Beach Girl Alert!

My name is Rue and I just love the soft sand, lapping waves and enticing smells of the beach. There’s only one problemI have no family to take me there! I’m an 8-year-old Yellow Lab with an A+ personality. I am extremely sweet, loving and smart. I get along with other dogs and thrive in a lively home, especially with teenagers or active adults to run and play with. I will do just about anything for a doggy treat or a tennis ball. Just imagine the possibilities! After playtime, I will lay next to you while you are working or watching TV. I am house-trained, spayed, vaccinated and I will sit on command. I am the complete companion, ready to move in and begin our life together! To learn more about me and how we can meet, please call or text Sean with A Shelter Friend at 910-918-5118

Extra special thanks to Cathy from Wiggle Butts Photography for helping me find a family to love. I had a fun morning on the beach at Fort Fisher, splashing in the surf, chasing tennis balls and making new friends. Could I meet you next?

Hey there, my name is Cinnamon!

At 3-years of age, I’m a Terrier mix girl who had a rough start to life. Due to my timid and shy ways, I do prefer to be the only pup in the home. My human friends at Paws Place do not believe I was socialized much. Thankfully, they have been so patient with me and let me settle in at my own pace. I know there is love in the world, and that my person is out there somewhere. A good routine, patience and support is all I need to find comfort in a new home. Once I do find my zen, I’m a laid-back, 43-pound snuggle bug! Could you give your heart to me? Paws Place is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 2pm and no appointment is necessary. You can also call 910-845-7297 or email info@pawsplace.org for adoption information.

I am sponsored by Tony and Peggy Durso. Thank you!

Get Your Lap Cat Right Here!

Come on, you know you can’t avoid my steady, hypnotic gaze. I’m waiting just for you!

My name is Toby and I’m a 7-year-old Siamese mix boy. I was once part of a loving home but sadly, my owner went into hospice care. I lived with two other kitties, Snowball and Petey, and you can read about them on page 13. We are all as sweet as can be, but we are bewildered by being in a shelter environment and just want to be part of a family again. We’re spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations and litterbox-trained. If you’re interested in giving a home to me or one of the others, call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022. The shelter is open 6 days a week so just pick your day and come on over!

COLUMBUS HUMANE SOCIETY

My name is George and I’m a 12-week-old kitten who had a rough start in life. I arrived as a scrawny, sickly, flea-covered baby whose eyes were still a little bit blue. I’ve come a long way since then. Unfortunately my left eye needed to be removed, but that doesn't hold me back! I’m a regular kitten, jumping around and bugging the adult cats. I’ve spent a lot of time in my foster mom’s arms so it looks like I might turn into a cuddle-bun. If you’d like more information or want to adopt me, please send an email to jhinson6@ec.rr.com or call 910-499-1194. ♥

OPERATION TOPCAT

Hi, I’m Tootsie, a 15-month-old female Pastel Torti. I came to the shelter with 4 babies in tow and they have been adopted - so now it’s my turn to find a loving indoor home. I may be shy when first meeting you but I will warm up in a couple of days and want pets and attention from you. I will meow when I want pets. I am sweet and friendly and I’m ok with other cats but have not met a dog. Older kids may be better for me. I’ve had all my vet care so I’m ready to find my loving home. To adopt me, call Operation Topcat at 910-200-0612 or send an email to otopcatnc@aol.com. ♥

CAROLINA ANIMAL PROTECTION SOCIETY

Hello, my name is Pug and I am ready for my furever home. I like feeding time, cuddle time and window sunbathing time. My family had to surrender me because they could no longer take care of me. My dream home would be with a family with other kitties and children I can socialize with and get my share of attention. My foster mom tells me that I am irresistibly sweet and one surefire way for you to find out how sweet I am is to come for a visit! Oh, by the way, I am fixed and have all my shots. For more information, please call 910-455-9682, send an email to capsrescue@yahoo.com or visit us online at www.capsrescue.com. ♥

WAGON TAILS FARM RESCUE

My name is Wyatt and I arrived scared and nervous, but I’m now a silly, affectionate puppy who loves sleeping in bed at night and giving lots of morning kisses. I love other dogs and need them in my life. You know that feeling, right? I enjoy treats and chew toys. I would do best in a home with a fenced yard and maybe even a doggy door. I’m a sensitive guy and prone to freezing up when scared, so training must be slow and gentle in a home with no kids. To apply, visit us online at www.wagontailsfarm.org/adopt and start the application process. For more info, call 910-375-3105. ♥

HAMILTON’S HEALING HEARTS

My name is Buddy and I’m a 10-year-old Chihuahua mix who is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, crate-trained, and house-trained. I do well with cats but would do best in a home with no other dogs or small kids because I’d like all of your attention. I have a lot of spunk and don’t act my age. I love with my whole heart and will follow you around. Please come out to meet me! To adopt, call 910-271-5170 or email hamiltonshealinghearts@gmail.com.

Hi, my name is Felicity and I’m a super sweet 2-year-old kitty. I love other cats but I’m not a fan of dogs. I’m current on vaccinations, I’ve already been spayed and I even have a microchip. I have been looking for a home for awhile now so I hope you’ll come for me soon. Please call, send an email or visit our website today! To adopt, please call 910-271-5170 or send an email to hamiltonshealinghearts@gmail.com.

For the past 1½-years I have been waiting for you to adopt me. My name is Callie and I love car rides and other big dogs. I’m super sweet, heartworm negative, spayed and vaccinated. I’m energetic and would do well with an active family in a cat-free home. I’m a Pit Bull mix who is around 3-years-old. Would you give me the chance to love you? Call 910-271-5170 or email hamiltonshealinghearts@gmail.com to adopt me.

A SHELTER FRIEND

My name is Mike and I was pulled from the county shelter more than 3-months-ago. I had a wonderful home waiting for me, but something came up and they were not able to welcome me. Now I am stuck in kennel boarding with only my toys to keep me company. I am getting very stressed - I NEED A NEW HOME ASAP! I am a great boy who loves snuggles, belly rubs, walks and of course, I love toys. I am neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm preventative. Help me get out of this cage by calling or texting Sean at 910-918-5118 or Silvia at 910-876-0539. Remember no one will ever love you like a dog who was once abandoned. ♥

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

I’m Coral, part of the Deep Sea Dogs group attending training classes at the prison through Monty’s Home. At 3-years-old, I’m a Hound girl who is a little timid, but I warm up quickly once I get to know you. I’m learning all the basic household manners to make me a wonderful pet. I am crate-trained and even come with my own crate, walking harness and all kinds of other stuff to make the transition to your home an easy one. To meet me, fill out an application at www.montyshome.org, call 732-693-8462 or email adopt@montyshome.org. ♥

COASTAL ANIMAL RESCUE EFFORT (CARE)

HI! I’m Stevie Cheezit. I am super-cute, love to purr, get belly rubs and play with crinkle toys. As you can see, I really cannot. At least, not very well. Due to severe infection, I had to have an eye removed and the other will also be gone before I am sent to a loving home. I’m not worried, though, because I hear great and I heard I am named after a very famous person who cannot see either. If you think you have a place in your home for me, please reach out to CARE at carewilmington@yahoo.com or call 910-256-2624. ♥

ROSEYS RESCUE

I’m Chaco and my brother (Wolfie) and I are looking for our furever home. I have to stay with him and watch out for him cause that's my job! We both tend to get a little shy in new places but we love meeting new people. We are German Shepherd/Lab/Husky mixes and 5-years-old. We are neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. I am heartworm negative, I love humans but Wolfie and I want to be your only dogs. We are big boys and we have super big hearts. We love our foster mom but we would love to be in a house and not have to go to adoption events. I want to share life with my brother on your couch! To adopt, email roseysweezers7@aol.com or call / text 910-547-0998. ♥

I'm Wolfie! I am 5-years-old and my brother, Chaco, and I have been at Roseys Rescue for 531 days without a home of our own. I think it's because we want to be adopted together. We are bonded and do everything together. We have been together all our lives and when our owner passed away in April 2022, we found ourselves at a rural shelter and our foster mom got us out. I am a German Shepherd/Lab/Husky mix and everyone tells me that I am good looking. Some of my favorite things are belly scratches and my stuffed sloth. I take him everywhere with me and it makes my foster mom laugh when I go potty with it. I am a big baby who weighs 85 pounds. I am neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Do you have the room for both of us? We would be your best friends! To adopt, please email roseysweezers7@aol.com or call / text 910-547-0998. ♥

My name is Hope and that's what I've been doing...hoping. I'm really in need of a more glamorous life to fit my personality. I want to be loved, played with and pampered! I don't really like cats and squirrels but I do love to chase them. I've been on TV, I've been in PawPrints Magazine and I still haven't found my match. I like other dogs, especially other Hound dogs. I'm around 2-years-old and I have a lot of love to give. Where are you?

I am spayed, current on vaccines, heartworm negative and ready for my next step. Could it be with you? To adopt, please email roseysweezers7@aol.com or call / text 910-547-0998. ♥

I’m Checkers, a beautiful 6-year-old female Calico. I am already spayed and vaccinated. You can often find me getting cozy under a blanket. I’m friendly but it takes me a little time to explore new people and places before getting completely comfortable. Once I’m familiar with my new surroundings, I’m the sweetest girl who loves being the center of attention. I’ve been around other cats, but a quiet home with no small children would be best for me. For more information, please call Carolina Animal Protection Society (CAPS) at 910-455-9682, send an email to capsrescue@yahoo.com or visit us online at www.capsrescue.com.

I am sponsored by Pawville. Thank you!

My name is Hebrew and I’m a 1-year-old Hound mix. I have a very sweet temperament and I’m great around other dogs. I love my toys, I walk well on a leash and I’m eager to learn my obedience-training.

I’m crate-trained, current on shots, heartworm negative, neutered and microchipped. I don’t try to dig out or jump a fence but I’m looking for a home with a fenced yard and an adventure loving family. To meet me, please contact Coastal Canine Rescue by emailing coastalcaninerescue@ec.rr.com or calling 910-470-5554.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Sprout, KC, Babe, Grace, Beauty, Frodo, Sassy, Max, Twinkle, Casper, Coach, Flower, Nell, Duffy, Melody, Whisper, Dolly, and Raspberry.

◄I’m a sweet Pit Bull girl who loves women and I take things very gently from your hands. At just 3-years-old, I’m looking for a patient person who will boost my confidence as I can be a bit shy. If you have another dog, bring him or her to meet me! ♥

►Hello there, I’m Raisen (A474091) and I’ve been told I’m a total sweetheart! I just adore getting chest and belly rubs and I can be a leaner while getting petted. At 1-year-old, I’m a neutered Pit Bull boy and my housemate was Jazera, who is also pictured on this page. I’m a playful, friendly fellow who, like all young pups, could benefit from basic training. You’ll truly love me! ♥

◄I’m a very beautiful black kitty girl named Oui (A47498) and I’d love to be your newest family member! I can be a bit shy at first but I enjoy being petted and I just love my cat nip and seafood flavored treats. You’ll see that with just a little patience I warm right up. They tell me I’m a young girl at 2-years-old and I’m already spayed. Would you come and meet me? Please say, “Oui, oui!” ♥

►My name is Baby Smalls (A382570) and I’m getting overlooked at the shelter. It’s a terrible shame because I’m a total sweetheart with a loveable personality. Younger cats and kittens get lots of attention and I’m 12-years-old. Of course, most people know that it’s very rewarding to live with a senior kitty - all we want to do is love and be loved. I get along with other felines and am very affectionate I’ll be a great companion, so please hurry on over! ♥

◄I’m a happy and fun Boxer boy who loves to play, as you can see from my photo. I’ll make you smile, especially when you see me chase water from the water hose! It’s a mystery that I’m still waiting for a home. I adore treats, games, toys and people! At 5-years of age, I’m a very sweet boy and I’d love to belong to a family just like yours. ◄It’s me, Nova, and I’m here to be your next wonderful companion! I’m a sweet Hound girl, just 1½-years-old. I am looking for my forever home and I’d love little kids to play with. A big fenced-in yard would be awesome because I have a lot of fun energy. I have tested positive for heartworms, but the shelter will be treating me for that and you can adopt me at any time. Come on over and meet me! ♥

►I’m Skeeter, a sweet boy with creamy orange fur. I enjoy meeting new people and also get along well with other cats. I’m a playful fellow, too, and enjoy chasing the laser light all around the room! My sister and I came here many months ago. She has found her forever home and I am more than ready to find mine. At 1-year-old, I’m neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and litterbox-trained. Come scoop me up! ♥

◄On the search for a gorgeous Lap Cat? How about me, I’m Petey! I have always been part of a loving home, but my owner recently went into hospice care and now I’m at the shelter with my friends Toby (pictured on page 4) and Snowball, who is also pictured on this page. We are all very confused about being in a shelter and just want to be family members again. I’m 7-years-old and we are all fixed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. We are also as sweet as can be. Come get to know us, please! ♥

◄I’ve got a sad story to tell but I’m hoping it has a happy ending! My name is Snowball and I’m a 7-yearold Siamese mix girl who once was part of a loving family but my owner had to go into hospice care.

I’m so perplexed at being in a shelter instead of a home. Petey, pictured on this page, is my friend and he’s in the same position. I also have a brother named Toby, pictured on page 4. Won’t you come meet us? We’re healthy lap cats and ready to be adopted. ♥

◄Hi there, I’m Duke! I’m a 4-year-old Black Lab/Pit mix. I’m a timid pup which makes my human friends believe that some people in my past have not been very nice to me. I’m looking for a different sort of person, one who is very patient with a big, soft heart. I love going for walks and playing in the water. I’m good with other dogs and need a fenced-in yard. I do have heartworms, but the shelter will treat me and you can adopt me at any time! Let’s go! ♥

◄Hey there, I’m a darling, friendly girl named Riley! I celebrated my first birthday on November 25, 2022. Poor me, I’ve been bounced around in four different places in my first year of life, and I’m ready to settle down in my forever home! I am a beautiful Staffordshire Bull Terrier, black and white in color, spayed and up to date on vaccines.

Please come and make me your newest family member! ♥

Save lives…please spay or neuter your pets!

My friends at the shelter say I am, and I quote, an “absolutely loveable boy”. That’s so good to hear! Life has been a little rough but with friends like these, I know it’s getting better! You see, I came to the shelter after being hit by a car, but my wounds have healed up and I’ve finished all of my medications. I’m a 3-year-old neutered Pit mix boy and my ID number is A471136. I’m very sweet and active, but I can also be lazy, too! I love to give kisses and am gentle with my mouth when taking things out of your hands. Don’t I sound like a true lover-boy? Well, why not come meet me? I’m at New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit in Wilmington. Adoption hours are Monday - Friday from 11am to 3:30pm and on Saturday from 8am to 11:30am. For info, call 910-798-7500.

◄▲We are an adorable duo who were born 3/18/23 and we are searching for our forever homes. My name is Luna and I’m a pretty black and white girl. I’m adventurous, playful and very affectionate. I’m a social butterfly who is good with other cats. I’m the sweetest furball who loves to be petted. My sister, Socks, is a gentle medium-haired tuxedo girl who loves to play with other cats and chase toys. She is cuddly and loves to be held and that means she’s ready to bring you lots of love. We are current on vaccinations, tested negative for Feline Leukemia/FIV and are spayed. ♥

◄Hi, I’m a 2-year-old girl named Sabrina! I’m spayed and polydactyl on my front paws. I’m affectionate, playful and get along with cats. I have received all of my vaccinations, I tested negative for FeLV/FIV and I successfully completed stone removal surgery and treatment for a urinary condition early this year. I am completely healthy now and I eat a urinary tract food for prevention. ♥

►Yep, still here. I’m really tired of being overlooked so I’m wearing this Zorro mustache and Indiana Jones hat to try and get your attention. Did it work? I sure hope so. While I’m no daredevil archaeologist, I would really dig being your new best friend. My name is Clyde and I was born in September 2022. I enjoy the simple pleasures in life: cardboard boxes, long conversations, cuddles, belly rubs and being petted. I can make biscuits anywhere! I purr super loud when you pet or hold me. I get along very well with cats of all ages and love to hang out with cat buddies. I have already been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and tested FIV/FeLV negative. I’m ready to bring lots of fun and joy to my forever home!

◄Hi, my name is Shadow and I’m a 16-year-old declawed grey Tabby. I’m a sweet girl who is up for adoption. My parents retired and travel quite often and think I would be happier with a family who is always home. I am healthy, spayed, up to date on shots, very affectionate and friendly. I even get along with dogs. I love to climb and perch in high places so I can take in my surroundings. ♥

►I’m a spayed 11-month-old girl named Gigi. I get along with kids, cats and dogs and love to be around humans! I’m a super happy and very affectionate cat who loves to play pickle ball. I am already spayed and vaccinated and I need a loving home! ♥

◄I’m Marlow, a 9-month-old, super sweet Tabby girl. I was rescued from being attacked by tomcats. I have since been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and take flea prevention. I’m well-mannered and prefer to stay low on the floor - no knocking over things or jumping on counters. I love to be petted and sit close to you. I will do well in any kind of home environment and get along with cats and dogs. ♥

►Meow, I’m a 6-month-old neutered boy named Sir Purr. I am a Lap Kitty and will curl up with you at bedtime. I got my name because my purring machine is always on loud. I am up to date on vaccinations, tested negative for FeLV/FIV, take flea medication and I’m ready for my forever home! I even get along with young children and cats of all ages! ♥

"Here's a little ditty about Jack and Diane, two American kids doing the best they can." I am Jack, a sweet and friendly 3-month-old boy who Adopt-an-ANGEL rescued from a shelter. We are both good with cats and older kids, and not sure about dogs. Diane, my sister, is a playful, friendly girl, and a real Lap Kitten. She is more outgoing than me, but I am learning to trust people. We were originally slated for a trap, neuter, return program, but the group thought we could be saved from a life outdoors with a little TLC. We are much more friendly now as a result. Meet us at Petsense at 1215 West Gate Drive in Leland or call Sherry at 910-523-1254. We do not have to be adopted together but, of course, we would love it if that happened. We are best suited for quiet, less active homes and with people who will be patient with us and give us more TLC. For more info, updates and upcoming adoption events, visit us online at www.adoptanangel.net or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/adoptanangelnc.

I am sponsored in honor of all the wonderful foster mommies and daddies who care for homeless animals.

What’s up dog lovers? My name is Chevy and I’m a sweet, 22 pound Miniature Pinscher mix. I’m house-trained and crate-trained and with a proper introduction, I do well with other dogs. I am currently being fostered with six other dogs and do great (although I prefer to eat solo).

I’m great with cats, 6-years-old, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. I love to sleep in bed and curl up with you at night and watch TV. If you would like to adopt me or would like more info, call Hamilton’s Healing Hearts at 910-271-5170 or email hamiltonshealinghearts@gmail.com.

I am sponsored by Cindy Meyers in loving memory of Harley, Murphy and Sophie.

◄We are Sansa (Tortie) and Joellie (Tabby) and we’re bonded best friends. I was an animal cruelty case because I was dunked in a tub of motor oil as a kitten. Despite that event, I still love people and am a lap magnet. My friend, Joellie, is blind and required a surgical procedure for eyelid agenesis. You'd never know she’s blind, though, since she has the confidence to get the zoomies all over the house and seek humans out for affection. We are both very loving lap cats with lots of personality. We must be adopted together and our ideal home would be on the calmer side with no infants or toddlers. Come meet us in our foster home. ♥

►My name is Harper and I’m an affectionate, 1½-year-old special needs girl. Once I warm up to you (which takes a week or two), I am a constant companion and cuddle bug who loves being held. I will literally follow you everywhere! When not loving on my foster parents, I enjoy playing with plastic springs and staring out the window. I got in a serious accident as a kitten and lost my tail. I’m lucky to be alive, but I have some minor incontinence issues. As long as I’m not overfed and I have a litterbox with high walls, I always poop in the box, but might miss rarely and leave one right outside the box. I urinate in the box too, but I sometimes dribble a little if I’m lying down somewhere for too long. Laying on a washable blanket really helps. My incontinence issues are minor and I will be your best buddy forever if you will give me a chance. ♥

►My name is Pecan Pie and I am a sweet, special needs kitty. I love to talk and chirp for attention. I get along very well with other cats and would be ideal as a companion for your existing cat. I’m very curious and must inspect everything thoroughly, for safety of course. My new favorite hobby is watching the fish tank - I’ll stare all day. I’m also a big fan of ear scratches and string toys. Early in life, I suffered an injury to my backside, which severed many nerve endings and made me mildly incontinent. I don’t have many accidents at all, maybe only once every few weeks. I do try to make it by the litterbox, so my condition is manageable. I also don’t do the best with very young children. I’ve been looking for a forever home for over a year now. Will you adopt me? ♥

►My name is Miss Tuna and I am a 2-year-old Ticked Tabby, a rare tabby pattern. One may see my face and think I am a ticked off Tabby, but I'm actually a little doll. I am sweet, I like to cuddle, but I also enjoy my space while staying close by. I'm not overly skittish but can be a little wary of strangers, so some patience will be needed while I get used to my new people. I haven't been around kids or dogs. I'm a little talker, so if you're looking for a sweet, chatty girl, send a message so we can meet up. ♥

◄I’m Kanu, a quintessential goofball. I am 7-years-old and more loving than you can imagine. I like to sit right on top of my foster dad’s head and either sleep or groom. I love to play and I do great with other cats, but my favorite thing to do is cuddle with you. I would not do great with toddlers and infants as I can get so excited with attention that I get overstimulated. I had been surviving on the streets for a long time and when I was rescued, I was completely emaciated and had a broken front tooth. My tooth has been removed, the other teeth cleaned, and I have gained back all my weight...and then some. Need a best buddy, pick me! ♥

►We’re Sissy and Sally, the perfect duo providing you with the best of both worlds. My name is Sissy and I am the leader. With my bold personality you will never have to question what I need, because you’ll be told. But I’m also very loving and social, and enjoy exploring. My sister, Sally, is more laid back and gentle. You will always find her in a window if she’s not asking for pets or cuddles. There’s nothing better than watching the beautiful world go by. Both of us are looking for the perfect forever home together. Message us to set up a meeting in our foster home as we do not attend adoption fairs. ♥

Hi, my name is Dodge and I am 10-weeks-old and weigh 15 pounds. All of my brothers are named after cars because we lived in an auto parts salvage yard. Life was difficult for all of us because it was so very hot, and food was scarce. My sweet young mom, who has now been adopted, was a junkyard dog trapped in a never-ending cycle of suffering and hardship until a kindhearted woman started to look after us in the hopes of gaining our trust. Eventually, she was able to catch all of us and find loving foster homes. Now I’m looking to find my forever loving home that’s filled with kisses and belly rubs. OCPAW was contacted and asked if they could help us, which they did, so we have been checked by Holly Ridge Veterinary Clinic and received our first round of vaccinations and are scheduled to receive further vetting. If you have questions about me or my siblings, call Onslow County Partners for Animal Welfare at 269-998-0837 (ask for Tiffany), email ocpaw@yahoo.com, or visit ocpaw.com and submit an adoption application.

I am sponsored by Ocean Grill and Tiki Bar in Carolina Beach and in loving memory of Bess and beach dogs everywhere.

Hello friends,

I’m Larry! I’m a tri-pod full of snuggles who absolutely adores belly rubs. I spend my days snoozing in my cat bed or frolicking with my toys, when I’m not in the arms of one of the employees. I would thrive in a laid-back home full of cuddles and kisses. A Good Samaritan found me on the side of the road where it’s assumed I was either thrown, hit by, or fell from a car! I had no use of my left front leg, so that’s why I'm now a three-legged kitty. At 4 to 5-months-old, I am neutered, vaccinated, litterbox-trained and microchipped, If you are interested in meeting me or learning more about me, please call 910-256-2624 or send an email to carewilmington@yahoo.com.

I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (CARE).

◄Bellatrix Lestrange is my name! Unlike the Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series, I am your typical 32-pound, 5-month-old pup! Like most puppies, I am very active, I love to play and I am very curious! They tell me I am pretty cute, too! I am learning to walk on a leash and harness so that when I meet my furever family, we can go on all of the adventures! I think I’m exactly what your family needs, so you should come and meet me soon! ♥

◄Hi, I am Sonya, a 2-year-old mixedbreed girl who came to Paws Place reserved, lost, and confused. The humans here have big hearts, though, so I’ve really been coming out of my shell! I like to go on walks, but very slow ones. I love to play in the pools and run around in the play yard. I still get a little scared, but once I know you are a friend I will cover you in kisses! I really think I could be the perfect companion for someone, so you should defintely come and say hi! ♥

▲Professor Minerva McGonagall at your service! Just like Minerva McGonagall from the Harry Potter series, I’m the “headmistress” of the kennel, no matter what my kennel mates say. At 5-months-old, I’m a puppy who has been told that I am “the best girl” a time or two! I am learning how to walk on a leash so that when you come visit I can show you how good I am! We could be the perfect match! ♥

►Hi, I am Girly Girl! I am totally supersweet and I love a good belly rub! At 7-years-young and 60 pounds, I’m a Shepherd mix who is looking for some new friends to love! As much as I do adore to cuddle up and get all the belly rubs, I also like to go on walks and be outside. I’m going through heartworm treatment now but I can still be adopted. I must take it easy for a bit, but soon the treatment will be complete and I can play all I want! ♥

▲Hi, my name is Laramie! Wanna know a fun fact? I am named after a town in Wyoming! At about 4-years of age, I’m a mixed breed girl who weighs in at 24 pounds. I am a very sweet girl but I must admit, I am very shy at first. Once I warm up to you, I am full of love. Please come to the shelter and meet me. I’d love to be your new girl! ♥

◄I am Luna Lovegood, the most fashionable, eager to learn, kindhearted Ravenclaw you will ever meet! I may not be the actual Luna Lovegood, but like her I am eager to learn new tricks, super-loveable and I am known to make these walking harnesses look good! At just 5-months-old, I am 16 pounds of pure cuteness! I am your typical playful, curious, and loveable puppy! If you are looking for a new family member to add to the family Christmas card this year, I am the perfect girl for you and I cannot wait to meet you! ♥

◄I’m Phoenix, a grateful young adult girl who was rescued from the street as I was giving birth to four adorable kittens. My life was saved weeks later when I was rushed to the hospital with acute mastitis and sepsis. Slowly recovering, I have turned out to be a sweet, affectionate cat who, to everyone’s surprise, is very playful! I love to bat my toys around and chase them down the hall. I get along well with other cats and love to hang out near my humans. To meet me, please call or text 910-599-2755. ♥

►When I was 4-weeks old, I was found sitting in a bucket on the side of the road in the July heat, together with my four siblings. We were thirsty, and hungry, and frankly quite desperate. But a nice young woman picked us up and the rest is history. My name is PopTart and I’m the petite one in the family; my blue-grey fur is soft, and my eyes gorgeous. At 3-months-old, I’m a sweet and loving girl who adores my humans. I'd love to be adopted with one of my siblings! Call or text 910-599-2755 today! ♥

◄My name is Winter and I’m a lucky little boy! As a tiny kitten, I was abandoned, together with my litter mates, in a cardboard box by Walmart. A kind visitor from out of town spotted the box and called Cat Adoption Team. Because of infection that damaged one of my eyes beyond repair, I had to have the eye removed. I’m a sweet, outgoing 3-month-old Tabby boy who loves to snuggle with my human. I also love to play with my sister Rebecca. I get along well with other cats, dogs, adult humans, and kids. To meet me and my sister, call or text Cat Adoption Team at 910-599-2755. ♥

◄I’m Gravy, one of five kittens found in a bucket on the side of the road. It was tight in there and hot (July, duh!) and I was thirsty and hungry. Luckily, we were found quickly and survived. I’m a 3-month-old boy, blue/gray in color, and I love to play with my toys and my siblings, and even the dog. And yes, I'm all sweetness and love to be held. I would love to be adopted with my sister PopTart who is pictured on this page. Please call or text 910-599-2755 to meet us! ♥

◄I’m a lucky little girl named Rebecca! As a tiny kitten, I was abandoned, together with my litter mates, in a cardboard box by Walmart. A kind visitor from out of town spotted the box and called Cat Adoption Team. Because of infection that damaged one of my eyes beyond repair, I had to have the eye removed. At 3-months of age, I’m a sweet, quiet Tortoiseshell kitten who loves to be petted. I love to play with my brother Winter, and I get along well with other cats, dogs, adult humans, and kids. To meet me and my brother, please give my friends a call or text at 910-599-2755. ♥

◄Sitting in a bucket on the side of the road in the July heat is not a 4-week old kitten's first choice of playpen. But that is where I found myself, together with my four siblings. My name is Muffin and, despite a rough start in life, I am outgoing, curious, and full of life. At just 3-months of age, I’m a beautiful dilute Tortoiseshell who loves to play with toys and with my siblings. I’ve also made friends with the dog at my foster home. Check out this photo of me and him for proof! I hope you’ll call or text 910-599-2755 to meet me and my siblings. It would be wonderful to be part of a family and feel loved all the days of my life. ♥

My name is Grace and I am a Malamute, Husky, Gray Wolf (17%), and German Shepherd mix. I am estimated to be around 3-years-old, and I am big (weighing close to 90 pounds), so the family who wants me should have plenty of space. I need a family who is experienced with Malamutes and Wolfdogs. I am vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, cratetrained, leash-trained, house-trained, and heartworm negative. I love my swimming pool and I love to play fetch but my favorite thing is riding in the car! I will need to be your only pet as I’m not good with cats or dogs. I do love kids of ALL ages. My home must have a 6-foot, securely fenced-in yard, as I will jump over anything smaller. I am a very affectionate gal and would love to run around and cuddle with you on the couch. Due to hybrid laws, I am not able to live in certain counties, so Roseys Rescue will have to look into your county laws before you adopt me. BLUE MARLIN

My friends here at Feline Urgent Rescue and Rehab call me Blue Marlin. I'm just the sweetest, gentlest boy who is a teensy bit shy. My fur is so incredibly soft and I really love to be petted! I get along great with all the other kitties here and it should come as no surprise but everyone at FURR loves me. I have a brother named Perch and we look just alike. Although, he’s a little pudgy and loves a good belly rub. You can adopt both of us together if you’d like or you can just adopt me. What's more beautiful than a silvery smooth Russian Blue mix? Not much! Check out videos of me at www.catfurr.org.

VOLUNTEER: There are lots of ways to help our cause, from raising awareness about spaying/neutering, to helping with fundraisers or simply volunteering time to care for the kitties!

MAMA HOOVER

I’ve had it rough in life and even had a litter of kittens in the woods all by myself. As I was a starving stray, I could not feed or save them. Despite my hardships and heartbreak, I am very grateful to Feline Urgent Rescue and Rehab for saving me. My name is Mama Hoover and I am the sweetest little kitty ever! I really love to be picked up and held and brushed and just any gentle contact is genuinely appreciated. I was so lonely for so long and I'm just trying to make up for lost time! Please come out and visit with me. You'll be so glad you did! To watch videos of me, visit www.catfurr.org.

Happy Tails: Where Is He Now?

Abe Winkin, renamed Burt Macklin, last featured in April 2023

“I adopted this sweet boy back in April and I have PawPrints Magazine to thank for that!”, says Caitlyn Cooper of Abe Winkin, the latest addition to her furry family. “I wasn’t looking for another dog but there was just something so special about him.”

Having lived with Abe for almost half a year now, Caitlyn still feels that remarkable pull which led her to him when he was simply an image on paper. Here, she describes those first glimpses of Abe and what life has been like for them since:

Eye Contact: “I always am excited to look at PawPrints Magazine every time it gets delivered to Stone Garden, where I work. I saw Abe in there three or four months in a row and couldn’t understand why he hadn’t been adopted! His sweet eyes drew me in immediately, you could just see all the love he had to give. Of course, I decided I had to meet him and I fell in love with him instantly. I began the adoption process with CARE (Coastal Animal Rescue Effort) and about a month later he was finally home!”

Colorful Character: “For a moment I thought I would keep his name, but Abe just never fit. The name Burt Macklin is from the show “Parks and Recreation.” It’s a character that Andy Dwyer does on the show that I found to be so funny, so when a friend brought up the name I knew that had to be it.”

Multi-Dog Magic: “He melted into my life so easily like he was always meant to be there. He bonded fast with my two other large dogs and I couldn’t be happier. Watching them play and snuggle fills me with so much joy. I love the way he snuggles, even though he’s a heavy boy all he wants is to lay his whole body on yours. He also likes to sit on the porch chairs like he’s a person and that always makes me laugh.”

Old Friends Reunited: “I took Burty Boy by Atlantic Animal Hospital where CARE is and where I rescued him from and it made me so happy to see everyone greet him with such excitement and love. We had a great day!”

Totally Smitten: “Burt’s presence just brings sooo much happiness to my life and everyone he meets. I’ve never met such a loving boy. I hate it took so long for Burt to find his family, but I feel so lucky it got to be with me, and I truly felt like it was meant to be. I couldn't picture my life without him and I’m just overwhelmed with love when I look at him. He deserves all the happiness in the world and I feel honored I get to spend the rest of his life with him showing him what it’s like to be loved and cared for. I’d do anything for that beefy boy.”

“Despite the not-so-good life he had for the first few years of his life, he remains the happiest, most loving boy,” says Caitlyn of

Hi there, I’m Summer, a 43-pound Husky mix girl with stunning eyes! I recently had surgery and am now one of the two tri-pawds here at Paws Place but, do not worry, I have healed up and am better than ever! I am still learning how to hop around on three legs, but I’d say I am almost a professional now! I am 43-pounds of pure love, and I love to cuddle with my human friends. Now, do not let the cuddle bug side of me fool you, I’m also a very active 1-year-old. I enjoy walks and adventures just as much as I love my naps. I believe once you meet me, you will be hypnotized by my ocean-blue eyes! I sure do hope to find my forever home so I can share all of this love I have to give. Paws Place is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 2pm, and no appointment is necessary. You can also call 910-845-7297 or email info@pawsplace.org to find out more. Can’t wait to meet you!

I am sponsored by Pawville. Thank you!

Hi, my name is Bobbie! I was once a stray who was turned in to a shelter with a severe tail injury and my 3 babies! The shelter staff reached out to CARE, a medical-needs rescue, to see if I was a candidate and luckily I was! After some TLC, a tail amputation and some shots, I am now ready to find a home. I am sweet, adventurous and full of spunk. I thoroughly enjoy playing on my 3-level cat tree and lounging on a heating pad. I will quickly become your shadow and make a great addition to your home. I am also spayed, microchipped, litterbox-trained and negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia. I think I would love to have siblings of my own...dogs or cats with the understanding that it will take a little bit of time for me to adjust. Thank you for taking the time to read about me. I can't wait to find my new family to love and cuddle with! Call CARE at 910-256-2624 or send an email to carewilmington@yahoo.com and let’s meet soon!

◄Hi everyone, my name is Wallen I am only about 4-years-old and 70 pounds of cuteness (well that's what my foster parents say). I wasn't in a very good situation but now I'm so excited to start my new life. You see, I really didn't have a lot of time with my humans and I had really itchy skin all the time! I was kinda miserable but then these really nice people said they could help me and off I went to the vet. I'm ALL better now. I’m heartworm negative and my very handsome fur is all back. I'm a pretty attractive boy, if I do say so myself. I am fully vaccinated and will be neutered soon. I like other pups, if they are ladies. I think I might be ok with boys (if introduced slowly) but hey, I think I'm more of a ladies man! I’d really love my own fenced yard for my zoomies. My foster parents are helping me learn lots of commands and manners. ♥

◄My name is Pollo and my doggie Tinder profile reads as follows: I like long strolls on the beach; nice dinners with my favorite kibbles; playing and doing zoomies in a fenced yard; and cool nights sitting outside with my peeps. I actually love running around doing zoomies, I love water (the Labrador in me) and I love any kind of treats and toys. That shouldn't surprise you because I am only 8-months-old. I went to the doggy doctor and she said I was good to go. I’ve been spayed and microchipped and take monthly heartworm prevention. I would enjoy a young furry brother to play with. If you want to meet me, please let my peeps know. ♥

◄I’m Abella, but my people call me Bella for short and I kinda like that! I am 2 to 3-years-old and my people tell me I'm beautiful! I love all fur babies (even the meowing kind). I am really good at patrolling your yard and keeping you safe from those little critters that run along the fence and eat nuts. Speaking of fences, I sure would like one of them to do zoomies in. I also really like snuggling and my peeps tell me I'm a good girl who is well-mannered. I’m vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. I would really LOVE having a fur brother to play with. I would be ok by myself, but sure do like to have other furry friends. I hope you'll want to meet me. ♥

►I’m Hawaii and I was named in honor of the place where a lot of my fur brothers and sisters are in big trouble from a fire. I am just a little thing but I had 6 babies. Wowza! My babies' names are also in honor of our friends in Hawaii and I’m still learning how to spell them but that's ok. My foster people will take really good care of them and find them the bestest homes when they are ready. I'm a Terrier mix and pretty cute if I say so myself. I even have my girlish figure back. I still have to go to the doggy doctor a couple more times, but that's ok, I'm not worried. My people said they will take care of all of that, so you don't need to worry either. I hope you want to give me a chance. Wag at you soon! ♥

►My name is Pixie but my foster mom calls me Pixie Doodle. I guess it's because she really loves me. I am about 5-years-old and not very big though I am watching my summer weight. I'm kinda scared of big dogs but do ok with pups my size or smaller when you let me meet them a little slowly. Since I never had all the stuff pups get when they live in a home filled with love, I get nervous sometimes. I’ve been spayed and vaccinated but I tested positive for heartworms. My rescue people told me not to worry because my treatments are covered and will begin soon. I can't wait for my furever home. I hope you want to meet me. I'm waiting with my paws crossed. ♥

►My name is Snowflake and I'm just a youngin, about 4-months-old. I am spayed and microchipped. I got some of my shots (ouch) but I think I need more, but that's ok, I won’t cry. Everyone tells me how beautiful I am and no one makes fun of my two different colored eyes. They make me extra special and I probably have a lot of Husky in me. I am learning to be in a house with my foster family and my two fur step-siblings. They're kinda big so I was a little scared of them, but I think they’re pretty cool now. My furever home should have a fenced yard and be familiar with my breed. I guess they mean that Husky thing? All I know is - I'm no longer scared and I can't wait to find my very own furever family! ♥

When will it be my turn to go home? Hi, my name is Maggie and I’m a beautiful, striped Tabby girl who’s been waiting for a family since 2021! At just 2-years of age, I’m a sweet, friendly and playful cat. I enjoy all kinds of toys, especially chasing the laser light around the room. I’m friendly with other felines and wouldn’t mind living with a dog as long as he’s friendly to me. And yes, I’m in great health and am already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. No one can understand why I’ve been sitting at the shelter for so long. Won’t you please come and get to know me? I’m at Pender County Humane Society in Burgaw. The shelter is open six days a week, so give them a call at 910-259-7022 for visiting hours!

I am sponsored by the Furry Friends Re-sale Shop in honor and memory of all the animals who've passed through the doors of Pender County Humane Society.

Hi there! I’m Ellie, a petite 32-pound Terrier who just celebrated my 2nd birthday! Time flies when you’re having fun! As you can see, I am pretty cute. I mean, look at these ears! Since my arrival at Paws Place, the humans have been working hard to teach me all the things. I have been learning leash manners, and a few other tricks. I love going on walks, and am still very much a puppy, so I also love to play, run, and go on adventures. But don’t get me wrong, I do love a good cuddle session on the couch! I would love to find a human who also enjoys adventures, as well as a low-key movie night sometimes. Anyway, if you are looking for a new adventure buddy, or just a shoulder to cry on while watching those sad movies humans like, I am your girl! If you stop by, I promise you won’t miss me, just look for my ears! The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 2pm, and no appointment is necessary. You can also call 910-845-7297 or email info@pawsplace.org to find out more.

I am sponsored by The Tree House Gang at Saltscapes Landscaping. Thank you!

▲Kitten Season is still in full swing at SOAR! We are a bonded brother and sister pair who would love to be adopted together. At 5-months-old, we are curious, friendly, playful and full of love. We are also spayed/ neutered, vaccinated and litterbox trained. Come visit, we’ll be waiting to melt your heart and make you smile! ♥

►Willy is the name and being cute is my game! For some reason they keep saying I’m “special needs”something about being FeLV+ (that’s Feline Leukemia). But I feel fine and I really need no special care but to be an inside-only cat who receives lots of love! I’m sweet and funny and I can’t wait to meet you. I’m also neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. ♥

◄We are a brother and sister pair who would love to be adopted into loving homes! I’m the orange Tabby on the right and I’m a boy. My sister, on the left, is a pretty dilute Calico. We would be a great addition to any home and we have lots of love to share. We are vaccinated and litterbox-trained and you’ll receive a voucher for our spay and neuter when we’re adopted. Don’t wait - come on over and meet us today! ♥

◄Darling Kitten Alert! I’m relaxing in this cozy bed and wondering why all my siblings have been adopted and I’m still here? I’m thinking it’s because the best is always saved for last! At 6-months of age, I’m an extremely handsome, cuddly and loveable boy. I don’t have a name, but I’m sure you’ll think up a good one for me! Come visit! ♥

SOAR is open to the public on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am to Noon, and Saturday from 8am to Noon.

Closed on Thursday and Sunday.

▲►Kittens love to play hard, then nap to recharge - and we’re no exceptions! We are two Tabby brothers - one with black stripes and one with orange - and we’re on the search for loving families! We’re vaccinated and litterbox-trained and we come with vouchers for our neuter surgery. Please come see how sweet we are in person! ♥

◄My name is Cooper and I’m an American Foxhound. It would make me so very happy to meet you! I’m a pretty chill boy, despite the warm weather, and I have good manners upon meeting new people. I’m already neutered and vaccinated and am quite handsome, if I do say so myself. Could you make a plan to head on out here? ♥

Where are all my Husky lovers? I’m waiting right here for you!

As you can see, I’m a stunning boy. One of my eyes is brown and the other is ice-blue!

It’s estimated that I’m about 3-years-old and my ID number is A474011

Like all young pups, basic training will bring out my full potential and help us bond, too! I’m very food motivated, as well. If you have Husky experience, that’s a plus! And if you have another dog, please bring him or her out for a meet and greet. I’m at New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit in Wilmington. Adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 11am to 3:30pm and on Saturday from 8am to 11:30am. For more information, call 910-798-7500.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Nolan, a compassionate dog lover.

This pretty smile could be the first thing you see every morning if only you’ll adopt me!

At just 1½years-old, I’m a Pit Bull girl named Bitsy (A468858) and I have a fun-loving, goofy personality. I enjoy

getting attention from the staff and am very sweet with them. I like to run and play in the shelter’s fenced-in yard and would love to be part of an active family. I absolutely adore my treats and dental chews, and I’m already spayed, up to date on vaccines and ready to be yours! Oh, if you have another dog, please bring him or her out to meet me!

You’ll find me at New Hanover Sheriff's Office Animal Services Unit. Adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 11am to 3:30pm and on Saturday from 8am to 11:30am. For more information, please call 910-798-7500.

My name is Fish! I am a wonderful young dog who is about 3-years of age. I am a 50 pound Pit Bull mix and I need someone familiar with my breed. I do great with dogs, kids and everyone I meet. I am house-trained, I’ve had some obedience-training and I am learning good manners from my foster mom. You should see her walk me with five other dogs at the same time. She says I am a real character. I recently went to a fundraiser at a local brewery and I stole the show! Everyone loved me and I loved everyone. If you would like to adopt me, call Sam with Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-443-7507 or visit www.adoptanangel.net.

▲We are a litter of five 3-month-old kittens. My name is Millie (top left) and I’m a solid gray female. I have one brother, Moe (top middle), and three sisters, Mia (top right), Missy (bottom left) and Marci (bottom right). My family is a lot of fun and we have a great time playing together, but the problem is all of my sisters and my brother look so much alike that nobody can tell who is who! If you want to adopt one or two of us, you’ll have to guess who you’re getting. ♥

►I’m Hudson, a 4-month-old boy with long, buff-colored hair. I’m not as high-energy as Otis (pictured below) but we are best friends and play together all the time. I prefer running to climbing and I run everywhere. I do have trouble stopping because my feet have so much hair on them. So if you’re looking for one great kitten come see me and if you’re looking for a perfect pair come grab both of us. ♥

►Hi, I’m Otis. I’m 5-months-old and I have silvery gray long hair. I’m very friendly and I love to help you with whatever you’re doing. I also love to climb stuff. So, if you’re looking for me and you have searched all of the nooks and crannies down low, try looking up! ♥

►If you are looking for a new feline friend who is 1-year-old, friendly and well-behaved, come meet me. My name is Lydia. I’m very quiet, but I love attention. You can pat me, scratch me, comb my hair, rub my ears, whatever you want. As long as I’m getting your attention, I’m happy. I’m really pretty, with long black and white hair.♥

▲Hello, I’m Teagan and this is my sister, Tinker (pictured on the right). Our foster Mom thinks we’re the best kittens! She says we should be adopted right away because we’re so sweet. We are 3-months-old and ready to go to a forever home. You just need to remember to play very gently with us so we don’t get over-stimulated and start acting like a crazy cat! ♥

►Howdy! Why would someone name a cat Utah when he has always lived in North Carolina? I’m a 6-month-old Tabby with white, longhaired fur. I’m shy at first, but I like to lay quietly in a nice warm lap. Maybe I’ll get brave enough to play later but, for now, your lap is wonderful. I’m a little scared at Cat Tails, so I’d much prefer a quiet house, like yours!

◄Hello from me, Canelo! I'm a handsome, Plott Hound mix with a very unique smile! I am Tigre's brother, but we do not need to be adopted together. I have lots of good energy and I am still learning things at around 8-months of age. I weigh around 40 pounds, but I could reach 60 pounds when I’m fully grown. I love to give kisses and cuddle and I think I'm a Lap Dog! I am great with people and playful with dogs, but may be a bit too interested in cats. If you have a fenced backyard or plenty of time to walk me, call Sherry at 910-523-1254 or come meet me at Petco on Saturdays from 11:30am to 3:30pm. ♥

◄My name is Loki! I am very talkative and sweet, I am friendly and outgoing and I’m just an overall great guy. I am 2 to 3-years-old. My caregiver couldn't take care of me anymore so now I am looking for a new home. I am NOT good with other cats. Please don't tell me I am a cat because I won't believe you. I am kid-friendly but have not been around many dogs. If you just want one cat or can only have one pet, pick me! Please come meet me at Petsense in Shallotte or call Sherry at 910-523-1254 or Jill at 910-620-3783. ♥

►My name is Noah. I am an 11-month-old domestic shorthaired boy. I am definitely a Lap Cat and love to get all the back and belly rubs you can give me. I also love interactive playtime together! Once I get to know you, I love to be by your side or in your lap. With strangers, I am quite a scaredy-cat and like to hide under the couch or chair. I have not been around a dog or other cats in a while, but I may be able to adjust. Anyone seriously interested can contact my foster dad, Doug, at 336-580-9809. If you adopt me, I will come with a cat tree that I love to play on and sleep in, as well as my favorite toys and some other supplies of mine. They tell me I am a really special dude and that I once got to save the world. Does your world need saving? ♥

►My name is Tigre! I'm a handsome Plott Hound mix. I have lots of good energy and I'm still learning things at around 8-months of age. I weigh approximately 40 pounds but we’re guessing I’ll reach 60 as an adult. I love to give kisses and cuddles and I think I'm a Lap Dog! I am great with people and playful with dogs, but would do best in a home without cats. If you have a fenced backyard or time to walk me, that would be wonderful. If you would like to meet me, please call Sherry at 910-523-1254 or come see me at Petco on Saturdays from 11:30am to 3:30pm. ♥

◄Family Dog Alert! My name is Kendrick. I am a mature man of 7-years and I weigh 55 pounds. They tell me my beautiful brindle coat makes me stand out in a crowd! I love to give kisses and get belly rubs and will flop over for attention anytime. I love people of all ages and would make a great family dog as I seem to love children. I do just fine with dogs, but would prefer a calmer dog in a home with no cats. As a bonus, I am crate-trained and I know basic commands such as sit and shake. If you would like to meet me, please call Sherry at 910-523-1254 or come see me at Petco on Saturdays from 11:30am to 3:30pm. ♥

◄I'm a loving and loyal companion with a sprinkle of “catitude.” I love treats and having my head scratched. My hobby is swishing my tail. I was a wonderful mother cat

and now that my kittens have been adopted, I'm ready for a wonderful home of my own. My name is Maria and I have shiny, soft, black fur. Please come out and meet me at Pet Supermarket (3908 Oleander Drive in Wilmington) or call Jill at 910-620-3783 for more info. ♥

My name is Brinkley and I’m a small German Shepherd mix who is around 4-years-old. I’m house-trained and love taking long walks when it’s cool out. I get along well with other dogs, cats and kids and I play well with toys and my friends. I’m not a huge fan of loud noises or people that are too pushy. I prefer a quiet home and I’m a pretty low-key dog who just wants a couch to chill on. My past has been hard and it has taken me a long time to trust people so I need patience and treats get you a long way with me. If you will give me time to adjust, I’ll be your loyal girl. I’m current on vaccines and have been spayed. Out of all the dogs here, they tell me I’m the one who really deserves a home. I’ve won all their hearts and I know I can win yours, too. Hi friends!

My name is Molly and I’m a 2-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound. I’m searching for a loving family who enjoys playtime and taking walks, but who also enjoys relaxing together for cuddles and closeness. I do so love to sit beside you while you scratch my ears! I’m a sweet and friendly girl

who, like all young pups, could benefit from basic training. I am spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’ll be a great companion to some lucky person or family, so please come meet me at Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue (SOAR). Got questions? Call 910-457-6340.

I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge.

Hi there! I’m a very sweet Orange Tabby boy named Ludwig. You may remember me from past issues. I had found a home, but my pet parent developed a medical condition that prevented her from continuing to care for me. So, which one of you reading this will adopt me and take me back in to the home environment I so love? I’m a fun and feisty guy who will do well in a single cat household with adults only. I enjoy plenty of play time and am one of the most handsome cats around, if I do say so myself. Call 910-256-2624 or send an email to carewilmington@yahoo.com and let’s plan a day and time to get together!

I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (CARE).

My name is Hogan. I am 4-years-old and weigh 60 pounds. I am good with other dogs and I don't pay much attention to cats. I came from a rural shelter where I was very thin, heartworm positive and needed a miracle. I am now healthy, up to date on vaccines and house-trained.

I also went to a boot camp for 8-weeks where I learned many commands. I am a big old goofball with long legs and with encouragement to show off my skills, I know the commands: sit, down, place, and come. However, I occasionally have selective hearing. So, I am looking for a home that will continue to reinforce the training I received. I need a home with no young children and a strong leader. I would love a home with a fenced yard and other dogs to play with. If you are interested and would like more info, please fill out an application at www.rescueconnectnc.com. You may also call RescueConnect at 910-352-5150 or 910-302-7290.

I am sponsored in honor of Artie and Shirley Singleton, who have given their sweet adopted pup Bunny the best life.

◄I’m Vegas, an 11-month-old Husky mix boy with the most gorgeous eyes you have ever seen. I’m still very much a puppy so basic training would help so much and it would be a great bonding experience for you and I, too! I love everyone and am up to date on vaccines, neutered and current on flea and heartworm prevention. I’d love a home with a fenced-in yard and folks who adore me! Let’s meet!

◄I’m Doja, a very pretty, sweet and petite young girl who just loves to be petted. I’m looking for a home where I can be the only fur-baby and get all the lap time! I am spayed, up to date on vaccines and litterboxtrained. I am FIV positive but I have a good long life ahead of me and I would love for you to be a part of it! Come on over and get to know me. I am precious! ♥

◄I’m the goofiest goober around and that’s my name too, Goober! I’m a Boxer/ Dogue de Bordeaux mix with a sweet face and great personality. At 2-years-old and 55 pounds, I’m looking for a home with folks who will help me reach my fullest potential through training. You see, I love people so much but I’m a strong boy who jumps and I mean no harm. I’m good with kids but prefer to be the only dog in the home. If you want a loving boy and will work on some training with me, come over and let’s get acquainted! ♥

◄I’m Max, an almost 2-year-old Akita boy. I am just the friendliest fellow who loves cuddles and all the people I meet. I am good on a leash and appear to be house-trained. I am neutered, up to date on vaccines and current on heartworm and flea prevention. If you have experience with the Akita breed, come on out to the shelter and get to know me! I’m a fabulous find. ♥

The shelter is currently open Monday through Friday from 10am to 2pm and closed on Saturday and Sunday.

If you have questions, please call 910-763-6692.

►My name is Benz and I’m a happy, fun-loving boy who likes other dogs and cats! At just 13-months of age, I’m a mixed-breed puppy with various Terriers in my lineage. I weigh about 40 pounds and likely won’t get much bigger. I’m great with children and simply want to receive love and attention - I’m just a happy boy! Let’s get to know one another soon. ♥

◄Hi there, my name is Ariel!

I’m a 1-year-old Pit mix, about 40 pounds, and all I want is a family to call my own. I am very treat motivated and eager to learn. Hi there! My name is Angel and I’m one of six little kittens who were brought to Animal Control. The kind folks at Cat Adoption Team just couldn’t bear for us to stay there, so now we’re in foster homes waiting for loving families. All but one of us are Tabby and white, just like me. I am friendly and fun, and I love to run and play so I’ll need a fenced-in yard. I weigh about 55 pounds and am spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and current on flea and heartworm prevention. I know basic commands and I like most dogs, so if you already have a canine family member, bring them along for a meet and greet. You’ll find me at the New Hanover Humane Society, and adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 10am to 2pm. You can also call 910-763-6692 with any questions. Local Dog Rescue and Prison Training Program Celebrates 15-Years of Success!

Monty’s Home started its Pawsitive Partners Prison Program with its first group of five dogs in September of 2008. The dogs were named after the first five letters of the alphabet: Amos, Beauty, Cheyenne, Delta and Ellie. These five dogs were the pioneer group of a long succession of shelter dogs taking the road to a forever home after a 7-week training program in local prisons.

The program has a 100% adoption rate of its graduates and is 100% volunteer. Support of its rescue efforts is solely from fundraising and private donations. Monty’s Home recently opened the Animal Lovers Thrift Shop in Burgaw, which has been another successful source of income for the program due to its unique inventory of animal related items and supplies.

The Deep Sea Dogs are the 63rd group entering Pender Correctional Institution in Burgaw and will be graduating early October looking for homes. For more information, please visit their website: www.montyshome.org.

My name is Texas and I am a chunky lowrider! I am a really smart girl and even though I’m 7-years-old, I still have a lot of energy. I am super-sweet and do get along with most dogs. I’m looking for a home without cats, chickens or young children. I know sit, stay and wait, and I’m house-trained. I love going on walks and I love to give kisses! A home with a fenced yard where I can run and play would be ideal for me. I have my bags packed and I am waiting and ready for my forever family! If you’d like more info, fill out an application at www.rescueconnectnc.com or call RescueConnect at 910-352-5150 or 910-302-7290.

I am sponsored by Cape Fear Spay/Neuter Clinic.

My name is Copper, and I’m a bit like the grumpy but loveable Oscar Madison of “The Odd Couple.” I’m a sweet, older guy who is calm and submissive around other dogs, but I get a little irritated if someone bothers me while I’m sleeping. I’m a 15-year-old boy and came to CBHR with fellow Basset Lily. We were together a long time, but she unexpectedly crossed the Rainbow Bridge in late February 2022. So now I’m alone. As a mature dude, I find change a little difficult and need time to feel comfortable in a new situation - but I am not aggressive. I am showing a lot of improvement and I’m well-mannered and affectionate. It’s best to approach me slowly if you want to pet me, but I really do like those rubs. I get along with my foster family’s young grandchildren, but as with most dogs, I should be watched around children. I like to sleep on my dog bed and my mobility is pretty good for an older guy. I also like to play, I have a good appetite, and I don’t jump on the furniture because I’m a low-rider dog and prefer the floor. I know I’m no puppy, but I still have a lot of love left to give. To adopt me or another Basset, call Carolina Basset Hound Rescue at 888-909-2387 or visit www.cbhr.com.

I am sponsored by Greenwood Pet Camp in loving memory of Houdini.

◄My name is Norman and I came to Fresh Start Rescue when my owner went overseas for work. I am approximately 2-years-old and love my frozen/thawed mice but I don't always love being handled. I can be a bit feisty at times. ♥

►Hello,my friends call me Calypso and I’m a male Crested Gecko who is about 6-years-old. I can be rather picky with my food and I do have MBD in my spine and tail. I do not love to be handled but that may change with patience. ♥

►Hi Snake Lovers! My name is Eugene and I came in as a female Ball Python but Fresh Start believes I may in fact be male. I’m about 2-years-old. I handle well and I’m currently eating frozen/ thawed chicks. ♥

◄Hey, I’m Greesha, a male Russian Tortoise. I am about 9-years-old, I’m active and I love my food. Russian Tortoises are amazing escape artists so I must have a super secure outdoor space. I don’t do well with other tortoises and would prefer to be king of my own space. ♥

▲I’m a baby Bearded Dragon who is super tiny and unsexed. I was brought in by the pet store because I was injured. My tail was broken but it’s all healed now. My tail will be a little shorter than normal but it may not be noticeable when I get a little bigger. I love my bugs and I’m growing fast! ♥

◄I’m Tony, a male Bearded Dragon who was found running wild in Brunswick County. I was pretty big and have a gorgeous red color. I hate all other animals and will black beard at them. I am usually tolerant of handling and just need a place I can settle in and get more comfortable. I eat well and enjoy salad and insects. ♥

►My name is Marmalade and I’m more of a spicy jalapeno jelly! I do have MBD deformities in my spine and legs but I get around with no issues. If I don't want to be held, I will open my mouth and get nippy. I am about 1½-years-old and need an experienced parent. ♥

◄My name is Orion and I came in with little to no info. I was abandoned in a home along with some other animals. I’m not sexed, I’m a little shy but handle well, and I’m happily eating frozen small rats. ♥
