PawPrints Magazine's HOMELESS COVER MODELS Who would have ever thought that four priceless jewels waited to be discovered at New Hanover County Animal Control? Hi, my name is Tiffany (A238434) and I’m the kitten pictured at left. I’m one of four adorable 8-week-old babies up for adoption at Animal Control. My two brothers, Jasper (A238437) and Jett (A238435), are pictured on the cover. Jasper is the orange and white one, and Jett is the Tabby. Pictured directly below me here is my sister, Krystal (A238433). We had fun exploring this jewelry box, but we think we outshine every other gem! We are orphans who were discovered under a house, and we’re hoping our future families are reading this. Don’t worry, you don’t have to adopt all four of us, you can adopt just one. Call New Hanover County Animal Control at 910-798-7500 for more information. And, if by chance we’re adopted when you call, don’t worry, there are plenty of other beautiful kittens up for adoption. We’d also like to thank Mr. Dick Parrott for taking our photos. The best treasures in the world come from animal shelters!

Do Himalayans make you happy? Well, I happen to be a homeless Himalayan. Maybe we could be a match! My name is Precious and I’m a gorgeous girl who is waiting for a family at The Sound Cat Veterinary Hospital. You see, the hospital took me in when my family moved overseas. I was facing a quarantine period over there, so my folks decided I could find a new family much quicker if I stayed in the U.S. I’m a playful, lively girl who enjoys catnip and toys. I’m friendly to everyone I meet and like to be held and petted. I am accustomed to using a scratching pad and am already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. The nice folks here even gave me a dental - my teeth look great! I’m 12-years-old, as healthy as can be, and am always curious and ready to meet visitors at my cage. I’ve got a lot of life in me and a lot of wonderful memories to make. I do think I’d be happiest in a home with older children or adults only. To meet me, or for more information on adopting me, please call The Sound Cat at 910-686-0131. I am sponsored by Ruby and Netop. Thanks!
My name is Dallas and I am wonderful! I get along well with other dogs and kids. I was at Animal Control and...same old story... they ran out of room and I ran out of time. I walk well on a leash, am housetrained, and very loveable. I am very people oriented and eager to please. I can jump a 4-foot fence, so a bigger fence is necessary. However, all I do is come around and sit at the front door waiting for my foster parents to pay more attention to me. I want to be with my people, not stuck in the back yard! I would make a great family pet even for people who’ve never had a dog before. Special thanks to Patrick Ledbetter (and his mom) for buying me some more time so I can be around to meet YOU! If you would like to know more about me or would like to inquire about the adoption process, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557. I am sponsored by NCBeachBargains.com in honor of Rik and Trista Vandevenne. Thank you!

URGENT, URGENT!! I’m Running Out of Time! I appeared in the magazine last month, but must have been overlooked. How could a beauty like me be passed by? I have one brown eye and one blue eye, and if you’d like to view me in color, please visit the PawPrints website at www.PawPrintsMagazine.com. You can flip through the magazine online and see me! My name is Harley (23486) and I’m a 1-year-old girl who was found as a stray. Notice my smile? It reflects my friendly, happy, loving personality. I’m a medium-sized girl, not very big, and they think I may be an Australian Shepherd mix. I already know how to sit on command for treats and I will skip around the room with a toy in my mouth - it’s guaranteed to make you smile! They tell me I’m simply adorable and that my homelessness is a mystery. Won’t you turn my sad story into a happy one by adopting me? Please call Brunswick County Animal Services at 910-754-8204 for driving directions or for more info on me!

Hi! My name is Thor. I’m a pure-white kitty who found my foster parents this past winter. They brought me to the doctor and had me neutered and I was given a clean bill of health. I absolutely love people, big or small. I am very sweet, playful, and love to be petted. My foster dad says that I’m more like a dog. I like to follow him around where ever he goes. Here’s the catch. My foster parents won’t let me come in the house because I don’t get along with their other kitties. I don’t like to share my humans with other cats. But I love being inside. If you would like a one-cat household, I think I would be the purrfect addition to your family. I would love to find a home where I could stay inside and follow you around forever. Please call my foster parents at 910-619-1192.

My name is Roscoe and I’m one of the most wonderful dogs you’ll ever find. I’m a 2-year-old, Border Collie mix who is already neutered and vaccinated. I’m a very healthy boy who tested negative for heartworms (and I take heartworm prevention to keep me that way). I’m also house-trained and leash-trained. I know how to “sit” and “shake” on command and I’m good with kids, cats, and other dogs. I’m submissive to other dogs and even let them take my food but I can hold my own when playing with them. I have good house manners and I won’t tear stuff up, but if you’re not careful, I will try and sneak out of the front door. My new family will need to keep me safe and should have a fenced yard for me to go out and play in. I’m a really good dog who will be a great friend to anyone. At 40 pounds, not only am I good looking - I’m smart, too! I am excellent at listening and learning new tricks or commands. Heck, I might even like to try agility training. Would you open your home to a teddy bear like me? If you would like to know more about me or if you would like to give me the loving, forever home that I deserve, please call Furever Friends at 910-383-2100 (Monday through Friday between 8am-6pm). I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Insurance Agency in loving memory of Dingo.
Wow, things could have worked out so differently for me! My name is Gabby and, once upon a time, I was spending my days and nights inside a cage at Animal Control. For some reason, I was overlooked by potential adopters and my days at the shelter - and on this earth were growing shorter. Then, just in the nick of time, a volunteer from Cat Adoption Team visited , took one look at my sweet face and whisked me away into a foster home. Whew! Thank goodness for people like that, right? Now I’m here, hoping you’ll see what she saw - a friendly girl who would bring great joy to someone for the rest of their life. I love to be held and I love to purr, especially when humans hold me close. I’m a short-haired, orange and white girl who is spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I’m great with cats and other kids, but I’m not so crazy about dogs. Who knows, though, once I have time to acclimate to one I may be just fine. If you’d like us to meet, come visit me at Petsmart in Wilmington or call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014. I won’t disappoint you! I am sponsored by Phoenix Rising Agency, Inc.
I’m CoCo MoonPie and I’m a female Boxer mix who is 8-years-old. Six years ago, I was found wandering on Highway 17 by a kind lady who scooped me up and rescued me. I’ve been living at Paw’s Place ever since! Please, won’t someone take a chance on me and bring me home? I’m a truly wonderful girl. I enjoy chew toys and being around other dogs and people. I’m so very sweet - I love giving lots of delicious doggie kisses. If you have a 6-foot fenced in yard and a cat-free home, I hereby promise to be your loyal, loving, lifetime buddy. To find out more, or if you need driving directions, please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297. Let’s get to know one another, OK? I am sponsored by Christine Watkins of A Pet Nanny.

I’ve been living here since February 8, 2010! You don’t know what sad is until you’ve spent Valentine’s Day as a homeless dog in an animal shelter. It’s especially sad for someone as humanfriendly and affectionate as me. My name is Bertha (CF2107) and I’m a Newfoundland/ Retriever mix with a gentle, loving soul. I was dropped off at Animal Control by my owners when they decided to move away. I came with another canine buddy who has since been adopted. It was sad for me to lose my friend, but it does show you that I get along well with other doggies. I’m a very quiet and loving girl who walks well on a leash. I’m a bit overweight, but I’m sure some regular strolls with my new family will restore my girlish figure. It’s not easy to get exercise when you’re sitting in a kennel, you know! Won’t you please come out and see me? I’m such a beautiful girl, and I’d be so happy to meet you. Call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196 for directions or more information. I’ll have cuddles and hugs saved just for you! I am sponsored by Francesca Slaughter in loving memory of Casper and Lucy.

Hi there! My name is Jessie and I'm a 3-year-old female Shepherd mix. I have a sorta sad story, but am hoping that someone will give me the happy ending I deserve! I was adopted from Pender County Humane Society when I was a young puppy, but was recently returned when the other dog in my family started fighting with me. Since he had been in the house longer, my family decided I had to leave. I'm still kind of frightened by this new environment, but I warm up quickly to new people and new doggie friends. Once I know someone, I'm super-cuddly and love to give hugs. And here’s more great news: I'm house-trained, leash-trained, spayed and current on my vaccinations. I’m gorgeous, too! Please come get to know me. Call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and they’ll tell you how we can come face-to-face! I am sponsored by www.TheKarmaFund.org, thanks!

Brighten up your life with me - my name is Sunshine! My orange and white fur is as bright as the sun but, don’t worry, it won’t hurt your eyes to stare at me. In fact, it’s just the opposite. I’m so beautiful you’ll find yourself gazing at me again and again! I’m a very loving and sweet girl who is looking for a great home. At just 2-yearsold, I have a very ‘sunny’ disposition and I love to be petted and cuddled. I’ve also been to the vet for a check-up and received a clean bill of health. I am spayed, vaccinated and litterboxtrained. And yes, I get along great with the other kitties here at the shelter. If you come visit, you’ll probably find me sprawled out on the floor, as laid-back and mellow as can be. Please call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and let’s get that adoption process going. I am sponsored by Cindy Meyers in loving memory of Harley and Murphy.
Adopt-An-ANGEL Please call 910-392-0557 to adopt us! ►What in the world is going on? I have been looking for a home for months now! I love to be held, so be sure to take me out of my cage for some cuddling. My name is Skitty and I’m a 4-year-old black and white, spayed girl with an affectionate and playful personality. I was once part of a family but they moved away. I’m good with children and am used to living as an indooronly kitty. I’d prefer to be the only cat in the home, please. I love people and am a sweetheart. Let’s go! ►My name is Holly and I am a doll! I was rescued from alongside the road where some MEAN person probably dumped me. The lady who rescued me tried to keep me, but her other dog was too jealous and kept beating me up. I am very good with submissive dogs, cats and even kids. I am a quiet, laid back dog who wants nothing more than to lay at your feet next to you while you watch TV or work on the computer. I am SO sweet and very smart. I would make a great family pet. I am a little hard of hearing, like to sleep with a night light and prefer not to be locked inside small rooms. So what if I have a few quirks! My foster mom LOVES me and says I am a keeper if she didn't already have so many. ◄My name is Matilda. I’m looking for a wonderful, forever home! (Inside only, please) I’m about 6-monthsold, spayed, have all my shots and tested negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV! I am a drop dead gorgeous Calico! I will carry my toy with me so I can entertain myself if I feel the need to bounce around and play. Everyone tells me I am so much fun! Although I’m a dainty little princess, I can hold my own when playing with the other kitties. I am always willing to strike a pose for my subjects and the camera, and am especially fond of lounging Cleopatra style. No, I’m not shy about showing my pretty white tummy. I’m a girl who wants to have fun! Please adopt me and treat me like the princess I am. We can rule the world together! You may contact my foster mom directly at 910-762-7295.
►My name is Haley and I am a very nice dog. I was turned in to the shelter for not getting along with the kids. I would be best suited for an adult-only home as an only pet. I am gentle, loving, loyal and protective as most Shepherds are. Look how alert I am in this picture. I am spayed, heartworm negative, up to date on all shots. I am housetrained and walk well on a leash. Special thanks to Patrick Ledbetter for sponsoring my adoption! Thank you to Steve Goler and the Wilmington Singles' Net for holding a Poker Tournament on behalf of Adopt-An-ANGEL! ►My name is Lucky and I am kind of shy, but will warm up to you quickly if you give me some TLC. And when I do warm up, watch out because I will become super cuddly. I was adopted and then returned for not getting along with another dog. I probably would do best in a home where I am the only one and I can be SPOILED! Special thanks to Garrett Ledbetter for sponsoring my adoption fee at Animal Control! I am little, weighing in around a mere 30 pounds. I would make the perfect little apartment dog. We are so thankful for the generous donation from Hope From Helen! Our vet bills generally run from $3000-$4500 monthly and we are always in dire need of help. ►My name is Hi-Fi and I was recently rescued from Animal Control where I had run out of time. What that means is that I was scheduled to be euthanized, but fortunately Adopt-An-ANGEL had a little extra space to take me in. I would like to thank them and also Cheryl Sanford for making a donation in honor of her dad's birthday and sponsoring my adoption fee! Happy Birthday Tommy Sanford! I am so glad you are another year older because that has sure helped me out. On top of running out of time, I had the bum luck of testing positive for heartworms so now I am undergoing heartworm treatment, which is a costly procedure. Luckily there are good animal lovers out there like the Sanford’s to help pay for all of this. I am a sweet boy who is energetic and fun. I like to play and romp. I would make a great pet for an active family, full of kids with a fenced in yard.

Brunswick County Animal Services Please call 910-754-8204 to adopt us! ►Petite, affectionate, and very pretty - that describes me perfectly! My name is Mo (24073) and I’m a 1-year-old Tabby girl who was found on the beach at Oak Island. My new friends at the shelter say that I adore being brushed. I’ll sit there happily while you groom me and make me look even prettier! I also love to be held, kissed and cuddled. Would you hop in the car and come meet me soon? I promise to love you for the rest of my days - adopt me and you’ll see! ◄Hi friends, my name is Marlin (23392)! Aren’t I adorable? I have the most expressive, friendly face and I think my perky ears set it off nicely! I’m a 1-year-old male Lab mix who loves toys and is very happy and playful. I’m puppy-like, but not hyper. I take treats gently and I kiss the crumbs from your fingers. I’d love a home with adults only or with older kids and I’m happy to say that I’m heartworm free. I have the softest fur and the sweetest personality. Come on over and fall in love with me! ►Excellent Family Dog! That’s what I’m trying to tell everyone when they meet me. You see, I’m a girl who is friendly as can be and I love to be rubbed and hugged. I could see myself sharing a home with a young family, a single person, or even a retired couple - I would be great for anyone! My name is Colbie (24897) and I am playful, curious and very happy. I’m also just 7-months-old, so there are lots of adventures and fun times to be had once I’m adopted. Let’s start today!
◄Scruffy Dog Alert! Hi there, my name is Annabelle (25291) and I have the cutest, scruffiest face and body you’ve ever seen! My brown eyes will melt your heart on the spot. It’s hard to believe that a beautiful blonde bombshell like myself was found on the streets as a stray, but that’s the straight scoop. I’m a very friendly girl who loves to meet new people. You’ll discover that for yourself when you come visit me. In the playroom, my tail just wags and wags as you rub me and I look up at you adoringly. I’m on the thin side right now from my time on the streets, but I’m sure to blossom with good food and lots of love in my new home. ►I was so happy to get out of my kennel for a walk and a photo opportunity! My name is Brandy (24475) and I’m a 4-year-old Beagle/Bluetick Hound mix girl. My smile spread from ear to ear as I got lots of hugs and attention from my new friends. They were very sad to put me back inside and are hoping a PawPrints reader will fall in love with my beautiful face. I’m gentle, loving, friendly and ready to be your girl. ►Come cuddle me! My name is Speckle (24668) and I’m a darling girl who enjoys receiving attention from humans - especially when they hug and kiss me. At just 1-year-old, I was found as a stray. That means I have lots of wonderful memories to make with a new family! I have a gorgeous spotted coat - perhaps I am mixed with Dalmatian? I am playful, happy, and looking forward to meeting you.

Hi, my name is Cliff, and I’m a 5-year-old Lab. I’m what you would call a Leg Hound. Yep, you heard right. I just enjoy long walks with a companion. And when I’m not walking, I’m hard at work with training. It’s going pretty good, too. I’ve learned a number of things, like sit, fetch, and my all time favorite - shaking hands. Yep, the trainers here at the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program at Pender Correctional Institution say I’m pretty good, too. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks! So if you’re looking for a dog who’ll stick by your side and show you a new trick or two, I’m your guy. To adopt me, visit www.montyshome.org or call 910-262-3055. Hello, I’m Elvin, and I am a very cute 7-month-old puppy. As of now, however, I am staying at the Pender Correctional Institution and it’s not what you think. I swear to you I didn’t do anything wrong. Let me explain. I was rescued by a very nice dog lover who happens to own “Monty’s Home” and they are in the business of saving doggie’s lives. I am a very smart puppy. I am being trained by an inmate on how to be responsible. Don’t tell him this, but we really train each other. I’ve already, in just a couple of weeks, learned several commands. There is one command that my trainer didn’t need to teach me, I already knew it. And that is how to love. And I would like very much to get a chance to love you. I am a very wonderful dog who needs someone to love me and take care of me. Please don’t let me down, all I want is a place I can call my home with people to love me. To adopt me, visit www.montyshome.org or call 910-262-3055. Written for Elvin by his inmate trainer Phillip B. Elvin is sponsored by Pam Thomason: “For Mr Ce Ce, you always made me laugh and sing.”
Cape Fear House Rabbit Society Please call 910-471-7854 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to adopt us! ►Hi! I’m Jenny, the multi-colored Rex rabbit, and my friend here is Eli. We are a couple of very loving bunnies looking for a new home. Eli may look very docile laying here, but just walk by him and he is standing up looking cute as can be hoping for a treat or some petting. I’ll bet you can’t resist his cute face! And if you are in the mood for some bunny petting, one stroke of my soft fur and you will think you are in heaven. We love exercise and will need room to run and play. We will definitely entertain you with our dancing! Please consider us if you are looking for a bunny companion or two. ◄I’m Thumper. My family is looking for a home for me where I will get out to play more than I do now. I am a mediumsized, neutered, male bunny. I am friendly, playful, energetic and especially love my play toys and my daily veggie treats. My fur is a beautiful mixed brown color and my ears are too funny. They just do not want to either stand up straight or flop down. I do not like to be held but love being petted, especially when you sit on the floor with some parsley in your hand! I can dance and would love to entertain you with my bunny binkies, which must be seen to be believed. Please come meet me. ►Hello. My name is Ingrid. I’m a 6 pound tan and white mini-lop who was rescued at the eleventh hour from euthanasia in Raleigh. I was having some issues in my foster home, but a spay and a quiet environment took care of that and I am now a loving, friendly bunny, ready for my forever home. I do not see or hear very well, which makes me take a little longer to warm up to folks than normal, but woo me with some parsley and I will be your friend forever! I love head and ear rubs. I am still nervous about large open spaces but we are working on that, so I will need a home that is rabbit-savvy and will be patient with me.
◄My name is Belle, you know, as in Belle of the Ball! That’s me – a big, beautiful bun who would love to meet you. I am 3years-old and have a very positive outlook in spite of my difficult life. I lived outside, and was eventually turned loose to fend for myself. I get along well with dogs and cats. I actually try to boss them when I can, which would not make me a good bunny for a child. I have a lot of personality and can certainly be the diva in your life! I weigh about 6 pounds, am litterbox-trained, spayed, love playing with my toys and eating my green salads. To adopt me, please call today or visit www.capefearrabbits.org to view more adoptable rabbits. ►Hi, my name is Triscuit! I’m a tiny little neutered male bunny rabbit, not even two pounds, but ready for a better life than I’ve had so far. I’ve tried college life, but that was not for me. In fact, I’ve spent most of my young life being scared. Here in my foster home, I’m learning there is lots of fun to be had when there are no dogs barking at me and no one trying to pick me up all the time. I can run around and dance and eat hay in my litterbox and I even let my foster mom pet me the other day. It was pretty cool – I will let her try again! I really like it here, but I need a home of my own...a nice, quiet home, with mature adults who will treat me gently and in return I will always use my litterbox and give them lots of bunny dances and funny moments.

Where Are They Now? Cookie Queen (now known as Mallie Boom Boom) and Maxamillian - September 2009 “Chihuahua Lovers, WHERE ARE YOU?” That was the heading printed above the photo of Cookie Queen and Maxamillian in the September 2009 issue of PawPrints. The two 10-year-olds had been living at the New Hanover Humane Society ever since their owner died in June. One Chihuahua lover, Donna Nelson, happened to be vacationing in Wilmington when the duo made their third appearance in the magazine. As a result, the Chihuahuas are now cherished members of a newly formed family in Greensboro, NC. Here, Donna explains how she came to meet the pair, and how each Chihuahua has stolen her heart: “During breakfast at a local restaurant, a nice lady gave me the magazine with their photo. I looked at them and they seemed to be saying to my heart, ‘Come and get us, we’re waiting on you.’ Since they had been at the shelter so long, I knew it was supposed to be me to be their new mother, and I went to the New Hanover Humane Society and Mallie Boom Boom and Maxamillian adopted them. enjoy getting cuddles from their It took a while grandma, Ruby Motley. after they got home to grow confident, but they sure are happy and confident now. At first, they didn't want to venture out into the yard, but now they’re all over. I have to keep the garbage can pulled away from the back steps because Max likes to jump in it. They also get along very well with Sissy, my Terrier who I’ve had for 12 years. She loves them, too. I didn’t like Cookie’s name and I don’t think she did either because she never looked at me when I called her. I

tried different names until I re-named her Miss Mallie Boom Boom. ‘Boom Boom’ because she has a temper. She’s not mean, just a Miss Bossy Pants. Max does whatever she tells him. Her face is so white and her ears are always straight up in the air. She loves to stretch out on her back so I can rub her tummy. So cute. Maxamillian has a big apple head and huge eyeballs. His back legs are Max and Mallie Boom Boom really long so when he pose with their new sister, Sissy, runs it’s very funny. He who easily went from being a can run fast to be so litsolo dog to part of a trio. tle. He also likes to stretch his back legs out when he lays on his stomach. When I hold him, he turns into a wet noodle. Totally limp. When I feed them chicken, Max almost takes the skin off my fingers. That boy is crazy about chicken. He jumps 20 inches off the floor to reach it. They bring people running to pet them when I take them out in public. They both like to walk in our neighborhood. I have to put sunblock on their noses for sunbathing, and they certainly are the easiest to wash. I can do them in the kitchen sink. I know in my heart that God gave me these pups. They add so much joy to my life. They return all the love I give them 100 times over. I’ve been bringing dogs home since I was a little girl, but these two snuggle bunnies take the cake. The saddest thing in the world is for a person or pet to not have a home, and I want to thank the Humane “The sweetest thing they do is lick Society for letting me each other’s faces, and they conadopt these two Wastantly snuggle,” says new mom, Wa’s. They are so Donna Nelson, pictured above with Maxamillian and special and I love, Mallie Boom Boom. love, love them!”

▲We two brothers were dropped off at Animal Control, but luckily that wasn’t the end of our story because Cat Adoption Team rescued us! We are 6-month-old Tabbies with very loving personalities. We believe we will purr our way into your heart! I’m Nemo and I love to play. I’m a bit shy at first, but I warm up quickly. Neptune adores being held. We can be adopted together or separately and are already neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained.
We’re at Petsmart 7 days a week. ◄Hey, who’s that peeping at me? Oh, it’s you! Well, while you’re here, let me tell you all about myself. My name is Varina and I’m a total lap cat! I’m a declawed beauty named Monday! I got my name because everyone enjoys starting out the week with a cat like me. I once lived in a loving home, but due to family health issues I was unable to stay. I’m making friends with everyone at the shelter because I’m so affectionate and very sweet. I’m highly touchable - come on, stroke my face and body, I love it! I’m also spayed, up to date on vaccinations and an excellent litterbox-user. Because I have no claws, I’ll need to be kept inside safe out of harm’s way. You won’t want me to be outdoors, though, because I’m a perfect companion! We can kick back and watch TV or take naps together. To get started on this happy new life, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340. I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge.

Why is a beautiful girl like me all alone? My name is Sierra and I’m a 7-monthold puppy with a slender build and a huge heart. I was found as a stray with my two sisters. They look just like me and are also waiting for loving homes. No one can quite figure out what we’re mixed with, but we’re definitely pleasing to the eyes and possess a small stature. I hope you’ll visit me at the shelter - you’ll see what a great companion I would be for some very fortunate person or family. I’m a happy and playful girl who loves adults, children, other dogs and even cats. I have already been spayed and am vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. There could be many happy days ahead of us, if only you’ll take the time to call or visit. To help get you started, here is SOAR’s number: 910-457-6340. I can’t wait to meet you! I am sponsored by Phoenix Rising Agency, Inc. Thank you!
Cat Tails Please call 910-253-1375 to adopt us! ►Do I look disgusted in this picture? Well I am. My name is Nimbus and I am a 3-yearold gray, Persian mix who is tired of living with all these other cats. Someone of my pedigree should be living by myself and treated like royalty. Come rescue me from these peons, and let me be your little king!
▲I’m Sinbad the sailor cat! I live on an island in Ocean Isle. Please come rescue me! I can be shy at first but I promise once you get to know me, you will love me! I am just an adolescent at 14-months, so there is plenty of time for us to make our own fairy tale. If you’ve been searching but unable to find that special “someone”, please give me a chance and I’ll prove to you they are out there. ►Look at this beautiful belly! You know you just want to rub it. My name is Kali and I am a beautiful 4-year-old Tortie. Just like Miss Kitty, I have been waiting a long time for my furever home. I do have one flaw. Even the pretty ones have one! I have to eat a non-prescription food for cats with sensitive stomachs because other food causes me to lose my fur. But it is not expensive. Not when you consider how much love I will bring to your life.
◄Just like Howard Stern, I am a wild and crazy guy! And like Mr. Stern, I like to play rough at times, so be prepared. I am 3-year-old, black and white male. All the stress of being a celebrity has given me a sensitive stomach, so I need special food, but it’s not prescription food. I am co-sponsored, so I have a friend who is willing to pay half my adoption fee if someone special wants to take me home. ►My name is Miss Kitty and I recently left Gunsmoke in search of a new home. You might recognize me from my TV days as I still have that wonderful orange hair. But life on the ranch was too hard so after four years I am ready for a calm home. I can be very jealous so I would do best as an only cat. When you’re ready for that “special” girl I’m ready for you. I was in PawPrints exactly one year ago and still no one has come for me. Please don’t make me wait another year.
Kittens, Kittens, Kittens! It’s kitten season and we’ll have lots of beautiful ones looking for homes. There are too many to list, and by the time the magazine comes out, those we had pictures of will be adopted and new ones will be here to replace them. So visit our webpage at cattails.org to see the current pictures of those that are available.
►Well, this is my first time in PawPrints. I hope the picture shows how beautiful I am. I tried my best. My name is Pessa, and I am a very friendly, affectionate young girl. My life started a little rough as someone dumped me in a feral colony and when I was getting fixed they clipped my ear before they determined I was a sweet pea! So now I am ready for part two of my life to get started. Let me spend many years making you as happy as the day I was rescued.

My owners brought me here to the shelter and surrendered me and I am now homeless through no fault of my own. I am comfortable being held, I’m good with kids and other animals, I’m spayed and I would love to find my forever family. Do you think you could help me out with that?
►Would you like to have a dog who makes you feel happy and loved? My name is Todd (A237925) and I would love the chance to do just that for you! I am a Walker Hound mix who was picked up by Animal Control as a stray. I am happy and gentle and I have a great personality. I know how to sit on command and I’m eager to please. Will you come to my rescue? ◄My name is Amy (A238805) and I’m a 4-year-old orange Tabby. I’m very sweet and petite. I was found as a stray and had been hanging around the same area for a few weeks. One of my most favorite things in the world is to cuddle. To be more specific, I’m what you’d call a Shoulder Cat. Just lean over and give me the signal and I’ll gently make my way onto your shoulder. Heck, you could even walk around with me there...hands free!! I’ve already been spayed so I’m ready to go home with you today. Is your family looking for a loving feline? I hope so!

►Too cute for words! My name is Adam (A238642) and someone abandoned me. Just dropped me off and drove away. This misfortune could be your gain because I’m a terrific puppy. Perfect in every puppy way! I’m about 3-months-old, neutered, eager to please, happy and social. I already know how to sit for a treat! If you would like to adopt an all around great puppy, here I am!! ◄I don’t even know what it is but I’m so mad about this economy. It has caused me to lose my home. My name is Katie (A238889) and I’m an 8month-old Labrador Retriever mix. My owner couldn’t afford to keep me any longer so I was surrendered to the shelter. I’m very sweet and friendly and solid black except for a little bit of white fur on my back foot. I keep looking out of my cage waiting for someone to save me. ◄If you hold your hand down and wiggle your fingers, I will come running over because I just can’t resist head, neck and chin scratches. My name is Butter Bean (A238539) and I’m a gray and white, spayed girl. And I’m gorgeous, if I do say so myself. I’m calm, curious and cuddly and was picked up by Animal Control as a stray. I love being held and will purr with delight when you hold me close. In fact, those who meet me say that I would much rather cuddle than play.

Looking for a Multi-Purpose Dog? Loyal, loving 5-year-old female looking for permanent residence with an understanding person or family. My name is Dory and I will clean your floors, sort the laundry, empty the trash, make sure no food is left out on the counters, keep the toilets clean, and shred documents to prevent identity theft. I also come with an early warning system to alert you to prowlers, strangers and people in general. In return for performing all these essential functions, all I request is room and board. What a Deal! I have a checkered past and am trying hard to be a good girl. But life on the straight and narrow is rocky at times. I am not high maintenance so I will sleep on the couch or the floor. I am comfortable in a crate. I am intelligent enough to do my personal business outside. I like tug of war, walks with my human, and any type of food. I get uncomfortable in large crowds and don't like people in my face. It's a personal thing. I like to be petted but I am not a snuggler unless I get to know you really well. I try to be brave all the time but some puppyhood traumas are hard to overcome. I never got much attention as a pup and it’s hard for me to figure people out sometimes. I can be a great dog for the right person. I currently live with a 10-year-old boy and another dog. So older kids and other dogs are okay but I would be an excellent only dog as well. Please give me a chance! To make me a member of your family, please call Carolina Basset Hound Rescue at 919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com.

My name is Agatha and I am a DOLL! I am unbelievably sweet and gentle. I had the rotten luck of testing positive for Feline Leukemia. What that means is that I must go to a home with no other cats or with other cats who already tested positive for Feline Leukemia. And I must go to a home where people have open minds. I may live another year or more, but my life will be cut short due to this diagnosis. However, I am healthy now and I feel good. I want to live the rest of my life out even if it will be shorter than others. This is the hand I was dealt and I am making the most of it. Anyone out there with a heart and an open mind? PawPrints Magazine’s 8th Annual Cover Model Search The Judges’ Decisions Are In: This Year’s Honorable Mentions
“Juneau” Submitted by: Beth Steinberg Several months after losing our beloved Alaskan Malamute Duke suddenly to a ruptured tumor, we decided it was time to expand our family again. We already had 4 other wonderful rescues of various ages and breeds, but there was just something about a Mal we knew we wanted to add to the family again. After having had such a wonderful experience with our first one, we knew a Mal was something we wanted to experience again. We are big supporters of rescues and animal shelters, and would never consider any other way to go, so we immediately started looking into adopting from rescues. At a rescue in South Carolina, we found a litter of 6-week-old Mals who had been confiscated from a breeder. Apparently, SC is a very popular puppy mill state, as its laws regarding animal welfare are very lax. We met the last 2 pups left for adoption, a tiny female and a robust male. The female had been on the receiving end of a vicious attack by her dam, likely as a result of over breeding and tight spaces, and she had lost an eye as a result. She was lucky to have lost the eye and not her life- one of her littermates was not so lucky, we were told. But because of her obvious injury, the rescue had not had any interest from potential adopters. That was all it took for us! We took Juneau home with us that day, and have never regretted it for a moment. She had a few health "bumps" initially as a result of her eye loss and her rough start in life, but today, she is a happy, healthy "teenager" of about 18-months. She has fit right into our little pack, and despite the size difference, she has formed a definite bond with our Dachshund. She even lays down to play with him, so he won't be at a disadvantage! Juneau would make a great cover dog because of her story. She was lucky enough to have been saved from that puppy mill by the rescue, but so many animals are not as fortunate, so it is important to keep people aware of the horrors that have been created by these breeders. She also shows that despite a rough start in life and a physical handicap, she has become a happy, loving girl and part of a family that adores her.
“Daisy” Submitted by: Kristy Jackson I searched for my first puppy at the local pound in my hometown. In the first kennel, several small dogs looked up expectantly, but it was a litter of golden puppies that caught my eye. I wanted a girl, so the Animal Control Officer picked up a tiny yellow coated puppy with a spot of dark fur. She was perfect. I immediately called the vet to set up an appointment. It was only then that I learned that my new puppy was extremely malnourished and severely underweight. She had intestinal worms and, to make matters worse, the spot of dark fur turned out to be dark in color from a massive flea infection. Uncared for, she was frightened of everything – from the wind and grass to humans – and ate food like she had never seen it before. My vet assured me we could clean her up and I would have a great dog. Fast-forward eight years. That tiny puppy, named Daisy and so sick at the beginning, is the queen of the house. She is spoiled rotten with snacks and toys – and her grandpa treats her to McDonald’s cheeseburgers! And she has given me so much. I come home each day from work to a dog so excited to see me she jumps in circles. She makes me laugh as she plays with her treat ball or buries her bone in the sofa. She has taught me patience and unconditional love. Daisy is living proof that the best puppies do not have to come from breeders. I invested my time and energy in helping her heal and grow, and she has returned that love in ways I could not have imagined. As I said above, she was, and is, perfect.
“Turkie Predator” Submitted by: Rafaella & Turk She was adopted from Boston Terrier Rescue of NC two years ago in August, and currently she is 2 1/2-years-old. When I picked her up, she was stricken with an intense case of demodex mange and very underweight. This is how she got her name Turkie, because of her uncanny resemblance to poultry. Turk has changed my life in a multitude of ways, but most in that she inspired my boyfriend and I to become foster parents for Boston Terrier Rescue. We are on our fourth foster, Murray Man - who can be seen on the website. Being a foster parent to behaviorally challenged and what some deem as hopeless cases has undoubtedly forced me to become a more patient person. My pup Turk should absolutely be the cover model for PawPrints because of her perseverance through a sundry of medical issues and severe neglect. She has instilled in me the recurrent belief that all dogs are born good natured. It's the wrong hands that can force them into aggression and anxiety. Dogs change and mold to their environments, so it's very clear that each deserves a second chance.

Feature Story “Iain” Submitted by: Whitney R. Ricciardi Iain came into our lives on September 25, 2007. In the months before, Iain spent his days in the hospital fighting for his life. And, in the years before that, who knows? This beautiful Boxer was a stray. He was extremely malnourished, had holes in his feet, and scars all over his body. But, boy he was handsome, even with all of his flaws. When Blue Ridge Boxer Rescue (BRBR) was notified of Iain and his condition, we immediately pulled him from the shelter and rushed him to the vet’s office. He was in dire straits – heartworm positive, kidney and liver functions weren’t working properly, teeth were barely there and only 25 pounds of dog. Iain spent almost two-months in the hospital with wonderful folks taking care of him. He was much better, but he wasn’t thriving. A volunteer with BRBR knew he needed something. Something that this breed of dog LIVES for – a family! Yep, that’s exactly what he needed! And, when the call came for a foster home for Iain, I couldn’t ignore it. His wounds have healed, but he still bears the scars. He is now weighing in at a whopping 72 pounds. He is great with other dogs and has no food aggression. His breath stinks, but his spirit is spectacular. He sleeps with his head on the pillow in my son’s room. He spends his days positioning himself next to anyone that’s sitting on the couch. If you ignore him, he’ll paw you to let you know he’s there. He has yet to meet a stranger. He loves to give kisses and adores children. He is the only dog in our home that doesn’t require a leash and he’s had no formal training. He’s the PERFECT dog. What more could we ask for?
“Tenille” Submitted by: Mike and Kim Abernathy
Hello, my name is Tenille. Yes, just like in the 70’s musical duo, Captain and Tenille. My brother, Captain (of course), and I were left abandoned at a trash dump but were discovered by Betty Wallace with Tails U Win. They took us in, gave us love and shelter and nourished us back to health. I longed for someone to adopt me and then one day The Abernathy family arrived. I put on my best charm and charisma, as I really liked them and wanted to go home with them. Then came the big decision and it was a resounding “YES”, and it has been “Muskrat Love” (Captain & Tenille one hit wonder) ever since November 2005. My new family has a wonderful mom and dad, Mike and Kim, along with son Miles and daughter Demi. As with any new family, training must take place and my family was very trainable. And they learned quickly, as now I am the pampered pooch of the house. For instance, when I am in need of a belly rub, everyone knows the signal and my favorite spot. My food and water bowls are never empty, but I can easily work the dinner table for a tasty nibble by giving them “The Look”. I love to go everywhere with my family, especially beach and camping trips, but on the occasion that my family travels without me, I have my own personal nanny. I now have her trained as she brings delicious treats which are so very tasty. I love my family and my new life can be summed up in three words: “Life Is Good”. Their love for me, and mine for them, can be measured as far as to the moon and back. My adoption has truly been a match made in heaven.
“Stanley” Submitted by: Melody Paye
In September of 2008, a few months after losing my dog, my mom decided it was time to start looking for a new companion. That’s how we came across Stanley. Stanley was an owner turn-in to an animal shelter in Fayetteville. Upon leaving him at the shelter, his owners said he had a spider bite. From further examination, however, the veterinarian concluded he had third degree chemical burns along the length of his spine, caused by some caustic material being poured on him, and possibly lit on fire. He was soon taken by a rescue, and the word was spread that this little dog needed help. After getting an e-mail complete with pictures of little Stanley, my mom and I took a trip up to see him, and adopted him. Stanley is a little mischievous so there is never a dull moment in our life with him. He is very bright and enjoys learning new tricks; he picks up on them very fast. Although he has been through a horrific ordeal and has permanent scarring as a result, he is as joyful and exuberant as can be. I love Stanley because of his optimism and love of life. He can always cheer me up with his goofy nature and comical appearance. His brown, almond eyes hold such emotion you can’t help but love him. He is happy to be almost anywhere, as long as you are there, too. Stanley has changed my life because he has taught me to always look at the glass as half-full. No matter what he has been through, he is always ready and willing to love you with an open heart. Stanley should be on the cover of PawPrints because everyone should be able to enjoy him as much as I do.

My name is Haas and I am a gentle giant! I am loveable and very friendly. I ran out of time at Animal Control and want to give a special thanks to Patrick Ledbetter for coming to my rescue. He paid my adoption fee which helped Adopt-An -ANGEL take me in. I tested positive for heartworms and the treatment is very costly, but since Patrick paid my adoption fee, it makes it a little easier for Adopt-An-ANGEL to pay for my treatment. See what happens when a lot of people come together? I WIN! I need one more person to pitch in and help me. That's the nice person who’s gonna give me my forever home. If you are out there reading this, realize that a lot of people thought I was worth saving so I MUST be good. Heartworms will not hurt me once I am treated. I will be as good as new. I am neutered, cratetrained, eager to learn and please, and I am SMART! If you would like to know more about me or would like to inquire about the adoption process, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557. I am sponsored in honor of Rocky’s 9th Birthday.
I am one HANSsome boy! Noble Shepherd Rescue saved me from a terrible fate and I am so thankful for the change they have made in my life. When they got me I was covered in feces and scared of my own shadow. Before moving in with my foster parents, I was an outside dog. My foster mom is pretty sure I was abused in some way by men because I hide behind her every time I meet a new one. I do love my foster Dad though, and it only took a few kind moments to win me over. The shelter said I am 4-years-old, but my foster mom says I act like a puppy! I am calm most of the time, but am high energy and clumsy like a puppy. I have a lot to learn about being in a house but am so smart and catching on very fast. Foster Mom doesn't like it when I potty in the house, so I am trying very hard to keep getting praise and treats outside. Unfortunately, I also like to rush the door and steal food. Foster mom says that even though I am very gentle, even timid, those two bad habits might make me undesirable with small children. My favorite new things are walks and ball. I am good with other dogs, females especially, and have met cats before at the vet without showing any interest in them. I'm not sure if that means I could live with one, but it does show I do not have a strong prey drive. Can you give me the good home I deserve? For more info or more pictures of me, visit www.nobleshepherdrescue.com or call 910-431-6294.
Compassionate Cat Lover Needed Desperately! Our lives have suddenly become very sad… for years we were part of a loving home, but then everything changed. My name is Claire and I’m 16-years-old. My sister, Rachel, is 16-years-old, too. Our best buddy, Gracie, is a youngster in comparison at 10-years of age. We three shared a life together - a very happy, comfortable one. Then our elderly owner became ill and couldn’t take care of us. There was no one else to take us in and we were brought to Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue (SOAR.) It’s quite a change to go Rachel from a comfy home with familiar sights and sounds Claire to the strange surroundings of an animal shelter. The shelter manager says we seem depressed, we hardly move and have bewildered looks on our faces. Isn’t it sad that, at our advanced age, we have no special person to love us? We all enjoy being held and will snuggle up in your arms. We can’t get enough kisses and are so happy to receive attention. We appear to be in good health and are spayed, vaccinated and litterboxtrained. We’d love to be adopted into one family. If that’s not possible, it would be ideal if at least Rachel and I could arrive at our new home together since we have never been apart. Gracie’s loveable personality would bring joy to her new family. Please spread the word about us to your friends! We three deserve the dignity of a peaceful senior life and we hope there is someone out there who will take us into their heart. Call SOAR at 910-457-6340 to find out how you can meet us. We are sponsored in memory of Thumpy, who was rescued as an elderly kitty from a hoarder household. She was the best all-around kitty and lapsitter ever. Family and Gracie friends, especially her mom Faye, will fondly remember Thumpy's patient, loving spirit.
URGENT, URGENT! We Need to Find Homes Soon! Hi there, my name is Page and this is my best friend Coal. We’ve lived in a home together for many years and are so sad to be searching for a new place to lay our heads. It would be wonderful to be adopted together, but we can be adopted separately if we each go to a loving home. I’m an 8 to 9-year-old female PAGE Shepherd mix and I’m a 95 pound teddy bear. Coal is an 8-year-old male Lab mix with an easy smile and a loving personality. We are house-trained, obedient and eager to please. We love going for walks, playing with children above the age of six and we have lived harmoniously with a cat. We would be great companions for anyone. We are spayed/neutered, up to date on vacCOAL cinations and on heartworm prevention. Because we’ve lived in a home all our lives, we have great house manners and are well-adjusted, social, friendly dogs. Would you please consider adopting one of us? Or perhaps both? We promise to give you so much love and so much companionship! You’ll never be lonely again. Please call the Sunburst Foundation at 910-622-0011 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info. Hope to meet you soon! We are sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington.
Tiny is obviously a silly name for this huge, cuddly gentle giant. Tiny is a 5-year-old, rough-coated female Saint Bernard who spent most of her life as an outside dog. However, now that she knows what she was missing, she is looking for a family to spend her life with. Tiny is house-trained, spayed, vaccinated, micro-chipped and current on heartworm prevention. She would love to be part of an active family with children, as she is very playful and affectionate, and enjoys snuggling, swimming, boating and just hanging out. Tiny shares her foster home with two other Saint Bernards, who she loves to romp with, so she would be happy in a family with or without other dogs. Tiny did not have a good start to life, but she is full of puppy-like enthusiasm, and has a tremendous amount of love to share. If you would like to know more about Tiny and the adoption process, call 910-5474823 or email email@example.com. You may also visit www.capefearsaintbernardrescue.com. I am sponsored by Pets Plus Grooming.
Hi everyone, I'm Mike. I'm a special guy that needs a special home. I am a 5-year-old Schnauzer boy who is WONDERFUL! I'm housetrained, leash-trained, crate-trained, good with other dogs and good with kids. However, I have epilepsy, so every 90 days or so I have seizures. I have them for about a day, get my bearings straight, and then I'm back to my bouncy self. When I am going through them, I just need a place to lie down, and someone to give me my relaxing meds, and I sleep. I can’t help my condition, but with very cheap meds ($50/month) I keep my seizures down to a minimum, and everything is very controlled. I am looking for someone who understands how great I am but who accepts my 'special need.' I am neutered, up to date on all shots, and come with lots of paperwork from the vet to show I am healthy. If you can give me a shot at true love, please visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. You can fill out an application there and view other adoptable rescues. If you need an application mailed or faxed, please call 910-264-8300. I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Insurance Agency in honor of Molly.
Micki is an approximately 2year-old mostly white merlequin female with blue eyes. She does not have any vision impairments, but does appear to have diminished hearing. Micki came to rescue as one of five females given up by a breeder. She was the only one of the five that had not been bred. Micki just finished treatment for demodectic mange and had a clean scrape. The thin spots, redness and sores are gone and she is rapidly becoming quite the looker. Add her great personality and zest for life that she portrays daily, and you have one nice young lady. Micki's exuberance is probably her only negative, she needs to learn better manners. She gets excited and forgets she's not supposed to jump on people. This is an ongoing lesson, she is getting better but does need more work. Micki gets along well with male dogs but can be picky with females. Cats and children are unknown. To give Micki a forever home or even a foster home, please contact the NC Chapter Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League by calling Terri at 252-5668934 or visiting their website at www.magdrl.org.
My name is Victoria and this is my story. One night, the Tails U Win lady was letting her dogs out for potties, and they took off after a furry beast in the backyard. That furry beast ran right into the open door of the Tails U Win lady's house because I guess that furry beast figured the living room was a safe place to go. LOL! The Tails U Win lady had to call her local animal control because that's what has to be done, then when that Animal Control guy got there, the furry beast (ME!) just jumped right up into his arms and gave him kisses and hugs and happy-happy tail wags. The Tails U Win lady just laughed so hard! I'm at a foster home now, still giving kisses and tail wags, playing with all my foster doggie friends and even playing with the kitty-cats. My doctor thinks I'm about 7-months-old. This picture just doesn’t do me justice because I'm a beautiful tri-color Shepherd girl with gorgeous brown eyes. If you would like to adopt me, please call 910-250-3004.

Howdy folks!! I have just been pulled from Animal Control where my old family turned me in because of a divorce. Too bad that I ended up in a shelter, but it was good luck that Carolina Basset Hound Rescue (CBHR) found me and is going to take good care of me. I was told that I will have to undergo heartworm treatment since my old parents didn't keep me on heartworm preventative. I will be ready for a new home soon. Feel free to watch me blossom into a beautiful dog with a healthy heart. Thanks to CBHR for their willingness to invest in getting me healthy. Will get back to you as soon as I settle into my new foster home so that I can tell you all about my personality! To make me a member of your family, please call 919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com.
Hello up there! Want to go for a roll in the grass with me? My name is Sheba and I’m a very friendly girl, just 7-months-old. I was found as a stray in a kind stranger’s yard. I’m a smallsized girl with a slender build. I’m also a beautiful creamy-white and I have the softest brown eyes ever! I’m doing great at the shelter and am happy and playful. I get along well with everyone - adults, children, dogs and even cats. I’ve already been spayed, vaccinated and placed on heartworm prevention, so there are no worries there. If you’re looking for a real sweetheart to spend the rest of your life with, I hope you’ll consider me. Just call SOAR at 910-457-6340 and they’ll tell you how we can get together. Happily, they are all weaned and are on the search for new families. I think it’s high time I got a little pampering, don’t you think? My name is Ariel and I’m a very affectionate, purry girl who loves to cuddle with humans. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Life will be happier if you have me in it! ►They’ve called me Cutie Pie and it sure is easy to see why. I’m a 6-month-old grey Tabby boy who was found living alone under someone’s porch. My momma was nowhere to be found. Now I’m at the shelter, making pals with the other kitties, and waiting for my forever family to walk through the door. I love to be petted and held. Back rubs are really good! Let’s get to know one another really soon. ►My name is Sweetie because I'm one of the sweetest cats you'll ever meet. I'm about 1-yearold, spayed, current on my shots, and litterboxtrained. I'm very affectionate and love to be cuddled. I also get along great with the other kitties in the playroom. Unemployed Working Dog, Needs a Job! Everyone calls me "Fun Fletcher!" I am a playful goof who would love a little boy of my own to play with or a job to do. I love to run and play, chase balls, throw Frisbees and balls around and can even humor myself when I am alone. I am agile and I can gracefully clear a 4-foot chain link fence like I am jumping hurdles. Actually, I would make a great agility dog since I can climb chain link and even a wooden privacy fence especially when I am bored. I need to be an indoor dog who is leash walked. I am super smart, too. I know “sit” and “down” and you can actually see my wheels turn as I try to figure out my next escape! I am so gentle when I take treats from your hand. If I had a job to do, my energy would be easily redirected. I am sweet and get along great with other dogs and am curious with cats. I am neutered and heartworm negative. If you would like to know more about me or would like to inquire about the adoption process, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557. No salary required, will work FREE for room and board. I am sponsored by RepresentingBuyersOnly.com in honor of Tim and Teresa Van Acker. Thank you!
We’re two smart, adorable Labrador puppies! Our names are Jack and Jill and we were found by the side of the road. Boy, it was hot and we were so glad to be saved. Maybe that’s why we love playing in our puppy pool - the water feels so good and it makes our human friends giggle to see us splashing about. We are 12-weeks-old and already appear to be house-trained - we wait to go out of the kennel to go potty. We love other dogs and have laidback, mellow personalities. And yes indeed, we’ve already been neutered/spayed and have had our first round of puppy shots. Our friends tell us we’ll probably be big Labs by the time we’re fully grown. In the meantime, we currently weigh between 10 and 15 pounds. To adopt us together or separately, call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 and let them know you’d like to arrange a get-together! We are sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

My name is Libby but you might want to call me ‘Libby the Lovebug’. I bet you can guess why, but I’ll tell you anyway: I’m a very sweet and affectionate girl who is simply grateful for the touch of a kind hand and any loving words. I was found as a thin stray with my buddy, Gus. You can see his photo on page 39. Since I’ve been at SOAR, I’ve gained weight and have made quite a positive impression with my mellow, gentle personality. The folks here have yet to even hear me bark. I’m under 2-years-old and would love to be part of a family. I think I was born for that! I am already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention, so all I need now is for you to come fall in love with me. If you need directions or any other info, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340. Hello there, my name is Ranger! I’m a 2½ to 3-year-old Hound mix, weighing in at approximately 53 pounds, and I love to snuggle! If you get too close, you may find me sprawled across your lap or trying to rest my head on your shoulder. I was found in a residential area and was very thin. I also had a broken leg and other medical needs. My compassionate rescuers took care of me and now I’m in excellent health and my leg is healed! I’m heartworm negative, crate-trained and neutered. I love to go on walks and play with other animals. You’ll find I’m a very loyal, playful and affectionate boy who bonds instantly with those who show me affection. I’m looking for a loving, permanent home where I will be part of a family. If you think you’re the one for me, please contact Bena at 910-367-8700.
SOAR (Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue) Please call 910-457-6340 to adopt us! ◄I’m a big, handsome boy named Graystone and I sure would like to belong to you! At 5-yearsold, I’m an affectionate kitty who loves for humans to touch and rub me. I am mostly gray but the tip of my tail is white. I’d be a superb companion for a family with kids, a single person, or even a retired couple. I’m also good with other cats. And yes, I’m neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. You’ll be happy you adopted me! ►Hi! My name is Annie. I’m a 1-year-old special needs kitty. You see, I got a viral infection as a tiny kitten and became very sick. Sadly, part of my brain was damaged. A neurologist said the problem was in my cerebellum and nothing could be done. I’m unable to walk but I’m a good crawler. And since it happened at such a young age, this feels like normal to me! I am a happy cat who loves to sit in laps and purr. I like to play with dangly things. I’m excellent in the litterbox as long as someone takes me there. I’m a really sweet girl and I like the cats and big dog in my foster home. Please call my foster mom at 910-278-4437 and let’s arrange a time to meet. ►I’m Billy Jack and I’m a sweet-hearted Hound mix. I wandered up on SOAR’s property in sad shape - I was barely more than bones and quite scared. Thanks to good food and loving hands, I’m a new boy. In fact, they say I’m an overgrown puppy! I’m about 2-years-old, and I’ve discovered that I love running around the yard and playing with any kind of toy. I love to be cuddled and am great with children, dogs and even cats. I’m also neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Would you come out to SOAR and meet me?
◄Hello! I’m an extremely affectionate Hound boy named Gus. I was found on Ocean Isle as a stray and was so skinny. Since my arrival, I’ve put on some weight and I’ve impressed everyone with my friendly, loving nature. I haven’t even barked yet! I love to play and am estimated to be around 1-year-old. I don’t jump up on people and I’m good with other dogs. You’ll find I’m quite handsome, too, so come on over quick! ►When can you and I get together? You see, I’m looking for a playmate and best friend, and I think you could fit the bill! My name is Sarrie and I’m a 7-month-old puppy who was found as a stray on someone’s porch. My two sisters, who look just like me, are also waiting for homes. I’m an ivorycolored mixed breed with a slender, small build. I get along great with adults, kids, other dogs and even cats. I’m terrific!
►My name is Louie and I’m a friendly, affectionate boy. I’ve been at SOAR for quite a long time, so I can hardly express how grateful I would be to be adopted! Let’s just say that lots of purrs and kisses would be in store for the one who takes me home. It’s quite a mystery why I haven’t been snapped up. I love to play with toys and will keep my new family entertained! I use my scratching post and litterbox and am in great health. Adopt me!

I get along great with the other kitties at the shelter and I love getting attention from humans! I'm spayed, current on vaccinations, litterbox- trained and under 1year-old. I’d be so grateful to have a furever home! Come to the shelter and get to know me. It’s a cage-less environment, so you can play with me and watch me interact with the other kitties and all the toys that are laying around. If you’d like to get things started, please call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and tell them you’re on your way!
My name is Rush and I’m a 3-yearold brindle boy. I have retired from racing and also retired from being a blood donor hound. I am cat safe and adjusting well to retirement in my foster home. I have already been neutered and vaccinated and I would be greyt as an addition to your pack or as an only child. I’m a sweet boy and will go fast!! Better not wait if you are interested in me! Please contact Barbara at 910-540-9644 for more information on adopting me or one of my friends. You can view other greyhounds looking for good homes at www.greyhoundfriends.com.

Sunburst Foundation of Wilmington Please call 910-622-0011 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to adopt us! ◄I’m Dawson and I love all people, especially children! I’m a 3-yearold, flat-coated Retriever mix and I’d dearly love to belong to your family. I am house-trained, cratetrained, neutered, vaccinated, and on heartworm prevention. I play well with other dogs and I’ve had no problem with cats. I can also sit on command for treats. Don’t I sound like a great fellow? Call today so we can meet real soon!
Sunburst Foundation is in desperate need of donations to continue its mission of rescue, rehab and re-home. Foster homes are desperately needed so that adoptable canines from municipal shelters can continue to be taken. Thanks to its spay/neuter grant, Sunburst has provided services to approximately 50 owned canines that otherwise would continue filling the shelters with unwanted litters of pups and adult dogs. Your tax deductible donation can be sent to Sunburst Foundation, PO Box 7527, Wilmington, NC 28406.
◄My name is Jasper and I’ve been homeless for over four years. I just can’t understand why? I’m such a wonderful boy and have so much love to give a lucky person or family. I’m 6-years-old and I look like a mix between a miniature Husky and a Shiba Inu. I love people and am very affectionate. I’m housetrained, crate-trained, and am sweet and friendly to dogs my size. I’d prefer a home without cats, small dogs or ferrets because they get me a little too excited. I’m very smart and I’ve been to obedience school so I’m quite familiar with commands such as ‘sit’. Adopt me!
◄ URGENT FOSTER HOME Needed For A Very Friendly Girl!!! My name is Casey and I’m a Black Lab mix. I am such a sweetheart and I seem to do well with other dogs. And of course I love people! Right now I am at Animal Control while waiting for a foster home to open up. I am very distressed and lonely at the shelter and am in desperate need of compassion from some kind, loving human or family. Won’t somebody help me out? I’m so tired of spending my days and nights all alone. ◄Hi there, I’m Julian! I’m a Yellow Lab mix girl and I’m extremely sweet. At just 1-year of age, I am learning basic obedience skills, cratetraining and leashtraining. I’d really enjoy continuing my obedience training with my new family! Presently, I weigh around 40 pounds and am vaccinated, spayed, and on heartworm prevention. I also play very well with other dogs. If you’d like to make me a part of your loving family, give me a call today! ◄Hello! I’m Lola and I’m a very sweet and loving girl. I’m a 3-year-old Shepherd mix and all I want is to please and be loved. I do have an old cruciate ligament injury which requires me to stay on glucosamine chondroiton for my lifetime. I interact very well with larger dogs who are laid back, and it would be helpful if I were hand walked on a regular basis to strengthen my muscles. I’m doing beautifully in my foster home and hope to soon find a forever family. Hey, I’ve got a great idea! Let’s arrange a visit so that we can get to know one another!

Kittens, kittens! My name is Cole and I’m the adorable black and white boy kitten you see below. Above me is my best buddy, Scotty. He’s an orange Tabby with bright, blue eyes. We are 8-week-old babies on a search for loving homes. If you’ve been praying for a precious kitten to love, I’ve got a great idea! Why not come to the shelter and spend some time with Scotty or me? You can cuddle and kiss us, then settle back and watch us playwrestle and skip after our toys. When you find the one who steals your heart, the ladies here will give you the adoption paperwork to fill out. It’s just that easy! For driving directions, call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022. And be sure to tell them that you’re interested in Cole and/or Scotty! We are sponsored by Phoenix Rising Agency, Inc. If you are looking for the best companion with a heart of gold and the most resilient personality, then look no further! I’m Shadow, a 13-year-old mini female Schnauzer weighing in at 15 pounds. I’m a sweet little girl who was dumped by my former owners at a vet’s office, which is when Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas (SRC) was contacted. I was made to live outside for the majority of my life and bounced around to five different family members. During this time, I was never groomed nor had any vet care, but this did not affect my sweet, loving nature. When SRC took me to the vet, I had to have all but four teeth removed due to the worst case of periodontal disease the vet said they had ever seen. Since being in my foster home I have stolen the hearts of everyone! I love to go outside and bask in the sun. I am great with other dogs and I’m house and crate-trained, but when I let you know I need to go out, let me out. It appears that I suffered a back injury at some point, so I walk a little funny at times and sometimes lose my balance, but that doesn’t stop me one bit! I get right back up and keep going! I’m looking for a quiet home and for someone who just wants to make a difference in a special little girl’s life. I’m up to date on all shots, spayed, and was given a clean bill of health. So if you want to open your heart to me and give me back what I deserved for the first thirteen years of my life, please visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org and fill out an application on line. If you need an application mailed or faxed to you, call 910-264-8300.

Working & Walking with the Angels! Adopt-An-ANGEL (AAA) seeks volunteers who live in the Southport, Supply and Leland areas who would like to walk homeless dogs. AAA’s dog adoptions have completely stopped and the dogs are in danger of deteriorating as they languish in homelessness. They need YOU to help walk them, teach them, train them and love them so that hopefully someone will find an endearing quality in them and offer them a home. When one gets adopted, AAA runs to area animal controls so that another slated for euthanasia can be saved. But with no adoptions, no one is saved. So get in shape, stay healthy and do a good deed all at the same time! For details, please call Jill Jones at 910-620-3783.

Hi there! My name is Dexter and I’m a 20-month-old Beagle mix boy. I’m a terrific fellow, very loving and sweet. I’m also a groaner. Do you know what that is? That’s the kind of dog who groans gently when you rub them because it feels so good. The folks at Paw’s Place say I make the most satisfied sounds when they give me massages. I also enjoy going for car rides and meeting new people. In my photo above, I’m at an adoption fair where I charmed everyone with my friendly and welcoming personality. If you’re wondering why I’m homeless, well, my senior citizen dad went into a nursing home and I couldn’t come along. But I will make my new family happy because I know how to sit and come on command, and I’m already neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I have a great time with other dogs, and I know I’d have a great time with you! Please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 so our new life can begin.

You’ll find I’m a perfect companion and can settle right into your house with no trouble. After all, I’m already housetrained and leash-trained and I get along great with everyone! I’m especially fond of other dogs. And oh yes, I'm spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. If this all sounds good to you, come meet me really soon! I’m waiting at the shelter and their phone number is 910-259-7022.

Tails U Win Please call 910-250-3004 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to adopt us! ◄Hi, my name is Jesse. I'm a precious, scaredy-britches, sweet little Corgi mix who never felt the love of a human hand until I was over 3-months-old. I'm in a foster home that's got another girl doggie who used to be just like me, but she's learned that people are loving and fun and security. She's helping me open up my heart to receive all the love I so much deserve. I even jumped up on the bed to sleep with my foster Mom and Dad the other day! It will still take me a bit to get used to the big bad world and not ever be frightened of new stuff, but I've already come a long way in a very short time. My new home will need to be folks who can give me patience and security and love and LOVE! ►Mr. Oreo is a big sweetheart. He's a black Lab mix with all the personality of a Lab. He's approximately 1-year-old and weighs close to 70 pounds. He hasn't been good on a leash but we're working on that and he's getting better every day. He's so sweet and gentle and craves love and attention. He would definitely need to go to a home that loves the Lab breed and can take him to play with other dogs a bunch, go for walks in the park and let him sit on the sofa to watch TV. ◄Hello! My name is Cotton. Would you believe somebody pulled over to the side of the road, then got out and threw me out of the car?! How mean can humans get anyway? My foster Mom can't figure out why they did that, because I'm having a total blast at her house, playing with all the doggies and the cats, eating me up some good food, and feeling so much better after I got shaved and groomed and got all those ouchie matts out of my fur and all of those ticks off of me. My doctor thinks I'm a Maltese-Poodle mix about 1-year-old and about 15 pounds. You want some good, sweet face licks and tail wags? Then I'm your boy!
Oak Island, NC 28465
►Hi, I’m Cynthia. My Tails U Win rescue lady says it's a good thing her car has antilock brakes or she might not have been able to stop in time to avoid hitting me! She pulled over and called to me, and I just jumped right up into her arms! I was all dirty and matted and full of bugs and stuff, but my foster Mom got me all groomed and gorgeous. I am house-trained except for the occasional 'happy-sprinkles' when I get really excited. I'm having a blast playing with my foster doggie friends and I even like playing with the kitty-cats. I'm about 3-years-old and I've got the most absolutely beautiful white and buff, silky-shiny fur you ever did see. ►Now how could someone dump a precious thing like me at Animal Control? Luckily, a friend of my foster Mom's saw me there and Tails U Win took me in so I could get all healthy and ready for my new home. My name is Tazy and I'm about 3 to 4-years-old and I weigh about 35 pounds. My foster Mom says I'm a bundle of energy who just absolutely loves to play, play, play! I love getting all the attention I can get and I return that love ten-fold. Not sure what breed I am, but my doctor thinks maybe Chow and Cocker mix? Whatever I am, one thing for sure is I'm just way too cute ! ►My name is Tasha and I was dumped at Animal Control, all preggo and about to have my babies any day! The nice ladies at Tails U Win took me in, then I had eight little babies on February 3rd. My babies are all weaned now (I was such a good Mommy!) and I will be ready for my new home soon. I have been treated for heartworms, have been spayed, and am all healthy and ready for a new life. I'm crate-trained and house-trained, I get along with all the kitties in my foster home, and I also love playing with the pups at my foster home. Get in touch with Tails U Win and put in your application to adopt me. I'll have them read it to me and I'll let them know which home is the one I want to go to, okay?

My name is Fionna and I’m an extraadorable kitty with the most kissable face. I’m used to living indoors with my humans but, unfortunately, the landlord said I couldn’t stay. Now I’m looking for a home where I can stay forever! And believe me, you’ll be glad to have me as your companion because I’m such a wonderful, loving girl. At 8-years of age, I’m a laid-back and friendly feline who gets along great with men, women and children. I’m also getting along well with the other cats here at the shelter. I enjoy being petted and have the softest coat of ebony-colored fur. Oh, and you’ll be happy to know that I’m already spayed, vaccinated and litterboxtrained. All that’s left for me to do is move in and steal your heart! Please call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692 and tell them you’re on your way. I am sponsored in loving memory of Speckles. URGENT, URGENT! I Need To Find A Home Soon! I just can’t understand why I’ve been at the New Hanover Humane Society for several months! My name is Missy and I’m a 1-year-old Lab mix who has everything it takes to be a great family dog or someone’s new best friend. Please, please listen to all my wonderful qualities: I’m already housetrained, leashtrained, excellent with children, and friendly to cats. I didn’t live with another dog in my former home, but if you have a dog, please bring him or her to the shelter for an introduction. I’m sure we’d get along just fine! I’m a very friendly and happy girl who enjoys spending time with the humans in my life. I’ll be delighted to take walks with you, or just relax on the couch and watch TV. As for my health, I am in tip-top shape and am already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Do you think we could be a match? I pray that we are! Come on over and meet me. For more info, call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692. I am sponsored by Levi Donovan. Please consider adoption.
Purrfect Pet Adoptions Please call 910-329-4700 to adopt us! ►I’m sleek like a Bengal cat - you never know, I could have some kind of exotic lineage in me! Hello there, my name is Antoinette and I’m an 8-month-old girl with a fun, happy personality. I just love it when humans give me attention and I’m also very playful. I don’t seem to mind being around dogs, but I think I’d be happiest in a cat-free home. Hey, you can’t blame me for wanting all the love, right? Please come visit me! ◄Who loves Russian Blue kitties? My name is Slater and my fur is greyish/blue. I’m quite handsome! At just 5-months of age, I’m waiting to make someone very happy. I’m good with children and not at all skittish. I’m curious and playful and, when you hold me, I go limp in your arms. I just love to receive love and affection! I’m good with other cats and even dogs. Lets get together! ◄I’m a 1-year-old girl named Bingo and I’d love to be part of your family! I’m a very sweet and friendly feline who gets along well with other kitties. I am already spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and litterbox-trained. I’m a quiet girl who just wants a nice, cozy life with people who adore me. Oh, and if you have a peacock feather or a few toys for me to play with, that would be great, too. Please promise to come visit!
◄I don’t have the papers but I look like a Russian Blue! My fur is so plush and such an unusual color of bluish-gray. My name is Moonshine and I’m a happy, friendly, peopleoriented 5-month-old boy. I’m social, great with kids and perfect with other cats. And dogs don’t phase me a bit! I enjoy being held and love to play with toys. I’m quite sure that I’m your perfect companion!
▲We’re not siblings, but we share a cage and have fun together. Hi, I’m Muffy and I’m a female Tortie with blue eyes. I’m so pretty! I’m just 6-weeks-old and was found under a house. My pal, Mikey, is an 8-week-old kitten. He was found in an air duct! We are bottlefed babies who love to be held and kissed. If you can’t take both of us home, don’t worry, we can be adopted separately. ◄My name is Dusky and I’m a very affectionate girl who loves getting attention from humans. I enjoy being held and have medium-length silver fur with a poufy tail. I’m just lovely! I know it’s hard to believe, but I was tossed out on the side of the road. Imagine that! I’m a young girl who is playful, healthy, and ready to live a wonderful life with kind people who deserve me!

This sweet girl is Olive. Olive is a cute Boxer puppy who is looking for her forever family. She was taken from her mother too soon and wasn't brought up around her siblings like most puppies, so she didn't have the right socialization and training that puppies get from their moms and littermates. She is such a wonderful girl though, but requires a strong leader so she will not become dominant as she grows into herself. She is 6-months-old, house-trained, crate trained, good with other dogs and good with cats but does try to play with them. She would do best with an active family who has lots of time to play with and exercise her. She is going to be very loyal to her family, and if you can show her you are boss, she will never let you down! She is up to date on shots, spayed, and ready for adoption. Please apply to adopt sweet Olive at www.blueridgeboxerrescue.com. For questions, please contact Sonya Hutson at email@example.com or 864-419-5198.

Hey there! My name is Beau, and I’m looking for a really great forever home. My owner is leaving the country and sadly, she cannot take me with her. I am a dark fawn APBT, registered by the American Dog Breeders Association. I love people and other animals. Playing outside with a ball (soccer or tennis...or even baseball) is my absolute favorite pastime. I am very gentle and laid-back, and I love to get cozy and cuddle after a long, hard day of playing. I’m just over a year-old, so I still have a lot of puppy in me. I know a couple of tricks like sit, stay, turn around, and salute (shake). My owner thinks that I would make the perfect therapy dog, because she says my personality is so awesome. She also says that I’m a very handsome young pup and that I would be pretty to show, too. I am also neutered, up to date on shots, crate-trained and heartworm negative to boot. I am a big boy around 80 pounds and still growing. Please call the Sunburst Foundation at 910-622-0011 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. I can’t wait to meet you! I am sponsored by the Karl Miller family. Thanks!

Hello, my name is Claire and, as you can see, I’m one of the five dogs selected to be trained so I can live with one of the very lucky families that like dogs. I’m a very alert-type female Shepherd and Husky mix. I’m very loyal to my master. My last master moved to a place I could not go so I was put into a shelter and Monty’s Home has put me with a trainer at Pender Correctional Institution. And my trainer can tell you I’m very innocuous. I’m also very indelible. I’m 2-years-old and I love to play with toys. I have a very high energy level. Plus, I love to run around. I’ll always watch out for my master, as my master does for me. So give me a chance with you. Everyone should get a second chance in life. Thank you for taking time to view my picture and note. To adopt me, call 910-262-3055 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also fill out an application at www.montyshome.org. Written for Claire by her inmate trainer Jeffery D.
My name is Wilma and I am a colorful and beautiful Hound who was dumped at the Southport dump! Imagine that, how could someone do that to me? I was picked up by a couple of nice folks who got me to the wonderful people at Furever Friends Animal Rescue. I am about 1-yearold, spayed, vaccinated, house-trained and will be treated for heartworms. I would love to be an important part of your life. To make me part of your family, please call Furever Friends at 910-383-2100 (Monday through Friday between 8am-6pm).
A SHELTER FRIEND OF SE NORTH CAROLINA PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE
Hi, I’m Tessie! I’m a mixed-breed girl, just 3 to 4-yearsold, who was found as a stray on Bald Head Island. I am a very playful and active young lady. I would love having a yard to run in or a young adult who would take me jogging. I am very sociable and I love to play in the water. I love all people and get along well with other dogs. I only weigh around 50 pounds but, since I’m active, a home with small children is probably not the best place for me. Older kids and adults would be perfect, though! If you’d like to adopt me, please call P.E.A.R. at 910-675-0867 or send an email to email@example.com.

It was a rainy, cold day in October when I got lost; I guess my hunt master forgot about me. I won't forget how badly my feet hurt from the impacted nails in my pads. Even the deer I'd been chasing were snuggled in somewhere trying to keep warm. I was so thin and hungry that I wouldn’t have lasted much longer. The lady who found me took me to live with some very special people but it's a kennel, not a home. My name is Sunshine because Uncle Rodney used to tell me how bright I made his day. I would enjoy making your family complete. I'm a sweet, senior tri-colored Beagle with soft Beagle ears. I am spayed, current on vaccinations and heartworm negative. I walk well on a leash and do the happy tail when anyone mentions my name. No more hunting for me, at my age I just want to be loved, fed, and cuddled. If you can make my dreams come true, please call Denise at 910-862-1728. A Shelter Friend can be visited online at www.AShelterFriend.org and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ashelterfriend

PENDER ANIMAL RESCUE
Hi, my name is Thomas and I was rescued (along with my sister, Emily) by a nice couple. They can not keep us so we are looking for a forever home. I am a few months-old, like to play and don't mind being held. I have been a little afraid of the other cats in the house but I am getting used to them so I think I would be okay if you have other cats. Of course, it would be nice if it was just me and Emily. I don't know if I mind dogs or small children. Please call my foster dad at 910-381-1817 or email firstname.lastname@example.org and they can give you more information. You may also visit www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC250.html.
Hi there! I’m a Siamese mix kitten who is 11-months-old. My name is Peanut. I am a female and a torte point. I am very sweet but a little reserved when I first meet someone new. I am up to date on vaccinations, I tested negative for Feline Leukemia/FIV and I’ve been spayed. My new family must keep me indoors only. I am playful and entertaining to watch and I’m very neat and have good bathroom habits. To adopt me, please contact my Pender Animal Rescue foster mom, Tonia, at email@example.com or call her at 910-285-7663.
PLEASURE ISLAND PAWS We are Twix and Simba! We are a curious duo in search of our new forever home! Our owner had to move and couldn't take us with her, so the nice people at Pleasure Island Paws picked us up. We are Feline Leukemia and FIV negative, vaccinated, fixed, and ready to go to our new home. Please call 910-458-3000 for more info.
DOOK-N-DANCE FERRET SHELTER My name is Lucy and I’m a tiny little sable female. I am approximately 7-yearsold. I can be a bit of a nipper and I must go to a ferret knowledgeable person. I am starting to show beginning signs of adrenal and I take daily melatonin in my chicken gravy. If you are interested in sponsoring my care or adopting me, please contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 910-548-2831. You can also view other ferrets looking for homes by visiting www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC189.html.
NORMAN P. WIGGLE HOME FOR WAYWARD DOGS Want to fall in love? Come meet me! My name is Freddie. My plain black appearance may not stand out among the crowd but my personality most certainly does! I am a stand out because of my always sweet, always calm demeanor. I am about 5-years-old, neutered, housetrained, up to date on my vaccinations and current on heartworm prevention. I absolutely love people and I am great with small children, other dogs, and cats. I even know how to sit on command! Hello out there! I'm a 3-yearold goofy Boxer boy named Gerry. When I first came into rescue, I was skinny, scared, and had some yucky worms... but all that is behind me now! I'm healthy, happy, loving life and got a clean bill of health from the vet! I love other dogs and would prefer to be in a home that has another dog for me to play with! I'm house-trained and crate-trained, and such a love bug! My current foster home is not able to keep me much longer, so I'm really hoping I will find a forever family soon, or another foster home would be good, too. I'm such a good boy! Do you have room in your home and heart for me? If you would like more information about adopting or fostering me, or other Boxers in need, please visit the website at www.blueridgeboxerrescue.com or call or email Sonya Hutson at firstname.lastname@example.org or 864-419-5198. I am sponsored in honor of the birth of Seth Alexander, son of Sarah Bussey, veterinarian assistant at Pine Valley Animal Hospital.

CAPE FEAR GOLDEN RETRIEVER RESCUE
My name is Lucy and I’m a little over 2-years-old. I am back in foster care because my adoptive dad died and my adoptive mom is very sick and cannot take care of me anymore. I’m a really sweet girl and just looking for a great home. I’m spayed, up to date on my shots and heartworm negative. I’m crate-trained, housetrained and get along well with other dogs. I am extremely responsive to commands and know all the basics. You couldn't ask for a better leash walker, I do not pull or dilly dally. For more info, visit www.nobleshepherdrescue.com or call 910-431-6294. Oh, yeah...I’m good with kids, too!
Hey there. Me again. I can't believe I'm in another issue of PawPrints! My name is Oreo and I'm 2 to 3-years-old. They say I'm a Golden Retriever mix, but I think I am pure gold! I am housetrained, love to play with other dogs, and I even like cats! I'm really super sweet and am learning good manners. My foster parents really think I'm smart and a cuddle muffin. Yes, even at my size I would love to cuddle. I'm all ready to go to my new forever home. I've been neutered, am up to date on shots, and have been microchipped! If you are interested in giving me a chance, call the Cape Fear Golden Retriever Rescue at 910-791-5001 or log onto their site at www.cfgoldenrescue.com. I promise I won't let you down!
CAPE FEAR SAINT BERNARD RESCUE Sebastian is a goofy, playful, loving Saint Bernard puppy. He is about 2-years-old and has a unique ability to make people smile. He also has a perfect HEART-shape on his left side, in case it is not obvious how much love he has to offer! Apparently when Sebastian was little he was kept in a crate that was too small for him to stand up in, which caused his hind legs to become deformed. He was named Sebastian for the crab in The Little Mermaid because of the way he walks, but his awkward gait does not stop him from running and playing with gusto! Sebastian would love a home with kids to run and play and snuggle with. Call 910-547-4823 or email email@example.com for adoption info. You can also visit www.capefearsaintbernardrescue.com.
CAROLINA DAL PALS Hi, I'm Molly. I am an adorable 3-year-old Dalmatian mix. I was rescued after I was turned in to a shelter in 2007. They said I wouldn't listen but what they didn't know was - I am deaf. I found a wonderful home but unfortunately they are no longer able to keep me, so I am looking for a home again. I am very smart and don't even need my ears! I get along just fine. I would probably do best in a home as a single dog. I am spayed, up to date on shots, on heartworm prevention, and microchipped. If you are interested in giving a loving girl like me a home, please check out the Dal Pals website at www.dalpals.org or call 910-575-3141.
CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE If you would like a petite Basset Hound buddy, then I am your girl! My name is Milli. Don't let the gray muzzle fool you, I am turning gray way before I should and have fabulous stockings that any show dog would envy. I am a spunky, active girl of about 6years of age and I am housetrained. I like kids and even cats. If you would like a pint-sized puppy like Basset, then I just may be the girl for you. To make me a member of your family, please call 919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com.
SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS Looking for the perfect gentle Giant? Well, that's me, Blackjack. I am a 3-year-old Giant Schnauzer male who is as perfect as can be. It’s not often that a boy such as me comes into rescue. You see, I am house-trained, crate-trained, great with other dogs, love people, and I graduated at the top of my class in obedience school. I love to play in the water hose, I love to go for car rides, and I love to go on long walks. I am a big boy at 90 pounds, so smaller children might be intimidated by me, but older kids who want to play would be great. I am also heartworm negative, neutered, up to date on all of my shots, and microchipped. Please go to www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org to fill out an application to adopt me. Or, if you need one faxed or emailed, please call 910-264-8300. You MUST complete an application before you can meet me.
