compounding and sterilization of batch preparations • Preventing occupational exposures to antineoplastic and other hazardous drugs in the healthcare setting • Sterile pharmaceutical and batch compounding documentation • Aseptic preparation procedures including proper gowning and gloving technique • Aseptic hand washing technique • Preparation of aseptic work area
• Collection and introduction of supply items into aseptic work area • Ampule preparation for hazardous drugs • Vial preparation for hazardous drugs
Target audience: Clinic or Pharmacy Assistants, Sales or Store Assistants.
Course Facilitator: En. Ahmad Rashidi bin Mohamed Tahir is the Head of Pharmaceutics Department, Faculty of Pharmacy CUCMS. He received his Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Pharmacy from UKM respectively. En. Rashidi started his career as a pharmacist at the Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah, Muar Johor. He is a registered Pharmacist with Pharmacy Board of Malaysia (RPh). Prior to joining CUCMS, he was a faculty member at the Masterskill University College of Health Sciences. Currently, he is one of the Coordinators for BPharm & MBBS, Disaster & Relief Medicine (DRM) and Young Mercy (YM).

Course Timing: Registration starts at 0830 hours and ends at 1700 hours. Lunch & refreshments will be provided.
