My sister, Aster, also ingested the poison; she was the sickest of all. We were given blood transfusions and medications and now we’re feeling so much better! I also went to a boot camp for 8-weeks where I learned many commands. I am a big old goofball with long legs and with encouragement to show off my skills, I know the commands: sit, down, place, and come. However, I occasionally have selective hearing. Paws Place Dog Rescue Hosts Its Most Successful Fundraising Event Ever!

Paws Place Dog Rescue held its 10th Annual Golf Tournament on September 25th at Compass Pointe Golf Club, Leland, NC. Sponsored by nCino, the annual event helps raise muchneeded funds necessary to operate the non-profit dog rescue.

More than 112 golfers participated in this year’s event and raised more than $98,000 through entry fees, sponsorships, raffle ticket sales, silent auction sales and special donations, making it Paws Place’s most successful fundraising event ever.

The sponsors for the event included nCino, Blue Surf Cafe, ECVR, Hendrick Toyota, Inza Walston, PMG Carolinas LLC, Sola Spa and Salon, Jeff Hovis Intracoastal Realty, Family Dog Naturals, Pathfinder Wealth Consulting, Hannah and Stephanie Holt, Leland Veterinary Hospital, Woofies of Leland, Coastal Carrier, Morgan Stanley, Finpoint Insurance and Paradox Computer Systems.

Paws Place received a few special donations that day including a gift from the estate of William (Bingo) Bryan Jr, which presented Paws Place with a check for $50,000. The donation from the estate was given in honor of Virginia and Alexander McEachern Trask. Paws Place thanks Fuss Law Firm, executor of the estate, for choosing the shelter as a recipient of this donation. Paws Place was recommended to the estate by Gordie Garrison, who along with his late wife, Stephanie, believes that Paws Place makes life better for all dogs who come through their doors. Beverly Memory, Gordie Garrison, and Graham Farmer presented the check to Lee VanOrmer (Board President) and Hannah Holt (Golf Chairperson) at the golf tournament. Paws Place is most grateful for this generous gift.

FURR STILL NEEDS HELPERS: It’s Playtime at FURR’s Kitty Happy Hour Every afternoon from 2pm to 4pm (flexible), come enjoy some playtime with the kitties at Feline Urgent Rescue and Rehab (FURR) at its Porters Neck location. Just a few hours once or twice a week will help newly rescued felines see life differently. Helping them learn to trust, love and get ready for adoption not only mends their hearts but yours, too! Volunteers must be 18-years or older, have a car, love cats, be reference checked and dependable! Pender County Humane Society’s Pet Food Pantry can help!

The Pet Food Pantry has both dog and cat food available FREE of charge. Anyone in need of food will be asked to fill out a brief form and show proof of income or proof of government assistance. The money raised at the Golf Tournament will provide medicine, medical care, food, and shelter for current and future dogs. I love to soak in my water. I will eat insects from tongs or out of a bowl but I usually do not hunt for them. I get around just fine and can be very shy at first. ♥ ◄I’m Greesha, a male Russian Tortoise. I am about 9-years-old, I’m active and I love my food.

Russian Tortoises are amazing escape artists so I must have a super secure outdoor space. I don’t do well with other tortoises and would prefer to be king of my own space. ♥ ►I’m a little Bearded Dragon who came to Fresh Start Rescue from animal control in Onslow County. I was found running around in someone's yard! During my quarantine, I laid a ton of eggs. I have since started putting weight back on and I’m doing well. I can be a little spicy but since I arrived with no previous history, everyone here is hoping I’ll relax and calm down in a new home. I would not be ideal for a home with children. ♥ ◄Hi, I’m Cricket and I’m a 2-year-old Leopard Gecko who came to Fresh Start when my owner went overseas. I have been very well taken care of and handle well. I’m always up for a meal of any kind of insect. ♥
